So let's talk about this name. Anthem. When you hear it, what does that mean to you? The name Anthem makes me think of Ayn Rand's novel. And now for the crash, as we remember the game is still ~17 months away... Let's hope we don't get the same marketing as Mass Effect: Andromeda, otherwise we shall have lots of SOON(TM)
You reminded me of mdnplayer/MadWii.

So let's talk about this name. Anthem. When you hear it, what does that mean to you? First things to come to mind is football and ice hockey. Nice to hear it might be possible to play the game solo (not yet officially confirmed anywhere and there were lots of lies about Andromeda in these Bioware tweets, so I'll remain skeptical for now). I hope the game is not 1st person like in that demo before the player put on the javelin suit. There was also no dialogue wheel to be seen in the conversation with that dude. It was stated in the bioware interview after the microsoft presentation that the game could be played solo. Which seems pretty official?

What was that Aaron Flynn "carefull..." tweet referring to then?

I'm not sure one way or the other but a few pages back biofan was saying he thinks it was more along the lines of banter sorta thing directed at the dev who asked people to ask him their gameplay questions for anthem, yknow like 'lol careful dude you just opened the floodgates to all those people'

Good, that clears things up. I was quite confused because dialogue seemed way too dynamic while voice acting was pretty poor and dialogue bad. It's quite weird for Bioware to market a game as Co-Op first. Yup. But Bioware's been super weird lately. *Looks around* I recognize this section of my gaming universe less and less. Well Bioware is trying diversify it's game release line up. I mean, hell, Shattered Steel is their first game and they developed MDK2 straight after Baldur's Gate. And they also created Sonic Chronicles for Nintendo DS. And Mass Effect 1 was also a very not-Bioware game at the time. Every once in a while, Bioware releases a game that does not look it belongs to Bioware line up.

My primary takeaway here is that increased mobility looks fun AF and I want it in DA4 but I'm not sure how.

OK, it's great to wake up to Anthem being playable solo and having a BioWare story, it definitely gets me on board. Still so far away though, I fear now a long-ish drought of news is coming.

Are there going to be companions? It didn't look like there were dialogue options, is that not going to be a thing? Is there a character creator? Is the game actually going to be story-DRIVEN with a strong narrative?

And now for the crash, as we remember the game is still ~17 months away... Same as the MEA announce. (E3 2015 - ships Fall 2016) Still room to slip to Spring 2019... So, is this thread going to remain in the off topic Lobby area, or...? Nope... it'll move to a new home.

This time around, you can wait to play ME:A future DLC's and still active and supported Co-Op while waiting for Anthem. Unlike with ME:A where there was nothing from Bioware September of 2015.

Trying to work out why I have such a negative reaction to this based on such limited info.
I think its mostly the suits. I've never liked getting stuck in bulky power armour type stuff, and in a Bioware game particularly it just seems like a device to render the character faceless and without personality.
Maybe I should draw some hope from the brief shot of the pilots face, but everything else about the presentation says that you're Faceless Mcshooty person and nothing else.

Now that the fact that you can play solo has been addressed, this is possibly my biggest concern. I play plenty non RPG games, so I can live with BioWare doing something new and releasing a game with a totally linear narrative and no dialogue system, but games where you play random dudes who shoot things are definitely not made for me, I need some kind of connection with the characters, even if as shallow as in, to name one, Borderlands.

Is there a character creator? Is the game actually going to be story-DRIVEN with a strong narrative? I think the only thing I think has low chances to be in are the companions, since it'd heavily change the game based on how you play it, solo or in company. I think there are good chances there'll be important characters in the game, but they won't be the ones going with you in missions. There might be bots instead of real people with you around (although the trailer didn't suggest that), but I don't think they'll be real npcs, in the sense you can talk to them. Maybe I'm wrong though. A thing to consider is that the game, even if an rpg and with a Bioware type of story, it still seem very different from their traditional games, so I think it's better to not expect any of the traditional elements until they're announced. Which I don't have a problem with. They're saying (and they said for a while) that it'll be a very different game from their previous ones, so expectations should be different. I don't see nothing wrong in wanting to make a different type of game. I just hope that they'll put the same aumont of effort on their other games, as they seem to have done with this in terms of animations and graphic details.

There seems to be 3 types of Javeline: wizard-type (?), heavy hitting/tank (colossus) and "balanced" (ranger).

Being able to solo relieves a lot of anxiety.
Now...where is the money going to come from? Subscription? Microtransactions? There doesn't seem to be any class restrictions. It's based around what Javelin suit you are wearing. So maybe you start with one suit and can buy the rest for your arsenal?
If Jade Empire hits backwards compatibility I'll pick that up since I never played it.

I've been pretty down on Dylan/Anthem when it looked/looks like Destiny, but I think Hrungr and Heimdall might be right. Why have Bioware make a Destiny killer if you aren't going to put at least some Bioware story magic into it? And it wouldn't take much to crush Destiny -- since it's pretty much devoid of a cohesive narrative. Even a slightly decent narrative would be a (potentially) big competitive advantage. I say "potentially" because I'm unsure how much the larger coop-action gaming market cares about story. I know what most of the hardcore Destiny grinders care about is the loot progression and not being cheated out of their invested hours every time a new update comes out that gives noobs gear that's equally as powerful as what it took you 100 hours to grind out. That's the thing about evergreen grinding games, how do you balance the gear and rewards economy when you have 100+ hour lifers competing with noobs? How do you keep the bar low enough to attract noobs, but don't penalize the pros? Reaching back a little, but I think it's worth noting that the lack of narrative is something Bungie identified as a problem and is looking to remedy in Destiny 2. I think it's important because it's a good feature to draw in new players: draw them in with narrative and pretty environments, keep them playing through peer pressure and the grind. So it seems to be important for the coop-action market.
