An ungodly amount of them. Scattered on every planet. Feels more of a headache that I'd rather not pursue if I don't have to.
Has anyone collected them all? <<No spoilers please>>>

I'd say yes. The memories you access are actually interesting, and give you greater insight into the Alec Ryder character, and you have a lot of information from his encrypted logs.

Yup. Plus, there really aren't that many of them, maybe 2-3 per planet.

I think there are worth it. Any new info I can learn about Alec Ryder and the Initiative is
welcome. (but only really for one playthrough, just so you can see what you may of missed).

Yes it is absolutely worth it. To be honest it should've been part of the Main quest.

It is, but I can't believe they swept something so important up into something so padded and nonsensical. How and why does the triggers trigger where they trigger? What does some random hill on Eos have to do with any memory you unlock? Why are the memories even scattered throughout Andromeda when all the memories are from before Andromeda? It's completely arbitrary.

The payoff is in this case, but not the process of getting there. It would have been better to just weave the memory triggers into the main story, with progression through it automatically unlocking memories.

They could've... you know, scattered some sort of mementos that relate to Alec around on the planets so when you find them it triggers a memory from the sight and not some glowy orb that's there for whatever reason.

Yes it is absolutely worth it. To be honest it should've been part of the Main quest. Exactly! It really didn't make any sense to me that these memory triggers would be at various random places across multiple planets. Like, why? I know SAM said the memories aren't really tied to any specific location and that they're just unlocked as Ryder progresses as a Pathfinder, but wouldn't it make more sense that Ryder's progression through the main story signifying how far he/she has progressed as a Pathfinder? Or heck, have them unlock as Ryder establishes more outposts and increases the viability of planets. It just doesn't really make any sense to me the way Bioware handled this batch of quests.

I feel like that is this game in a nutshell. "Do this deceptively bland fetch quest for a totally worthwhile reward". It's the same with how that Voeld quest thing suddenly took me to one of the most memorable set-pieces in the game.

One of the things that ME: A does well is that it at least gives you an insight to your father and the Initiative and not just kill and forget him in other games like the human noble's Orgin story in Dragon Age.

This. Some of the best stuff in the game comes out of that fetch quest. I feel like that is this game in a nutshell. "Do this deceptively bland fetch quest for a totally worthwhile reward". It's the same with how that Voeld quest thing suddenly took me to one of the most memorable set-pieces in the game. Not finished with the game yet, but I agree. The content is there, they just need to condense what's in between. A game like this needs more procedural stuff; more enemy spawns in places that aren't permanent fixtures, randomly generated fixtures that are only present for that specific playthrough/instance --easily explainable considering that the fact majority of stuff is prefab or Kett, which can be blown up by APEX in lore--and use those mechanics to spice up fetch quests. RPGs in general need to do this, though. They need to take a page out of GTA and Saints Row when it comes to the unpredictability of roaming around open spaces. It'd go a long way.

I'll go out on a limb and say ME:A is my favorite Mass Effect game so far. It is, however, not without its flaws. Memory trigger fetch quest was fairly nonsensical in implementation, but the payoff is very nice. I agree that this should have been tied to other milestones in the game. Set up an outpost, unlock a memory. Reach a viability threshold, unlock a log entry. I would also have really liked a separate message that was tied to beating the critical path, not unlike the 100% viability on all 5 planets after the main story was complete.
I really liked the framework Bioware laid down for ME:A, it just needs some tightening. Remove some of the (quite well done, tbh) "task" stuff and a bit more into the character arcs and main story. If that's what MEA2 looks like, I'll be a happy dudebro.
