I liked how the enemies could actually attack each other, in some instances you could just hang back and let two enemy factions fight between each other then pick off the remains, or you could send in a few explosives and send them all flying.

There was slightly more variety than 3, which I'm happy about, but at the same time yes, I wanted more. It kind of relates to my other main criticism which is that there weren't more new alien species. I was expecting there to be a lot more than just a single race and the bad guys that we both fight.

For all the justified criticism, I'd like to point out that the trilogy games weren't exactly good examples of variety either. At least 2 and 3. 2 and 3 were very different. 2 had three diverse merc bands, the Collectors, and there was always a possibility of encountering something different in missions. Klixen, varren, batarians, geth, mechs. 3 had only three factions in the entire base game. So yeah, at least Andromeda's better than that.

From a gameplay perspective, I enjoyed all of the enemies except the Architects and Ascendants.
The foot-soldiers, whether grunts or bosses, were pretty fun. Fighting outlaws feels different than fighting kett, and each faction has a good variety of units and tactics. Getting swarmed by a full ensemble -- lots of leaders, mini-bosses and foot soldiers working together -- generally leads to a fun encounter.
The Ascendant and Architect fights are very bland. The tactics on either side remain unchanged for 5-20 minutes, as I combo and shoot either an orb or an Architect repeatedly until it's defeated. Better boss fights are a must.
Another thing I think comes into play is the difficulty setting. (This is not an elitist "I play Insanity" post.) This game feels like it was made to be played on Insanity. The lower difficulties allow enemies to be mowed down before they can display the great variety and complementary tactics with which they've been programmed. I really wish more people would take the plunge and up the difficulty. With many games, MEA included, this offers a markedly different experience.

I think I had general gameplay in mind rather than different factions when mentioning ME2, gameplay-wise I found ME2 far too repetitive.
