It's not a bad scene per se, comparable with 'tavern cards night' in DAI, I think. Not terrible, somewhat cheesy, but ok and enjoyable. Some parts were fun. What makes it feel worse are all the preparations & anticipation building. It should have had MUCH less stages, and something must be done with the timing. I mean - after 90 hours of waiting (in my case, approximate playtime from the first step) and so many efforts it's normal to expect something GRAND, yeah? Like a complex Citadel-party-like scenario no less. But all we get is ~2 minutes with little to none variations, commonly accompanied by the final model spawning bug (in my case Liam was holding the 'stealthed' sisRyder, I've seen peoiple mentioning wrong and\or invisible LIs and other glitches). MN would probably have worked much better as a 'surprise party' (same as in DAI), with the 'fetch' dialogues reworked into the main part (e.g. Vetra talking about the smuggled popcorn). First 'fetch-steps' seemed like a nice touch, but by the end it became annoying, and I'm not sure that any of it actually makes the difference (e.g. it's technically impossible to have an 'awful' party with poor snacks and 'wrong' movie). I could also live without SO many easter-eggs. Ryder quoting Han Solo (with Liam obviously recognizing the source) was one thing, 8th 'biotics awakening' episode and 'rare unedited versions with no crappy hanar' were like a bit too much. Ok, I get, it, BW love SW (and are waiting for the 'last guardianjedi')

Thanks for the replies everyone! The analogy to cards night in DAI makes sense except I think that was done way better (and Cullen *cough* I did romance him). You weren't running around half the galaxy trying to find contraband popcorn, I mean if Vetra is such a fixer why didn't she do it?
I am not loving my squadmates the same way I love my DA companions or MET for that matter. And also there are returning characters in the DA games which make it all feel much more connected.
Or maybe it was the animation. They all looked so bloody bored. Did they pick the wrong film?

I am not loving my squadmates the same way I love my DA companions or MET for that matter. And also there are returning characters in the DA games which make it all feel much more connected. I feel the same way. It's easy to explain that away with the trilogy building such a bond between your player and the returning characters, that they pale n comparison. But it's not that easy with DA:I. Total new player, totally new crew. If you haven't played DA:II, such as me, you didn't even meet Varric before. Leiliana also seems different to what she has been in DA:O. And yet they're all interesting and feel like persons you want to get to know. In MEA only Peebee and Drak interested me in the same way. With Drak probably because I always liked the Krogan. Vetra isn't a credible replacement for Garrus, and, minor detail, she and her sister's voices bug me to no end. They're just human females dressed up as Turians. That kills whatever immersion they offer. I don't think the character writers did as good a job as they did with DA:I. I leave the trilogy out of comparison, since there might be an unfair element of nostalgia on my part. Btw, I just played the scene for the second time. And for the second time I ended up with an invisible Ryder. Maybe that's an additional reason why I can't enjoy movie night as much as others seem to do. Fix that ASAP, I'd like to tell the devs. Or at least tell us what's making this happen.

I liked movie night. It was silly, sure, but cute. Could've done without all the fetch quests, but for the most part I was visiting those planets on other business anyway so it wasn't like I was going out of my way. And I found it kind of amusing that everyone felt the need to pitch in or one-up each other. As for 'earning' it or not... I think people are taking it way too seriously. In real life, do you pass on hanging out with people you haven't known for long because you haven't 'earned' it? If you do, do you not feel you've 'earned' the right to act a little goofy around them?
I mean, yeah, if we'd had the Citadel party after ME1 or even 2 it would've felt out of place, but that's because the crew barely interacted with each other until ME3. Personally, I prefer having a squad with enough dialogue to flesh them out and build relationships in a single game instead of it taking three. Don't get me wrong - I love the trilogy, but, replaying ME1 now I'm struck by how little everyone has to say outside of convos with Shepard. Movie night for them would've felt super contrived because outside of the occasional elevator banter the squad barely act like the others even exist. Where in Andromeda I do feel a sense of camaraderie on the Tempest where a night in just hanging out fits them just fine.

Interestingly, doing an NG+ run and having movie night early on without having to do the fetch quests for the companions, without having an LI either, so far, it's the first time my Ryder didn't disappear.

Same and same. In fact, my first run Jaal was cuddling with empty air. The NG+, despite some weirdness (like Lexi asking for the wine during the first Tempest conversation or Jaal asking for the parts before his loyalty mission) it went off without a hitch. I got to see Vetra and Sara cuddling like I'd hoped for.

I've not cringed that hard in years. I don't know what I find worse: cheesy dialogue/acting or intentionally cheesy dialogue/acting. It also doesn't help that the player disappears if the player has a love interest, but its completely fine without one (on new game +). It's like BioWare never tested this game. How in the hell could a "triple A" developer just let that slip by?

