So, was playing some gold games last night. Weapon was an Isharay II with a barrell III. Playing off host so missing headshots is to be expected. However I noticed the following three cases (in all three cases I am targeting a sharpshooter who is standing absolutely still while lining up his shot, absolutely no way I would miss the shot):
1) I only shield gate him. This is exactly what a body shot would do. So off-host headshot problem presumably. Next. This is maybe 40%.
2) I get through his shield gate and knock him to like 30% health. So, I must have a headshot multiplier here somehow. Again, may 40%.
3) Then there is the remaining 20%... Now I just straight up one-shot him. Happened sufficient number of times that I am confident it wasn't someone else shooting him, and I also got full points for him.
Anyone else having similar experience? Are there several "levels" of headshots? Or am I just seeing things here?

Are the shields of some of the targets being worn out first or all are fresh headshot kills? Something I notice so far is that you absolutely get nothing, not even assist score, by help bringing down a target's shield and the other guy dealing the full blast to the actual body takes all.

These were all fresh shots on 100% shields and 100% health.

Yeah, off-host is so random.
With the sniper damage modifier yesterday on the APEX Mission, my Black Widow 1 could headshot anything that wasn't a Berserker or Hydra if RNGsus was with me.
It does seem like movement will lower the off-host chance of scoring the right sort of headshot though.

I've not been able to do something I would consider consistant (Since I'm more a DAKKA DAKKA type of guy), so please take it with a ton of salt. I play on PC, so this might be hard to replicate on consoles with controllers, but the basic mook raider, if you shoot him in the upper left part of his skull, just a little past his eye, it will kill him - but if you shoot him right in the face, it will not always do the one-shot kill. It's the same with sharpshooters, Pariahs, agents and anarcists.

Weak point hits not registering as weak point hits off host is a pretty well-known issue. Sometimes the proper hitmarker is missing, sometimes the hitmarker and the added damage is missing. Hopefully they know how to fix it.

It's the same with sharpshooters, Pariahs, agents and anarcists. I tend to believe that this is just the classic case of sweet spot detection not working as intended off-host. Try again and host a game yourself. You'll be surprised how the entire head of the Krogan Berserker becomes a giant bulls eye for critical hits, similar to that 'eye' on the Observer. Playing off-host barely half of the shots you hitting the same spots will count as a critical.

Were you different distances from the target? IIRC MEAMP introduced a formula for sniper damage that depends on distance.

I mostly only play bronze because I die so often to lag problems that its not funny but I have noticed that the lanat and ishray are good for one shotting most things and randomly they do minor damage when off host most noticeably when your trying to quick scope, in fact the lanat does decent damage to a lot of stuff even with a near miss...
the absolute worst thing for me though is how off host all the mooks side step when your shooting at them as if theres a 3 second delay between the trifgger pbeing pressed and the bullet arriving so they can see it comeing despite beign less than 100m away (because no map is actually that big)
also the sr tends to do max damage at distance or point blank but inbetween its often only doing half or less, anything from 1m to 40m seems to be the weak zone

At least in SP there's actual bullet drop on long distance shots as well. There's a small chance that mechanic is somehow producing strange effects with the netcode. Not saying that's likely, but... anything can go wrong.
