if Vetra wasn't turian....

I agree. As I've played, and even completed her loyalty mission I wanted so much to like her. I love the Turians and much like many other people, Garrus is one of my favorite characters in the franchise. I tried so hard to like Vetra but she's just boring. Her sister gives her a few layers, but it didn't seem like it was capitalized on in the right ways in the game. I don't really know how to describe it.

She's my second least favorite companion now just because she's just not all that interesting. She has a pre-existing relationship with Drack and she has so many black market connections I just don't think she was utilized to a good capacity in the game.

However, I will say that Garrus was pretty flat and dull as a character in Mass Effect 1. He really didn't come in to his own until the second game. I'm hopeful we will see more of Vetra and she will grow on me in future games.

Rock climbing was what got me. It was an amazing bonding quest. She also has a pleasant voice. Cool battle animations. I actually had the same feelings towards her as I did to Garrus, solid and non-annoying, has a grand bonding moment (with Garrus it was the target practice in ME3). Maybe it's a Turian thing. They look awesome as non-joinable, but as joinables they are... good at holding your back, even-tempered, loyal... and that's great, if not uber exciting.

I didn't think any of the characters particularly stood out in MEA regardless of their species, turian, human or otherwise, but that's very much down to taste.

She didn't have a hugely dramatic or powerful background, but since I've been getting tired of every other character being the most powerful or most important, I appreciate seeing some characters who are a little less over-powered in story terms.

If Vetra was human, I'd still find her more interesting than the other human squad mates we got.

I like Vetra quite a lot. She's had shit to deal with her entire life and she keeps on trucking, sacrificing her own happiness regardless of obstacle for the good of her family. That's enough to make me respect her a great deal. I mean, I like Garrus, obviously, but not because he was so deep as a character. He doesn't follow procedure but gets results anyway? What a stunningly original archetype, certainly nobody has written a human in such a manner!

I like Vetra fine. She has a good heart, is family orientated, and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.

Does anyone really stands out? also I find Garrus really boring never quite got the fandom love either. 

This is something I always liked about BioWare games. Since the companions all have personalities and desires of their own, it's really down to personal taste on whether you like a character or not. 

For example, I prefer Vetra to Garrus. In ME1 I found Garrus kinds bland, in my first playthrough ME2 I thought the game was forcing me to be his best friend (that greeting Shep, gives him didn't reflect my feelings towards him) and in subsequent ME2 playthroughs and ME3 I got to like him a lot more. 

With Vetra on the other hand, I liked her straight way and liked her more as I got to know her, she hasn't had half the character development of Garrus and I've only done one playthrough so far and already I'd consider her Ryder's bestie. 

I wouldn't go that far, Drack is the best Krogan character we've ever had, and as much as people dislike Liam he's got to be better than Vega.

I actually really like Vetra, her being a female Turian was icing on the cake. She provided insight into the workings of the Nexus and added a personal touch to the story with her family arc.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Wrex and Grunt, I never expected that I'd prefer Drack. I just think that Drack is written better and more dimensional overall, even if he's only had one game.

Like you said, I think some people need to remember that the MEA crew have only had one game whereas Garrus and Tali for instance, have had three games to develop. I have very high hopes for these characters in the future.

Nah, I wouldn't. Her personality is boring. Her story arc is cliche and done before(in ME no less). Her character doesn't have any profound change, she gets a little more optimistic but that's it. The only thing that stands out about her is the fact the turians have really goofy-ass models in this game.
