It's because they want other people to validate their opinion. Everyone does it, they're just being kind of stupid about it. Or maybe they think that they're right and we should all succumb to their superior intellect /s Blegh, in the end it doesn't matter. Getting offended or worked up is so not worth, especially over a video game.

These are clear examples how hard BW failed. They gave us ugly females while the guys ingame are just... so...

I would like their attempts to be inclusive if it wasn't because they're doing it to avoid controversy rather than because their staff really, really care. It's become a sort of marketable device now to include PoC or women of certain untraditional types becuase the opposite is "evil".

I didn't read that as Ian being "butthurt". Try imagining you're him. You've made a game for 5 years and finally putting it out. You know it had some problems and you have a plan ahead of you and your team to fix the worst issues but you still have 5 years of work put into this and now people are starting to give a verdict on it. You try avoiding the laugh-track ridicule videos of your broken animations but you start reading the comments on the more thoughtful sites that aren't Youtube comments such as NeoGAF or BSN or Twitter. You get people with very strong negative reactions and vitreol and statements like "I literally can't believe this is made by a BioWare studio!" and "God, these animations are the worst I have seen in a AAA game" etc. that is "hard" to read about something you have personally had a lot of input in, in a professional capacity.

I'm sure Ian didn't mean to say he doesn't like reading it because we can go fuck ourselves. He just says it's hard because he has to be self-reflective but avoid beating himself up too much over it. People are different but personally I don't need a lot of direct criticisms thrown at me even if they're constructive before I start to feel shitty about it. It's really hard to filter out the personal stake you have in it and just look at what you have done objectively. I know, I've written music with people and programmed code for games :'(

I am also not sure why everyone calls the gal on the BF screenshot attractive. Must be the oval face? Because her eyes are very deeply set and weirdly round, and she has that huge forehead, and her hair does not exactly fall in those thick, luxurious waves to at least below her shoulders. And that color on her lips is terrible. What is that with glossy pink lips in these games?
