I'm trying to get a friend into the Mass Effect franchise because she's super into the idea of exploring all the aliens and roleplaying ... but she doesn't usually play video games and doesn't want to spend most of her time killing those same aliens she wants to be friends with. So I was wondering if there are any mods for the original trilogy that cut out the combat sections altogether, or at least make them skippable. Failing that, can anyone recommend a good lets play with a mostly paragon femShep who bangs a lot of aliens?

I have not seen all the mods out there, so I guess it is possible there is one. But despite that I personally doubt it.

I highly doubt it is possible. I've modded the combat system of the 3rd game, it would take a vast amount of work to remove the fighting from the 3rd game. And that's the easiest one to edit.
I'd suggest putting it on the easiest mode possible and using system codes to get the best gear, maximum skill points, etc. That way your friend can just plough through the combat bits as easily as them not being present at all.

Okay, so it sounds like the let's play route is the more viable option. Any recommendations on that front?

Well...but, with a Let's Play, she doesn't actually get to explore or roleplay. Why not have her at least try playing on the lowest difficulty? There will be a learning curve, but once she gets that down, the lowest difficulty level is stupidly easy for most fights. Plus, as was suggested, you could help her out with some console commands to make it even easier. At worst, she'll decide it's still too much shooting for her, and she'll end up watching a Let's Play after all. At best, you'll have another Mass Effect convert

There's no way my friend would make it past Eden Prime, and she'd protest the entire time about being forced to shoot the "cool robot people."

Your best bet is to set it to the easiest difficulty and use console commands ( masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/PC_Tweaks#In-Game_Console ) to get absurdly high powered weapons and armour, as well as enough skill points to upgrade every stat to maximum. That's what I did for my dad, and he has to look at the button he is pressing on the controller to make sure he is pressing the right one. He's almost at virmire now, with a little guidance from me when he needed it. He definitely struggles, but he's made it.

Seriously. She's better off playing The Sims.

There's something that's essentially a "god mod" out there. Not for ME1, which if you use console commands and lowest setting, makes you practically invincible anyway. But in ME2 onward there's some guy called "mrantifun" who makes trainers where you're virtually invincible. Maybe that's what your friend needs.

For ME1 you can enable the console and give Shep the super gun and super armor. The gun does like 25-45k damage depening on the console options, and similarly the super armor has 8-12k shield hp (also depending on console options used). This you can single shot every enemy and it would be very difficult if not impossible to die. The only issue I can think of is the Mako as it would be vulnerable and the player would have to leave it to single shot the enemies and then get in it again. Theere is also a bioengine.ini tweak to fastforward time which comes in handy during those long mako drives or long citadel walks.

Oh, for sure. That super gun can take out a Geth Colossus in one shot, at least on casual mode. It takes more work if you increase the difficulty.
