After finishing the game several times over; I am taking a break until DLC is released. Switching to Witcher 3+DLCs, then FFXV (gotta finish those plat runs, wish me luck). Curious what the community thinks about the enemies. I remember my first encounter with the 'boss level' mobs in ME:A on Eos (Kett base/Architect) and I was pleasantly surprised. Left me wondering what other things will be scattered throughout the cluster (secretly I was hoping for another Thorian-esque, Rachni, or something bizarre). Although the lore/source is completely different, I just look towards the enemies of the Fallout, Witcher, Dragon Age, FF, etc., and see so many different approaches and risks of enemies and their design.
-Are there enough unique enemy types?
-What enemies did you find fascinating?
-Would you prefer more/different boss fights?
tl;dr
Poll!

I was hoping for more unique animals on the different planets. They don't even all have to be aggressive; just some unique fauna. Instead we have different colors of the giant gorilla thing; different colors for the hammerhead dog things and different space cockroaches. Boring.
A lot of this game is supposed to be about exploration and learning things and I keep running into the same animals.
Also wish the Kett wouldn't respawn so fast at locations where I took them out. Too bad we don't have an option to blow up the location so they can't spawn there any more.

Something weird to tangle with would be great. Architect size or not just weird. Show a Yevarra or something at least.

I would be interested in a more interesting Exiles boss fight, with a more fleshed out boss.
Overall, I thought they need an additional kett boss type to add to the Ascendants. Liked Behemoth, would not mind a take on a mutated Turian or Salarian or some sort of a genetic abomination of the two or even a mutation of a human on a Fiend's body or something along those lines. Just Crazy Kett Experiments sort of idea.

Enemies is one of the weakest aspects and a testament to how uninspired the art direction was in this game.

I liked the enemy types from ME3 the most in the series, they provided a nice challenge that kept me on my toes every fight on Insanity. This go 'round, I admit to going on "auto-pilot" during the majority of enemy encounters and, if I didn't have Drack with me making his blood-pumping battle cries, I'd start to fall asleep. All I ended up doing was trying to whittle down their life and that's boring. The enemies I enjoyed fighting in Andromeda were the Mech suits, fiends and some of the Remnant foes. If I didn't focus on them, I ended up getting killed in 1-3 hits. It made me maneuver through the battlefield while I kept my eye on them, but also making sure to note the layout of the other enemies so I wouldn't end up with bullets peppering my back because I left my butt open dodging the wrong way. However, even with these enemies it can get tedious because they only have 2-3 skills that recycle use in combat. (And those skills mirror across the different enemy factions [Kett, Roakaar, etc...] so you're not really fighting anything new. Just changing the paint job, so to speak.) Honestly, I think the open areas have a bigger impact on the combat than one might think. If I was fighting in corridors, I'd probably feel more challenged by the encounters in this game and the different enemy types might not feel quite as dull or repetitive (at least in the earlier runs of the game). The "bullet-sponge" effect might not be quite as noticeable, either <- it'd at least add to the illusion of them not being there. What would I like for combat here? Well, I want enemies who are designed for an open-world encounter. I want enemies who will use that to their advantage, laying traps for me or something. The encounters in this game feel like their suppose to be for those corridor battles in the trilogy - they all run to cover around you and your playing peek-a-boo with guns until the enemies are dead. I want my enemies to have more abilities to choose from and have more interesting dynamics when their grouped up that changes up their strategies against me. I want enemy types to be different and unique for each faction, not similar enemies in different skins. I'd also like the "bullet-sponge" deal to go away. I don't want to sit there for an hour fighting an opponent just to get his health down <- there's no challenge in that. It's the combat equivalent to watching paint dry. The long length should only be achieved because the player is in a true test of skill where you have to use your brain, not because the guy's got a ridiculous health/shield bar. (BTW, I'm speaking mainly of the battles involving the enemies with orb shields around them. They were ridiculously easy, they just took forever to bring down and it did nothing except draw the fight out.) Oh, and just because I thought the fighting with the enemies who could one-hit-kill you was a bit invigorating, don't go spamming that everywhere. It can be an exceedingly frustrating tactic to deal with. One or two enemy types max with this ability, otherwise it's like hitting your head against the wall.

The diversity of ennemies was ok I guess, if they had to put more effort in objects, I would have prefered more flaura/fona than ennemies

The outlaw enemies felt like a bad fit to me, since it feels like Ryder slaughters a significant amount of the total Milky Way species' population in a dire situation where every single life counts. Sure Shepard killed a thousand mercs too, but the Andromeda situation makes it so much more pronounced. Not that I wish for less enemy variety, since there's already so little of it. Maybe if the encounters had more narrative weight it would work better.
Also none of the enemies felt really threatening, like the praetorian mentioned above.

Not all enemies were all that interesting design wise but they were definitely alot more challenging in my opinion
In particular the Roekarr, definitely the most tactical enemies I've faced in ME. Their snipers acted like Sniper and you'd often have to keep your eyes peeled for their laser sight and the fact that most of them wield Sandstorm AR was definitely not help, 2-3 shots to pop your Shields then kill you outright. Definitely the only group to make me sweat and swear in fustration

Enemy design is one of the weaker points imo. I like the Remnant, but don't like the Kett. And as has been said, there should be more variety. Thankfully gameplay is very good nonetheless. I hope the Quarian DLC will bring more and better ones.

the enemy variety wasn't particularly good and there wasn't a whole lot of variety in the different enemy types, the boss fights were repetitive, and there was nothing to break up the standard fighting method.

So we can strafe left and right and pew pew over and over and over and over again against some giant bulletsponge who's only redeeming quality is how cool it looks? No thanks. Bosses have never worked in ME and they never will.

Nope.
The selection is actually pretty damn weak. There simply isn't enough variety. But I guess that is expected when the game is mostly about shooting Kett.

There was such a missed opportunity for some horrible beast to be living in a cave. Every cave I went in, I thought I would run across something horrible and difficult to fight. Nothing. In terms of exploration and new species, this seems like a bit of an oversight.
Nothing in this game has given me the willies like the Banshees in ME3 (that creepy fast thing they do when they get up on you? Gah!). Or even the husks (they scared the absolute crap out of me, and considering the focus on mobility in this game, a fast running mob could have been nice to engage here and there to get the blood pumping).
Also...I haven't noticed the Angara (Roakkar) doing anything interesting with their bio-electric thing in battle. Are they doing something that I am missing??

They were ok. Could have been better, but they were already better than ME3's enemy variety. The Kett were interesting, but would have benefited from more variety. I loved fighting Milky Way species again, especially Krogan.
I'm hoping to see more varieties of Kett and their vassal species from other clusters. Preferably these species would be less humanoid and more alien. My main gripe with the aliens in MEA is that they seem even more anthropomorphised than in the MET. For example, I loved the Yahg design because they truly look alien.
The moment where I was most disappointed in enemy variety occurred on Havarl. After finding Avitus and seeing references to deadly, carnivorous plants, I was really hoping we'd get the chance to fight them. It was a shame we never saw them in gameplay.

Collectors, Geth, Husks (etc), mechs and best of all, three very distinct merc factions with their own mini bosses that actually spoke to you (which made defeating them even sweeter).

Yeah, I have to completely agree - I would find it hard to believe so many people would join the initiative/exhibit the behavior they did.
