Personally I think the single player is quite enjoyable. I think the story and dialogue are entertaining enough but maybe my expectations are low. I have a brother who's also a gamer, and every game he's criticizing for the smallest of the smallest of details they get wrong in his eyes. I don't want to be like that, so I can enjoy stuff even despite their flaws.
I keep switching between sp and mp to keep interest high for both.

I've got 5 Gold Cards left to unlock, at which point I'll probably take a break and catch up on some projects I've been neglecting in the meantime.
Maybe it'll be good 6-12 months from now. It needs a lot of work.

Both the SP and MP are fun. The MP definitely needs some tweaking though. Hopefully upcoming patches will smooth things out over time.

Get the Origin Access subscription, it will give you ten hours of gameplay (which you can devide between SP and MP if you wish), that way you can get your own experiences at a very small cost. This. Origin Access also gives you 10% off of all games in the catalog MEA included so if you buy it, the trial pays for itself. If not... it'll set you back $5 at worst. You can always play, uh... Red Alert 2 off the vault, I guess.

If you play SP don't play on insanity - it's got the same problems like MP. It's fun on normal. Maybe on some of the other higher difficulties, too.

The single player is great, just admirably not as "epic" as the previous trilogy.
It's a little more low key, without such a large insurmountable galactic threat and all.
It's still great.

Buying this for full price solely for the MP?
At this stage and time, no.
At the extreme minimum, wait for 50%+ discount deals.

I've been a subscriber on PC ever since it became an option, and during a year it always manages to pay for itself.

I'm finding it to be easier to kill stuff on Insanity at low level compared with Gold in MP, and I've been running around with things like a Carnifex or Sidewinder only. The difficulty is that Ryder is extremely squishy until you're able to start putting points into defensive passives like barrier and combat fitness. Definitely once I get beyond level 80 though I'm planning to gradually reduce it to Hardcore then down to Normal in order to try and balance out what I've read happens with the enemy level scaling.

The way the MP is currently balanced weapon and power wise. Not to mention the devs fucked up philosophy on balance. I would say stay away until they sort things out if they ever do that is.

I've put about 150 hours in it so far (combining SP+MP). It's about 50c an hour if I stopped playing altogether today. It's an okay ratio. I still have hopes for MP. They don't even need to tune down the bosses, just the small guys. And give the weapons and powers more...power. The other issues are pretty much only technical.

It's become a fucking shooter once you move to gold, powers do jack shit there. You must be lone wolfing in pugs. With a team supporting one another the powers let things because ammo primes and every detonator will detonate any primer. Powers smash things with the right team synergy...

A bit longer answer : NOT YET Get it once it`s $24.99 or below. I say get it now so you can enjoy the newfound forum activity while it's still high. And things are always more interesting while a game is still supported and we're all wondering what's around the corner. It's like Christmas, only BioWare is filling out stockings with coal. "Have you been a good boy? Well here's some working as intended coal."
