I've been looking at all the recommendations for single player loadouts and not one mentions the Hornet and that bamboozles me. ROF 950, Damage ≈> 100, fires burst 3 rounds so each pull of trigger => 300 damage, accuracy with scope ≈ 100. Admittedly I'm only playing on normal difficulty, but for example it annihilates a Destroyer fairly rapidly. Yes you do have to mash the left mouse button to see its potential. I've tried numerous recommendations for AR/Pistols and nothing I've tried seems to equal or surpass the Hornet.
I use it in conjunction with the Black Widow for distance and the Dhan (quick reload skill) with 25% shield restore as my get out of jail free.

I actually recommended the Hornet once or twice. It was my main gun on my Hardcore playthough. It's accurate, even when blind-firing over cover, and hits really hard for a submachinegun. Combined with a vintage heatsink and the turbocharge skill you can dispense death very precisely. On Hardcore, you can stand up to a kett heavy without cover and reliably kill him before he kills you as long as you keep going for the head.
I probably wouldn't have tried it if I hadn't found one randomly as soon as I got to the Nexus. Tried it, loved it, stuck with it.

Thank you so much for pointing me to the Hornet. I never would have touched it if not for your post. It might be either that I find the design a bit bulky or the fakt that it's "Cerberus" - or both - so I never used it. What a mistake, that beast rocks!

Hornet SMG, I have to try this out, I never touched it since it was a Cerberus weapon, but I have to now. I normally would go
with asault rifles, the one getting the most used is my tried and true N7 Valkyrie (using a Carnifex for my trusty backup pistol).

A Hornet VII with VHS, 3 +3 Damage augmentations (kinetic coil? I think) best barrel mod and best magazine mod you have is a beast of a gun. Damage (with my passives) of something like 115 per shot, can do 345 per trigger pull, and you can get those bursts off faster than a Sandstorm AR that does a third less damage per trigger pull.
As you rank up the Hornet, it gets VERY accurate too, mine has an accuracy of 101 without a scope. From around longish mid-range and closer, it's damn near laser accurate, easy to aim and control, and reliably hits weak spots very nicely.
My ONLY complaint with it is it seems to lack a bit of punch when dealing with the heavy, armor-only enemies like Fiends. Even then, it's not hard to beat them, just takes a bit more time than I'd like.

Yeah, the Hornet is a beast of a gun and one of my favorite weapons in the game, it's accurate, light, has great burst and DPS and reloads in a blink, it's an assault rifle in hiding. I put a video of a Hornet-only run againt the Eladeen Architect in Insanity the other day, easiest thing in the world:

Hornet was my go-to gun during the OT. Nice to see it still getting love in Andromeda. An upgraded Hornet with barrel, damage augs, and Turbocharge is basically a lighter assault rifle.

But I've figured out an alternate build I'm testing for the Fiends and stuff. Cryo Beam, Invasion and either Tactical Cloak (for dodging and evading purposes, as well as +Weapon Damage) or Turbocharge for pure damage boost. Cryo has the ability to be evolved for -100 Armor defense, and Invasion has debuffs as well. So far, it's been pretty good, and adding Incendiary ammo to the mix won't hurt none either!

Great gun. Cass is running it and a Carnifex. Still a bit of a bullet hose but it does help. Accurate. Powerful. Light for powers.

Yeah, it's my sidearm for close encounters. Boring but tried-and-true Avenger with scope for long range. Both with VHS.
