So I was thinking about what type of alien race we should meet next, and struggling a bit to think of somethint interesting that had not been already done in the original trilogy.
The best I could come up was an insectoid like race (one of the Xindi sub races from star trek) that vieved mammals as food.
Any other suggestions?

I've always wanted an insectoid species aswell. Something akin to ants, with black, shiny exo-skeletons, but bipedal so they're able to be have a bigger role than being a comic relief race for the rest of the franchise.

I loved the Shadows from B5, they freaked me out. I have always found GW's Tyranid concept disturbing as well. Maybe Bioware should revisit the Racni in MEA2.

I'd like to see small aliens, which has some kind of semi organic exosuits which will help them to interact with the other current races.

Killiks, the Space Termites were rather meh in SWTOR. I'd rather see more space furries in Vorcha's mold, they were funny.
Small, luminescent energy beings not shaped as humanoids will also be neat. Always loved shapechangers in DS9. Whatever they are, I hope their social structure is neither tribal, nor imperial. Good old space anarchists, yeah, we need that, quarrelsome and insane race that has no prevailing opinion. no family structure, no settlements, just wild individuals.
We totally need a take on Ferengi, and another rendition on Batarians, because we did not get Batarians, and that's just sad.
Overall, I would be the happiest if Remnant will start transforming into Gree.
That hostile AI, if it becomes a member of an disembodied AI race, taking over whichever mech like ghosts would be a sweet, sweet boss race...

Definitely something far from humanoid. Insectoid would be good; something not cuddly. Something that we run from. Maybe with surprising technology or control over their environment.

Thing is Bioware wants you to be able to screw their alien races. Just that itself kills a lot of imagination. If they could let go of their incessant need for every race to be romance able we could get more creative.

I'm hoping for designs that seem more alien and less anthropomorphised. There's times when I have to remind myself that the Mass Effect aliens are just that and not weird looking people.
I honestly loved the Yahg designs, they truly looked alien. Hopefully we get something a bit more along those lines, or something alien in the same sense that Halo's sangheili are.

Give me some freaky like a centaur from Fallout 3 or an Eye of a Beholder from D&D. Enough with the bipeds already. Give me the Hanar, Elcor and Rachni to prove the universe is truly diverse. As it is, Andromeda was packed with Asari and Salarian clones with varying face paint.

Something better written for starters. For all BioWare's talk about the Angara being new and alien, they sure don't come across like it in their dialog and lore. At most, you could say that their emphasis on emotional outbursts could be considered "alien" insofar as a teenage girl, or someone with bi-polar disorder is otherworldly. As others have mentioned, BioWare really needs to move away from making everything in-universe instantly relatable/fuckable. There's no intellectual imagination behind finding something that is exactly like us and conforms to what we find sexually attractive. In a game supposedly all about discovery and exploration; all intellectual pursuits mind you; there is remarkably little of it in regards to finding actual 'alien' life in a galaxy 2.5 million light years away from home. Hell, the Milky Way was more diverse with aliens like the Rachni, Thorian, Elcor, Hanar and Geth; all showing up in the first game of the series I might add; than anything we've seen in Andromeda. Granted, species like the Elcor, or Hanar weren't exactly "beyond your comprehension" levels of 'alien-ness' but they were definitely on another level compared to what Andromeda has had to offer, and that's not even getting into their appearance; just the writing behind them. Speaking of appearances, anything non-humanoid, or more specifically non-biped, please. The setting feels so limited with this seemingly arbitrary limit placed on what form sentient life can take. Having only humans running around with other rubber mask wearing humans is incredibly boring after the fourth game; especially when the very first title showed that non-humnoid was possible. I've heard the argument that non-humanoid animations are hard to do, but seeing as how Andromeda can pull off quadruped aliens like the Ahdi and Fiend (arguably) better than human ones; the whole "My face is tired" debacle springs to mind; I would think that non-humnoid would be an improvement. At least that way, if there is animation issues it won't be as glaringly obvious. Indeed, people might even applaud that insectoid alien's weird, jittery movement and soulless eyes as praiseworthy design rather than signs of a broken/unpolished game. For specific preferences of which types of aliens I would like to see: - Insectoid would definitely be at the top of the list. More 'alien' aliens like the Rachni, or better yet, bring the Rachni back. They were so interesting with their manner of speech and unique perspective on the universe it felt almost a crime that they were relegated to a bit cameo in the entire trilogy and then quietly ushered off camera never to be seen or spoken of again.
- Plant/Fungoid based aliens would be good as well, though I would defer to the side of fungus species just because our own terrestrial version of that particular form of life is already pretty alien in it's own right. Maybe an alien that forms a symbiotic relationship with other species, giving the fungus a means of locomotion and protection, while providing the host with sentient thought; not unlike the Lattimor from Numenera.
- The Hanar and Elcor need to also make the transition to Andromeda, and not as cheap comic relief either. There was so much potential behind these species when we first encountered them in ME 1. The Hanar with their dualistic nature, and extreme politeness even unto beings it hated, to the Elcor with their slow, deliberate speech, spoken for other species' benefit, and their incredible strength, more than that of even the Krogan, etc. Unfortunately, BioWare deemed it necessary to squander all that for the sake of reoccurring meme generator in the form of Blasto, or to insinuate that the Elcor were collectively dimwitted idiots because of their speech patterns. But with a potential new series set in a new galaxy, they have the opportunity to rectify that error and showcase these species as a nice touch of the 'alien' in a rather hum-drum and human(oid) centric setting.
- I would say synthetics as well, but BioWare seems too keen on having "robots as people" to want to explore the potential of a very different, and alien form of life. Not all AIs what to become "real boys" and at the same time not all AIs want to "kill all humans" either. Surely, a being capable of processing many millions of times more information is more diverse than that; and not ultimately destined to rebel against it's creators. I can recall a play through I did of Stellaris as a race of network AI, operating from planetary sized computers; and trying to imagine how such an intelligence would perceive the universe, how it would react to any organic species it encounters etc.
TLDR version: Something better written, and something non-biped for future DLC and sequels.
