On my 4th playthrough; and looking for some advice on melting baddies on insanity.
Always been my favorite to play Biotic singularity/shockwave/lance. MEA is no different, the kit in biotics creates tons of combos with low cooldowns. The damage, on the other hand, is less desirable. The echoes provide pretty explosions and minimal damage.
I am level ~73 and have plenty of research available/respec.
What weapons, skills, etc., will help me kill faster? I want those ascendants orbs to die faster. (I loathe those things)
Things I don't want to do - play with a black widow/Ishray and use multiple ^% damage effects, not fun IMHO.

Cobra RPG, FTW. With any other weapon the bosses/heavies just take too long to kill on insanity.
Otherwise, I use a Sandstorm for mooks. Pirahna for close work. Valiant for when the Sandstorm won't cut it. I try to go for headshots mostly. My skills are Energy Drain, to restore my shields and detonate combos, Turbocharge, Tactical Cloak. I fire my skills off 1, 2, 3, and shoot for 2 seconds all done by a macro. I usually use incendiary ammo to prime for fire combo.

Vanguard 6 Charge with 75% cooldown Nova (not the shield consuming one) Singularity or Energy drain Dhan plus shield restore mod Fusion mod adrenaline or 50% power recharge Shotgun max damage and reload Combat fitness with melee synergies Biotic passive with melee synergies Asari sword N7 armour with max shield and combo mods
Vs. Mooks: Charge Nova Melee Dhan repeat.
Ascendant: clear all mooks, cover close by, then take down the orb while Drack and Cora distract him, when shield drops, singularity then charge Nova Dhan headshot.

Piranha shotgun with bio converter and seeker plasma system augmentations.
For powers, use charge, cloak and turbocharge. Turbocharge increases rate of fire and weapon damage
I used the deadeye armor for added weapon damage and headshot damage. I used kinetic coil augmentation for the chest to increase damage resistance. For helmet, legs and arms I used what would increase my shields and weapon damage.
For melee weapon I used kett Varkash. Not only does it have melee damage, but burn damage as well. Plus it has 5 augmentations slots which I filled up with kinetic coil to give me an extra 15% weapon damage for the shotgun
For squadmates, I used Cora and Drack

Piranha shotgun with bio converter and seeker plasma system augmentations. Thank you, everyone. Energy drain seems to be a go-to . This shotgun also makes headlines quite a bit, going to make my IX+ those Augments.

Tactical Cloak. Doesn't matter what weapon you use, although I hear that crafting a Revenant with the electric beam mod is pretty amusing.

@op I'm playing with your setup and only use 2 pistols and one SMG as backup. I have no problems whatsoever, even though my companions go down pretty quickly. I'm practically soloing most of the time. Just use cover and keep yourself on your toes. Do not stop moving and pick them off one by one. Start with the weakest enemies to quickly reduce incoming damage by taking out unshielded grunts.

It's not as if Insanity is actually hard, especially on NG+ It's not a difficulty issue; just want to cut down the time per fight. They can be tedious; especially ascendants. Ok, so faster recharge on Charge gives you as many huge AoE biotic explosions as you could want and infinite shields. I'm not sure the other evolution is quicker at clearing mooks. Ascendants you won't be using Charge much anyway, so the discussion about which rank 6 Charge evolution to use is moot. On the plus side for you, I believe the latest patch altered Insanity so mobs do more damage but die quicker.

Piranha shotgun with bio converter and seeker plasma system augmentations. Thank you, everyone. Energy drain seems to be a go-to . This shotgun also makes headlines quite a bit, going to make my IX+ those Augments. The Piranha is popular because it is the only full auto shotgun. With the bioconverter augment there is no reload animation. So it will fire continuously as long as you hold the mouse down. With the seeking plasma augment most or all of the pellets will hit out to medium range (unless they are blocked by cover or a hard object). These effects _REALLY_ add up under the influence of turbocharge.