Oh...I guess I liked the overly-dramatic acting Kallo and Ryder did. The fact that it was super dramatic and cheesy made it funny for me, and the cherry on top was the crew awkwardly clapping. Agh well, I guess the movie night was not for everyone I guess, but it was certainly a great highlight for me

I like stuff like that, but as for me I'd wished for it being longer, with more opportunities to interact. It's the classic case of damned in you do do, damned if you don't. They tried to connect with the Citadel DLC, but ultimately failed because of cutting it short. It's what, 2 minutes overall?

It's like some of you people in this thread have never met new colleagues or people and had a night off with them.
You don't have to be best friends or have a great bond to watch a movie together. A simple movie night is a nice stepping stone for the crew and Ryder to develop said bonds, besides all the action and over the top situations they get themselves into.
Comparing this to Citadel DLC is a bit dumb to be honest. Movie night is one nice moment in one game, Citadel was a separate DLC, meant as a sendoff to the characters with met during 3 whole games.
Andromeda certainly has it's weak points and the glitches that accompany Movie night, i will not defend, but comparing relationships that developed over the course of a trilogy to those that have only had a chance to start developing in one game is not fair or honest.

It is just one moment/event - and one that is very much like something in the Citadel DLC. Since there's very few moments like this in the base game, I like that it involves the whole crew. The base game is meant to be about exploring Andromeda and all that, most of the "Citadel DLC" moments will be in a seperate DLC I'm sure.

I'm not one to typically enjoy cheesiness, but I get a laugh out of Movie Night. The terrible movie which we actually get to see; the vote on whether to fast forward (Drack gets outvoted); and Ryder's acting at the end-- I thought all of it was pretty believably done. I thought it well portrayed a crew who'd grown close.
I also liked how it went from an early expedition idea to a late game event. Liam thought a simple "de-stresser" was in order, but dire events led to it being postponed numerous times. That made sense. As so many stepped forward with their ideas for improving the event, it made them seem a bit more real. (That's the whole point, no?) They each showed some enthusiasm and a desire to improve the get-together. That was cool.
It was much more involved than DAI's card game. I think the issue is that few of us feel nearly as attached to Tempest's crew as we feel with the Inquisition team. DAI's characters are simply too well written for MEA to compete. ME is my first love, but DA's writing is nearly always stellar.

I didn't dislike movie night per say, it was good for what it was trying to accomplish and I did enjoy the scene itself. However I think it was ruined a bit for me by all the build up for it. I distinctly remember a point, I think it was when I was getting Lexi her wine or w/e and I realized this was like the sixth or seventh fetch quest I had done for this movie night. And I had the thought of, "this movie night better be fucking amazing to justify all these extra trips to kadara/aya/etc."
I think another thing that made it fall a bit short for me was how little interaction the crew actually had with each other. It was mainly just shots of them sitting around watching the movie. Drack wanting to fast forward to explosions was the only instance of one of the crew actually making an impact on the scene that I can recall.
Compared to the DAI card game there was both less player input and less interaction between the characters in the scene. And while they both accomplished the same thing, a relaxed team bonding scene, the DAI card game was far more memorable and left me with a lot more warm fuzzy feelings than movie night.

I can understand the fetching becoming annoying. I never made an extra trip to get a supply, as I recall. I just picked them up as I was in the neighborhood, so to speak. That approach makes all quests easier and more tolerable, in my experience.

Is the movie night still bugged. I haven't finished the last quest for that because I'm waiting for a fix... Unfortunately yes. The last part of the quest line didn't trigger for me at first. After I got Jaal's components, the quest line just stopped for me. Never got any new notification to continue the quest. I could only continue after finishing the main story, when I talked to Lexi. Suddenly the quest line continued after I did this. But never got any email nor did it show up in my journal. Also, my Sara Ryder was invisible during the final scene of movie night.

What bugged me most about the quest is that Liam says tensions are high, nearly at crisis point and they need some r&r and team bonding, but it doesn't actually happen till near the end of the damn game...

And it was the oddest quest I've ever done. It felt so forced and even my Ryder looked pissed off and bored at the end. Citadel was done with three games worth of getting to know your companions. This type of bonding thing felt way too soon and out of step with the game. Also all the fetch quests Urgh... Just me? Not to mention I don't like any of the characters besides Drak, and I despise Peebee and Liam. I would of told Liam where he could shove his movie night.

Different bugs for different people obviously. In my NG+ run I get to movie night pretty early on, since I don't have to do the fetch quests again. Not that I'm complaining about that, but an LI on board still results in an invisible Ryder.
