Good folks, I was wondering if anyone knows just how much, numerically, the progression was slowed down levelling wise? It became a sticky point to me, and I want the number, to be able to stop feeling irrational "what's-the point?" etc. It's just compared to ME3MP it feels like everything is stuck on level 1?

I don't have exact numbers but it's much slower than ME3MP. It will take hours to get a kit from 1 to 20.
The upside is there's pretty much no point to promoting a character, so once it's level 20, you won't have to worry about promoting and re-leveling it up again. If you need to respec, the respec cards are fairly common in packs and fairly cheap (15 mission funds) if you don't get any from packs.

I've played about 40 hours multiplayer, and I pretty much only play bronze and in that time I have:
2 level 20. 1 level 11. 1 level 10. 2 level 9. A lot in the range 5-8.
Most people would have been playing gold/silver for much of that time, so I guess that's one of the worst records you'll see. So I guess the answer is definitely under 20 hours, and probably more than 10 hours, but you'll need one of the better players to give you the lower limit.

I think the XP numbers might be exactly the same for character progression (they certainly kept the old thresholds of 140k and 50k for weapon and power challenges respectively), but the progression is about 5-6 times slower. On average, you're looking at 15-25k XP per player in a gold match vs 75-150k in ME3MP.

So, 5x slower? I guess, I can at least have a consolation that I am not imagining things. (Sigh).

In ME3: One Gold game got you to level 10 from level 1
In MEA: One Gold game gets you about 3-4 levels level 1
The main thing they decreased was the amount of XP from enemies. A hydra will give you about 300 xp whereas in me3 an atlas would give 1000+ xp.

A hydra will give you about 300 xp whereas in me3 an atlas would give 1000+ xp. And that's the main reason you can't speed up things significantly. In ME3 you could easily make 1.000.000 points (well, not easily, but it was possible with a coordinated team) by milking objective waves and pulling 36 missiles on extraction, but i don't see any viable possibilities here besides medals, since the XP for killing is so low. So we are going to stuck at ~100.000 XP per match...

Now if you crack 20K you're probably doing the lion's share of the killing. It's a real slog. I've got: 3 lvl 20s 4 15s 15 lvl 10s 3 kits still locked. I'm about 100 hours in.

It is pretty damn slow. It takes me pretty much a whole day grinding Gold to go from level 1 to 20. I have promoted 5 times already, but I don't see myself doing it often anymore. I have several characters at level 20 and I think I will just keep them that way. I hope they add a Platinum difficult with 2x to 2.5x the XP from Gold. That way promoting, despite grindy, will feel at least more humane.

I managed to get one of my characters to 20 today. Holy crap though it took forever and I'm a little annoyed that now I get to do that with 100 other people.

I've got 13 kits up to 20 with just over 100 hours in, leaving 15 kits to go. I've been leveling a little more quickly now than when I first started, though, so I'm pretty confident I'll have everything to 20 within another 100 hours. Having decent gear and guns helps me take lower level kits up to silver and gold earlier than I used to, as does having a good team of friends to play with, more confident knowledge about the enemies/maps/strategies/etc. It feels pretty grindy and slow at first, and doesn't get much better along the way, but like others have said, once all the kits are at 20, there's not much reason to promote over and over like in ME3MP.

Lately, I've been taking each level 1 kit into a couple bronzes to get to 4 or 5, then a few silvers to get to 9 or so, then gold the rest of the way to 20. Edit: I feel like it also helps me move up early when I take a look at each kit ahead of time, figure out how I'll spec it, and then figure out which points I need to put in first to allow me to safely move up a difficulty level. Like, with the Krogan Mercenary I'm leveling now, at rank X level 1 I had enough points to max Rage with a few extra points left over. That plus good gear and guns made me confident that I could probably jump into Silver right away, though I played it safe and did a couple Bronzes first to get a good handle on the kit. After that I put a few ranks into Fortify for survivabilty, then worked to max Flamethrower for that juicy debuff at rank 6. After that, I worked on getting Flak Cannon to rank 5 for the stagger. And so on. Probably not telling anyone anything they don't already know about ranking up kits but oh well.

I'm not sure but the leveling is really god damn slow. I have played maybe 65-70 MP matches, the majority on Silver and the highest leveled character I have is 9....there are 2 of them. I still have 5-6 of the characters at level 1 cuz I haven't even used them yet since I am focused on getting at least 1 character to level 10.
