Glad they added melee weapons but Personally I'm a lil disappointed not to see more variety like long swords, Roman style and katana' the short sword is Asari but I'd like to see more human style melee weapons
Plus the asari short sword shouldn't do as much damage as the krogen hammer. It should just be faster to swing but I guess it could make up the damage from its teleport, momentum and all
the omni blade it was cool in me:3 thanks to the animation but now the animation is gone
Would like to see new melee weapons More variety of the swords hammers and the Omni Tool maybe a sycle for the omni tool

I've honestly only used the Biotic Amp for any period of time. I tried the Remnant Gauntlet when I first recovered it, but preferred straight damage from my melee attacks. I will eventually develop a Tier X Asari Sword, but it's below a few other weapons on my list of priorities. I have over 8000 AI Research Points, but they disappear quickly when evolving to Tier X.
ME is a powers and guns game, in my opinion. The new melee weapons are cool in that they don't really distract or disrupt this paradigm for me. I think this is why I like the Biotic Amplifier the most. It seems reasonable within the lore, and doesn't give me any "space ninja" or "knives in a gunfight" vibes.
EDIT: That second sentence was a masterwork of typos!

Eh, I don't really think we need more melee weapons unless they come up with something new and unique that also fits the lore and makes sense to use in combat.
I like that we have melee options, but the only ones that really make sense to me are the biotic amp, the omni-blace, and maybe the Remnant cryo-gauntlet.
The others feel more like they were added to include more space fantasy elements at the expense of immersion.

I'd prefer more tech-style/omni-tool melee weapons. Nothing over the top nor flashy, just quick, useful, and looks like it makes sense lore-wise. N7 Demolisher's melee from ME3 Multiplayer was a pulse blast from the omni-tool which was pretty cool. Also, Batarian Gauntlet please!

I'd like to see that Omni-Whip thing that the Cerberus unit, whatever it's name was, had in ME3. You know with armor as hp? Centurion? Would fill a niche of having a melee weapon with longer range and maybe could ignite people or knock them down.

There's no point as long as we only have one melee attack animation.
Yes I know they added aerial melee - but this is exactly the same for all characters in multiplayer and doesn't change - if for example you're a biotic it should be a biotic ground punch similar to nova.
Melee in MEA is a step backwards from ME3 multillayer where we had light attack chains and heavy melee, all of which was different depending on kit. At the very least MEA could do with having light melee chains returned for more attack variety in combat.

I was a little bummed that the energy whips from ME3 multiplayer didn't make an appearance, but honestly I didn't use most of the ones they already do have. There was no reason to use anything other than the asari sword or krogan hammer, as they do the most straight damage, and the secondary effects of the other weapons just weren't good enough to bother with.
Why burn or freeze a target for a couple of seconds when I could just finish them in one blow?

Current variety is good. 9 options for what is supposed to be secondary is more than enough. Single animation per weapon is where they kinda feel flat, not sure what else could they do with such combat system and pacing though. Sync-kills against unarmored targets instead of absent heavy attack? I was a little bummed that the energy whips from ME3 multiplayer didn't make an appearance, but honestly I didn't use most of the ones they already do have. You've clearly missed a lot, my friend, otherwise you'd know why Carfalon is worth to bother.

Why burn or freeze a target for a couple of seconds when I could just finish them in one blow? The cryo gauntlet saved me many times from dogs and breachers trying to flush me out of cover. It's a good backup weapon for non-melee character builds. Also, once I froze an anointed that tried to flank me from behind. I was a second from death, and luckily my squad had taken his shields off so I punched him and escaped

I admit that at first, I hoped that would be possible to play the game like a beat them all and have classes that nearly only uses their melee weapon.

I saw Liam using 2 omni-blades on both hands. Considering that I use ranged weapon only on Observers and Architects, I'd trade the assault rifle for the second dagger. And it would look better. Also there should be attack chains (like in ME3), instead of one repeated hit. So far I've seen normal attack, jump attack and running attack. All include only one strike.

I saw Liam using 2 omni-blades on both hands. I wouldn't mind having that as an option, even if it limited you to a specific weapon class.

I like to try different types on the go and swap around alot.
What i wanted to see or what would be great for MEA 2 is...
Step 1. Instant kill bosses having a way out (you will see why). Take the Kett beast
Grabbed - roar - tossed to ground - stomp.
Now changed to this (ps4 as idea):
Grabbed - roar - tossed to ground - Press circle to roll the right dodge first fist - quickly press square to roll left to dodge second fist - both fists raised and come down press x to jump jet backwards away from beast.
Don't press it quick enough - your dead but this gives you a way out.
Step 2. Melee is now a weapon mode and no longer secondary class. This allows for L2 to act as lock on target and for multiple buttons. You could then use abilities in combo with your melee very nicely. Swapping to guns on the go just as normal and allowing for more choice.
The rest of the combat system is superb just melee feels clunky. Plus step 1 will help with MP sync killing (happens abit to myself).

Even if it is not linked to the subject, I think that for the next mass effect they should make the meele fight more engaging with reaction from ennemies, parrying and counter attack, and of course the different melee weapons would act differently depending on their weights and nature (hammer, swords, or knife).

BioWare probably won't go that in depth but new animations for the new melee weapons wouldn't be too hard to do
