So... the original trilogy might conjure up rosy images in our memory. But I'm curious if our nostalgic memories of the trilogy are as timeless as they seem.
Has anyone actually gone back to play the trilogy again, while ME:A is still fresh in our minds? If so, does the trilogy still live up to the impression we remember it left on us? Is it still a masterpiece of story-telling, wonder, and action, compared to the longer and more drawn-out ME:A? (graphic differences aside...I'm more interested in the overall story).
Thoughts?

I just started a new ME1 run. MEA put me in the mood for some good Mass Effect and while I wait to see how the CC updates turn out figured I'd return to the golden oldies. Having a blast with it. Sure the animations and cover mechanics are bad, femShep's arms look like they would snap like twigs if she ever actually fired a gun, and her giraffe neck is horrifying at times, but I still love it. The setting, the music, how much fun it is to hate Saren. Still the best game in the series.

I'm doing a full series run and while I love the trilogy it's not without issues. Especially ME1.

Yes, and it only served to reinforce the many flaws that are in ME:A by comparison. There are issues in the trilogy, but just the general feel for the story and production values in each game feel like they are miles ahead of where ME:A should have been.

I played the OT last month before I played ME:A. I'll play ME:1 when I'm done, then maybe a couple of the DLC from ME:2, and the Citadel or something from ME:3 while I'm still in the ME mood. Then maybe when the patches and some DLC are out I may go back and play ME:A again.

No, but I did a full run within the last year, and am seriously hankering for another one post-ME:A. I've replayed the trilogy countless times, and love it every single time. It never diminishes for me. ME1 is probably the one I struggle with most, chiefly because while I'm not a completionist in the achievement sense, I hate leaving side quests undone. Those side missions involving the MAKO get on my nerves. The trilogy isn't perfect, but it's still my favourite PC and ragtag band of misfits to date. With the exception of Jacob, I love them all to bits. It will be interesting to see how my next run goes - will I be even more nostalgic after ME:A, or notice more flaws...

I've played through ME1 after the first Andromeda run, and currently in beginning of ME2. Past Freedom's Progress, specifically with the new Normandy SR2. And all I got to say to people claiming those of us who dislike Andromeda, but praise the trilogy have rose tinted glasses on... using Shepard's own words, "Here's another saying: "Go to hell!"
The first Mass Effect one is still engaging 10 years down the road. Yeah, graphical fidelity has suffered some, but that's what we have MEUITM mod for. The one single SPECTRE induction scene has more soul than whole of Andromeda.
I know I will replay the trilogy many more times down the road. Andromeda? Probably not.

I no longer have my MET games. Lent them to a friend who is still playing them. I could go for a good trilogy run but I don't even use my 360 anymore. It's a dust collector and I'm on PS4 for this game. I'd do PC but I like my controller for ME series and I don't think it works well (if at all). Also, I think if I did, I would come back feeling less love for MEA. I want to try to maintain what love I have of it right now.

I did a play through of the trilogy early last year, and thought of doing another one but I had to give it up when I realized I had played the games into the ground.

I'd take the MAKO any day over the Nomad. Guns and being able to actually go up inclines and jump jets that actually do something.

Not yet, but I finished the trilogy just before starting ME:A. I start the trilogy, from scratch, every few months, so I will sooner than later. Like many other games, that become a series, there are pro's and con's in every game, but just because they are old games, doesn't mean they aren't still fun

I was halfway through a career on ME3 when I got Andromeda. Just got back on it yesterday after nearly 70 hours of MEA and I keep forgetting to press fucking A to get behind cover.

Yep, I started another ME1 play through right after finishing Andromeda. Still absolutely adore that game. I play it with MEUTIM, so it looks pretty good. The dialogue wheel is kind of the oppositw of Andromeda. In ME:A, Ryder will always express the same opinion, you just get to choose how s/he frames it. In ME1, the choices on the wheel express very different opinions, but the lines Shepard actually says are often written, so that they fit all those choices and the player will just interpret them differently, depending on what they chose. Not sure I like either trick, but I think the ME1 one was probably the harder one to write for.
The one thing I struggle with, coming from ME:A is the Mako. I never minded the Mako before but driving the Nomad just shows you how bad the Mako physics really were.
Other than that, ME1 still rules. Oh and the SR1 is still the coolest looking ship around. The Tempest may have the prettier views but from the outside, the original Normandy is still the best spaceship ever designed.

Yes. I don't think the OT is better or worse than MEA, and to be honest I think that people trying to constantly compare them could well be preventing them from enjoying MEA. Think of it like comparing flavours of ice cream; it might seem like an obvious and normal thing to do, but if you're getting distracted about how chocolate isn't as tangy as strawberry, and isn't such a pretty colour, then there's a chance you're gonna forget to actually enjoy it.

yes but I tend to judge each gam on it's own merits anyway. I know it's likely I'l be spending a lot of time this year playing ME both the trilogy and Andromeda especially as there's plenty of patches and DLC stil to come. The main reason why I've gone back t othe trilogy is because I'm still in an ME mood because I wantto give Bioware a chance to get 1 or 2 patches out before I play again. I do plan on doing another MEA run as soon as I've finished my latest trilogy run maybe even a double run as I'm thinking of doing my first Scott and following it up with my second Sara. But that'll depend on how much stuttering and crashing I end up suffering this time. I know we've had patch 1.05 and that's fixed a lot of the issues it looked like I was suffering from but I haven't tried any combat or situations like that yet just running around the ship talking to people.
But I'm playing the trilogy because I still like playing it. Seeing as I still now and then play games that have PS2 style graphics in them anyway playing older games after playing new ones has never really been a problem for me. In fact it kind of reminds me of how far gaming has come over the years and I find it makes me appreciate the newer good looking games we have now more. Admittedly MEA isn't prefect but then no game ever has been but I will say I'm glad they kept the ME series alive with Andromeda as it's an interesting game with interesting characters. MEA might not be as compelling as the trilogy but I do think it's a good start for moving on from and making potential DLC's and sequels.

I generally agree with you, and I mostly see than separate and each with their own merits. The only time, I have trouble getting around that, is when some dialogue or codex entry that used to work so well in setting up the universe now keeps reminding me how stupid and contrived ME:A's whole setup within the ME universe is. That, I can't really ignore.

I'm currently playing a NG+ of ME3 alongisde MEA and the diferences are in ME3's favor. All the cutscenes in ME3 look handcrafted and dynamic with characters moving about naturally as opposed to the classic lets-just-stand-in-front-of-eachother-and-move-our-mouths-while-looking-into-space cutscenes MEA uses for 80% of the conversations.

I still play it. Granted, I was quite late to the party (started 3 years ago), but I play constantly ever since with only few new games shoved in-between. I have plans for way too many Shepards and I'm excited about it. I'm currently just finishing off Nier Automata, then I'll play Horizon Zero Dawn and then it's definitely back to the trilogy. I want to continue my NG+ of MEA once all the patches are done, but that's the last time I'll play it for a while I think.

Ok. Been watching a playthrough on Youtube of the ME1;
I must say, just watching the first 2 minutes is enough to convince me of its legendary status (as opposed to nostalgia or rosy memories). Just compare the first 2 minutes with the first 2 minutes of ME:A.... there is no comparison! Totally epic and masterful production. It grabs you in like no other....nothing like ME:A.
Wow, maybe the original trilogy is even better than we remember it?
