They seem like a copy from mass effect 1 conpanions
2 human conpanions, a male and a female. One of them being biotic. They are your firsts companions A turian An asari who research alien ruins A krogan A tech expert( they needed something here since there's no quarians here, so we have Jaal)
What do you thing? It's not bad but can't be a coincidence

Jaal is a tech expert? Naaaaah. He's a weird cross between sniper and close-combat specialist.
But he is the mysterious alien with a funny accent from a people that worship family, though.

Well, we can consider the angara more like quarian Lost most of their culture aganst an stronger enemy They usually just take kett weapons and they seem to dismantle things to study it... Sure, they can make small ships and weapons but they seem mostly scavengers like quarians For technology to help them survive and someday retake their worlds

I know Jaal is tech savvy, but it's never treated as a defining characteristic.

Well, they are a mix of the previous ME chars. And, at a certain point in your life (experience), there is nothing truly new. With BG, KOTOR, Jade Empire, ME, DA there is no char that will be new to us, we will see similarities everywhere. The question is: how do they fit the story. And as it stand now, except maybe for Jaal, it seems noone is realy involved and necessary. We could do everything without them, just fine. Compare this to ME... we need Liara to make sense of the vision and to help with prothean, we need Garus to find Tali, we need Tali to convict Saren... Wrex thinkls Saren have a genophate cure and wants to find out, Ashley want revenge because "Saren" killed her platoon.... and we have Kaidan... the random default guy . ME2 had more into your squad... first we go out to hire a good crew to help us fight the "enigmatic" collectors, but we grow stronger together (loyalty) missions and at the end (suicide mission) are a team. MEA feels more like ME3... we have a crew and we take them along for the ride.

Jaal said the Quarians reminded him of his people. Jaal also says that Asari remind him of the Kett, but we all know that the Kett = Collectors / Borg.

Well yeah, and some of them do follow the usual team trope in pretty much everything, ie Drack = big man, Peebee = geek, Jaal = for exposition/ethics and exploring human idiosyncrasies. However I'd argue Cora, Liam and Vetra are far less stereotypical than is usual for members of any team, and in this way they are in some ways more "normal"/plausible. Kind of exactly the same as Ashley, Kaidan and Garrus - but I'm cool with that.

That he says this, or that they are basically the Collectors / Borg? The first is a fact, the second is an opinion. The Borg/Collector thing. The Archon wasn't even following orders and wanted everyone to have his "perfect" DNA who he found worthy. The Kett Senate's reasons for turning everyone to their side makes me think they are creating an army because the Jardaan will likely return. Theory of course, but I feel there's more to the Kett than what we learned in MEA.

Well, devil's in the details, but the fact that their society is basically built upon the assimilation of other races, that kinda makes them borg-like. They're only missing the collective consciousness.

I just had a thought about the squad. They are actualy not that bad, ME was not all that shiny about the crew, lets take Garrus... he was not one of the strongest characters in gaming history in/after ME, it took ME2 to make him one. The problem with MEA squad is, in my opinion, the lack of their involvment in the story. In ME1/2/3 your squadmates had always something to say when you were talking and making decisions, add the cutscenes to that. MEA... there is (almost) nothing, Ryder does the talking alone and there are just a few cutscenes were the crew is involved, besides that, some have just little to say when walking around, their lines are added offscreen and are more related to their personal story then the main story.

I just wish we had the ability to pick our own crew. Give us a good 9 or 10 different characters we can pick to fill the 6 person squad.
At the end of Peebee's loyalty mission, just as we are about to get on the shuttle I would of told her, "I hope you have come up with a plan to get off this rock because you are going to need it." As I slam the door in her face and leave her on that rock.
At the end of Liam's Loyalty Mission I would of told him to "pack your bags, you are no longer a member of the Pathfinder squad or the Tempest."
It sure would have been nice to have characters I had meet in my travels to replace these losers with.
Yes I know many of you like those two and dislike others on the squad, so why not give the Pathfinder and Captain of the Tempest the ability to fill his squad with people he wants?
