I think that all was left of the Jardaan are the remnant, that the Jardaan died/were killed off by "the opposition" and that the "Angara" that were created are a result of some contingency plan for the Jardaan to save their race. 1. Angara have genetic memory, and Jaal finds Meridian to be familiar. 2. The AI is of "Angaran" design, but refutes current Angara (and Angaran society shuns the idea of AI) 3. Jaal speaks of Voeld being a densely populated planet pre-scourge, but there's no records. The only tie Angara have to the pre-scourge days are the highly intelligent whales beneath the ice on Voeld. So my theory is this: 1. Jardaan die 2. Remnant began teraforming and creating Angara (Jardan) 3. Process is interrupted with Meridian being attacked by the scourge, spreading the scourge instantly through the cluster. Meridian breaks contact and flees, leaving current Angara with no knowledge of their "creators" (ancestors). The flaws with this: Codex states that Jardaan began seeding Heleus in 1600, which would mean they possibly migrated to Heleus to rebirth? This also means the Jardaan, their technology and Angara were all present when the Initiative scanned. Also means that Jardaan/and/or Remnant and Angara shared a period of nearly 800 years coexisting before the scourge hit in 2400(and some change)
That or the whales on Voeld are all that's left of the Jardaan and they're hiding. According to an exhibit's description in Aya's museum the current Angaran date is Revolution 826, see below: Something important must have happened roughly 800 years ago for the Angara to base their timeline on it, but if there is any explanation in the game what could be meant by "Revolution", I have missed it. However, this supports the Angara have coexisted with the Jardaan during this period for 400 years until the Scourge appeared and their history was lost all but completely, which is a bit hard to belief. Maybe the Angara had no contact with the Jardaan, though it is not likely there was no interaction at all with their creators. Whatever the case, they still remember an event they called Revolution that happened exactly when the terraforming in Heleus began, so they must know something about the Jardaan.

Entirely doubtful if you ask me
Why would the remnant bots then act as simple VIs? Why did they retain none of the AI they were part of?
Then again....I could see it happen too under the right conditions
Like a race of AI that killed their creators and is now trying to "make up" for it

That would be year 1600 (ish) which coincides with the codex entry stating that the Jardaan began seeding Heleus and creating the Angara. Prior to that could have been the Remnant/Meridian searching for a suitable place to rebuild. The 800 year gap could be that the Angara had no Jardaan to interact with?

I hope the Jaardan are not AI, but I wouldn't be surprised. AI, or some heavily modified organic entities. There was some note at the end of the game that said, iirc, that even the Jaardan were nervous? Fearful? Something like that about Meridian. Something about Meridian scared them. At first I thought, after they created Meridian they got nervous about it? But then I thought, wait did the Jaardan actually create Meridian themselves? Do we know for sure that they are the ones that actually created the Meridian? Did I miss something? Because it's quite possible I did . Why would they be nervous about Meridian? I just don't want to assume the extent of their capabilities, much like we did with the Protheans. I'm trying to go over in my mind everything we learned about the Jaardan, or everything that I happened to stumble across. We know for sure that the Jaardan created the Angara, right? But do we know that the Jaardan were indeed the ones that created the technology that enabled the terraforming, etc. Or did they simply discover it when they got to Heleus, and then figured out how to use it like we did? edit: btw, and my apologies OP, this is a bit OT, But what the heck was going on with Ryder in the scene where s/he is "hearing things" more than just SAM in their head? At the beginning when we're heading out for Eos; the big shining star; you hold up your arm to block the glare, but then you slip into an almost trance like state. You hear these whispers at first, then what sounds like some voices. Then Liam's voice zooms in and you're back. If you pick the dialogue choice saying you're still messed up from your father's death, Ryder will say no I think I'm still feeling it, and hearing something else in my head besides SAM. You all seem fairly acquainted with the lore. I was wondering if there was anything else about that because it seemed kind of weird, alarming and important.
