Share your thoughts on your ideas about "Mass Effect 4" 4-5 years back when BioWare announced that they're working on a 4th game. What was your initial imagination about the story, timeline and setting for "Mass Effect 4"? Did you think that BW was gonna bring Sheppy back or make one of the endings canon and pick up from it? Share below...

I completely forgot it was a thing until all the facial animation memes came out. Then I bought it entirely because of the facial animations, so I suppose I got what I expected.

The next game i was gonna crank another 1000+ hours into. The game didn't really come out at all as expected for me.
But i sure love the jumpjet and looking foward to MEA 2 with high expectations. To correct and learn from MEA.

Pretty much what we got minus the profiles. I miss specific classes tbh. Not a fan of the jack-of-all-trades thing where everyone can be everything.

I never expected a "canon ending". They had already begun to make it clear that wasn't going to happen. I also never thought there would be a continuation of Shepard or a Shepard2.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but ME:A certainly fulfilled my expectations for a new Mass Effect experience. I'm definitely happy with what I bought.

I'll just say that the Andromeda Initiative videos were somewhat misleading and leave it at that.

I thought our player character would be someone born and raised in Andromeda, to whom Milky Way was never a home and everything that happened there would be very distant and insignificant.

I thought it was going to be about three factions (red, blue, green) trying to dominate the Milky Way galaxy. I think I was a little off.

After finishing the game I thought they're going to canonize Red Ending, but soon enough they made it clear that canon is not hapening and I stumbled upon Andromeda theory. So it was my expectation ever since. I even guessed right stasis/FTL combination for their escape. Still I missed with ODSY drive, was expecting them to use Sovy's core on single Ark. As for the story I expected more grounded story about settling unknown frontier and dealing with natives in contrast with galaxy wide doom in OT. Not entirely wrong, but that's clearly turned out far from main point of the game.

MEA is pretty much what I expected, though with many shortcomings. Unfinished, unpolished, buggy, too lighthearted.

I expected what we have....just a lot more creative/in depth, better written, and much better characters.
TBH I also expected a lot more soapbox standing after DA: I. It's nice that they moved away from that. I know why of course...just thought someone else would fill that void.

I thought the next game would feature Shepard, but instead of playing as a soldier, play as a farmer. The game would be titled The Farm Effect. Shepard plays as a farmer who has to deal with the local government about land rights. Conrad Verner plays as her beau. Udina is the bigshot government official. Samantha Traynor is her lawyer. James and Ashley play as hired farm hands. The game takes place in the state of North Carolina.
After my first playthrough, the guy says One more story. I thought, cool, Shepard will be in another game. Of course that didn't happen.
I don't know for sure what I thought the next game would be like. Maybe have it continue in the Milky Way and have Shepard. Still like to see Shepard in another game.

I did not know about Andromeda until 2016, so I sat and finally played the MET for the first time.
I had very little concept of what MET was like before I started, I just remeber hearing it was a voiced protagonist, and seeing a clip form either met2/3 with swearing during a mission back in like 2005 or something. So, I had no expectations for MET, except there is some swearing and guns, because I just never sat and waited for it, just picked it on sale and played.
With Andromeda, the information was completely accurate, and I knew what I am going to get, and basically the only thing that surprised me was that it had a traditional happy ending. I was expecting another tragic bitter sweet don't get attached thing after my DA marathon. Lol.

I expected a sci-fi epic with infinite replay value, not a high fantasy sloth run. Even the game play is a let down. But more importantly, I envisioned an alien with Miranda's butt x2.

I played Vanguard all game, only switched profiles once to Explorer to see what it was. . Self control to stick with one class is a big part of it. It also hurts an rpg imo for one person to fill all roles. Certain dialogue can be affected by your class as well. And imo, the character loses individuality and uniqueness when it's "Ryder, the Everything" as opposed to "Ryder the Engineer", or "Ryder, the Vanguard", etc. I made a poll on the subject and I'm honestly really surprised at the results so far. I figured the majority of rpg'ers would prefer classes but I was apparently wrong (at least based on the answers from this forum). So you're definitely not alone in enjoying the jack-of-all-trades profile system. The poll is here if you're interested. I, however, prefer set classes. I guess it has a lot to do with playing older rpg's and mmo's like Everquest, where specific roles did specific things. It's important to remember though, that neither of us are more right or wrong than the other...we just have different opinions.

I expected utter garbage, after where ME2 and ME3 took the series, and then the ending. Oh GOD the ending. Yeah, I heard about Andromeda and I immediately dismissed it and ignored it until 2-3 months before launch. Then after watching enough stuff about it, I went from thinking I'd never even TRY the thing, to cautiously optimistic.
It's actually much better than I was expecting, but I was going in with some pretty low expectations.

I wasn't thinking very much about it, honestly. I ended up placing an order just before launch, because a friend of mine was ordering it. He has kids now and is busy, so pretty much all he plays is Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Fallout.
I bought Mass Effect primarily so I could talk to him about it. My priority with these games has always been gay male romances (the only reason I ever gave BioWare a shot in the first place), and in that respect I was disappointed, but not the least bit surprised.

I don't like or dislike it as a concept, I'm just in favor of anything that gives players more choices, not less. I'm pretty sure I voted in that poll. You were under the impression that what class people played controlled subsequent playthroughs, which isn't the case for a lot of people. Some people play every playthrough as one class, but change up story choices, love interests, etc.

More side quest content and distinguishable/memorable non-squad side characters. And more dialogue/tone options. Otherwise about the same as we got.

I never thought about leaving the MW. I suspected it to take place either during the trilogy or before. Perhaps First Contact or the beginnings of Cerberus, or maybe play as a merc during the events of ME:T and we'd get secondhand accounts of Shepard'n'crew from civilians or news networks.
I wanted a more personal story that didn't focus on saving the galaxy, or even a world for that matter. The people you met along the way and became your crew would be the driving force you'd become the hero for. We'd see a civilian side to Mass Effect's Milky Way instead of through the eyes of the military and officers and the political bigwigs. I wanted environments that put you on a personal level with the everyday people (like what we got in the Citadel DLC, where Shepard fought through back alleys and shopping districts). Slice of life stuff. I didn't think we'd actually get this, but hoped it would exist in some capacity in ME4. Andromeda is sorely lacking this.
The endings were such a hot issue, I figured they'd leave it be for while. I didn't expect anything to take place after the games events unless it was decades later, a future where it just about didn't matter which ending you picked, you'd end up in the same place and ME would continue on as it had before.

I expected it to be inspired by DAI and TW3 and it was. I expected exploration and close friendships, and I got that. I expected a more hopeful and brighter tone after the trilogy and got that too and I expected them to tread very carefully since it was the first ME game since ME3 and give us a plot they will develop in later games by starting out slowly with MEA, and it seems they are doing that.
I did not expect them to go the DA route with a saga though.
