I rather disliked the whole idea of the implant and if it was me I'd have welcomed Knight's efforts, but then again there's nothing to suggest that Ryder hadn't chosen it voluntarily. But parallels with the Reapers and Synthesis? Nah.

No. SAM is not reaper tech , is Alec Ryder's tech, and is a way to tell the player to scan this or to go there, is like another tutorial, specific for this game now if somebody has Jaardan or Remnant or Kett tech in te brain that is another story  Are you saying Alec Ryder is a reaper!!?  Not just any reaper--a *human* reaper! Getting back to topic, though, does Ryder turn into a terminator spider (or..Spyder?) robot when his health is brought to zero? I might play this game after all! |

In conclusion. Ryder is Saren. *Sips Ryncol* Well, uh, synthesis also involves physiological augmentations that would put a human above the limits of natural strength, durability, etc. Synthesis as a means to bring balance between synthetics and organics is impossible. Even Superman may not want to till a field all day for the rest of his life. No matter how fast, strong, smart, etc. he is he's going to want someone or something else to do the tedious mundane work. The moment he stops having personal ambitions, likes, dislikes, emotional range and individual quirks he stops being organic. He become a synthetic person himself even if he has organic parts.
Shepard, and by extension the entire galaxy, is Saren in Synthesis ending. Ryder is Master Chief with Cortana... sorta.

I would like SAM to evolve into more than just a glorified tutorial. Maybe with some tough questions posed in the narrative. One of the best scenes is when, SAM stops Ryder's heart, and Lexi freaks out about it. |

I have no problem with the idea of Synthesis on a case-by-case situation. I just don't think it should be forced onto anyone. Alec Ryder chose it for himself so that wasn't a case of force. The Ryder Twins had less choice but had no issue with keeping it intact. That meant they chose to keep it. That's fine for me. It would be interesting to see what would have happened had Cora actually become the new pathfinder. However, it looks like circumstance (Alec's kid dying in front of him) prevented that from happening.
Mind you, this isn't true synthesis. It's along those lines, and certainly leading in that direction, but nevertheless a different thing.
