I am sure they could put it somewhere when they first get on and when they leave boom. It would be past the shields and such and likely do a bit of damage to the ship though it probably would not have destroyed it since it would have had to have been a relatively small size. I am sure they could have figured something out and this would have been very very good in terms of hurting the archon and slowing him down

Because if you would put logic in that mission, the Archon would never leave Ryder and company alone to escape from their trap

Why not use all squadmates? Why not call for strike teams to help? Why didn't the Archon fire at the salarian ship when the alarms sounded on his ship? Why didn't Ryder realize the Archon, after learning he saw his/her memories, would know the location of the Nexus? Why is no one wearing a helmet when outside the kett ship to get on the tempest?

Why does the Salarian team spawn in on the other side of the room behind a crate and start a convo like you know theyre there? Why is Raeka reduced to a standstill NPC during most scenes?
The answers, only lead to more questions.

Why doesn't the Archon already know where the Nexus is? It hasn't moved. Ever it seems. The Salarians know where it is. All the exiles know where it is. Someone would have ratted theNexus out for their life at some point.
And i say it hasn't moved since the human ark 14 months late. Says hey let's go meet up with the Nexus. And there it is. And no they don't scan for it. Just fly off to the rally point.

The whole reason the Archon and Primus disagree is because Primus thinks that the goal is to exalt the angara and newcomers - in which case the solution would be a military assault on their strongholds - and the Archon thinks that the goal is to control the Remnant tech and seize Meridian.
