Yes they are worth it.
I thought the same thing at first. But collecting all of them wasn't that bad, since there aren't that many overall. I think only 2-3 per planet and there was only 1 I had trouble finding with the nomad. Most were easy to navigate to while on the way to other side quests/locations.

There aren't that many to collect. I consider the triggers a cakewalk compared to collectibles in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Incredible. You guys weren't kidding. This is one of the best story arcs in the whole game so far....
See, this is the magic that I remember from previous ME titles, the magic that Bioware is known for in their storytelling. Why can't the rest of the game be this engaging?

It starts as a fetch quest with the promise of some story tidbits.
Ends up as one of the best side plots of the game.
