Before launch it seemed like it should be the other way around. Three power limitation in single player, get players to experience the combat there and hopefully hook them into Multiplayer where they will be more likely to spend more money on that store.
But now I'm finding it's the total opposite.
I came into MEA expecting nothing from singleplayer after the previous two Mass Effect games and was all intent on enjoying multiplayer, maybe play SP if it turned out to be decent.
So for the first two weeks since launch I've played nothing but MP. Seemed like a good idea given how SP was received with all the issues. But a few things turned me off - not the least of which being the randomness of progression - relying on pure luck rather than choice to build out characters and equipment, especially when it comes to UR characters and the skillpoint limitations.
So being fed up with not being able to play exactly the powers and kits I'd prefer I decided to try out SP a week ago. Damm I'm glad I did. Now there is total freedom in enjoying all of the game's combat to its fullest. I can choose exactly what powers I want to use together, how I want to develop gear and so on. Not to mention access to four sets of customisable "kits" that I can design and not have Bioware decide for me which powers should be used together as it is with MP kits.
The only downsides of SP are: - no one else to share the enjoyment of combat with - can't immediately jump straight into combat as in a MP match
Aside from that, everything else is better in SP. Even the second point cam be got around by loading up a save at a suitable point on a planet or combat situation. So it's only really being by yourself that is the main difference.
Yes there are a few powers missing such as Avenger Strike and Stealth Grid but the freedom in SP outweighs the loss of a couple of unique powers.
Two things would pull me back to MP - direct purchases in the store (not rng gambling boxes) and more new/unique powers with new kits in DLC. Otherwise I see no reason to play MP as it is severely limited compared with SP.
I just felt that was interesting given that surely EA intended players to be encouraged to play MP by playing SP so they would spend more money.

I though you were going to metion pathfinder rewards.
Played single player on PC playing multiplayer on PS4 (75% of the unlocks according to the app) and I'm sitting on an ungodly mountain of pathfinder lootboxes. It's making me angsty to play the campaign on PS4 just to see all that sweet loot and try out weapon augmentation / experimentation with it.

Edit (I misunderstood) Heh, the insane amount of boxes you get from Strike Teams is great (I've built up a lot having sent them multiple times a day since launch). But yeah having access to all that stuff is cool for singleplayer.

I wish they gave you a choice between pathfinder rewards missions and expert or advanced packs. The andromeda points are pretty worthless without begin able to buy packs with them.

I hate to tell you but any aug that changes the way your guns fire will ruin your damage. They are either bugged or just pointless. I mean you can experiment with these and see for yourself but the electricity aug, laser aug, grenade aug, and sticky grenade aug will ruin your gun. Seeking plasma and plasma charge one will work just fine and seeking plasma with bioconverter on the Dhan is my favorite weapon in SP....also researching bioconverter is bugged so you ned to research that and then "shield converter" to actually get the bioconverter aug.

Now that I've had a chance to sample most of these guns I definitely can see the appeal in going back and playing around with them in SP. So plasma augs are okay on Milky Way weapons? Is there no way to really buff the damage of weaker Remnant weapons like the shadow? I'd quite like to try recreating the Acolyte and turn the Avenger into a Lancer.

The seeking plasma aug makes your bullets like the "thokin". Small plasma projectiles that have light tracking and travel time. This is great for things like the dhan or pirahna shotguns that suffer from range. I would say if you wanted to recreate the acolyte you're going to have to use the explosive plasma aug on something like the isharay that has high damage. It changes the damage type to physical though so no more shield damage.
