How about something like the octospuders from the later Rama books.? I would vote for something like the Scramblers from the novel Blindsight, but they might be a bit too high brow for what Mass Effect is trying to offer.

I guess we will probably have some info on what would the Jardaan in the next DLC/game/dunno what's next. Since the Jardaan seems to have created the Angara, my guess is that they should look a bit like the Angara/have things in common with the Angara.
Other species wise, I guess something that looks a bit like the Sanghelli/Elites in Halo universe could be cool.
A lot of people seems interrested by insectoid aliens. Personnally, it would look too much alike the Rachni and I'm not interrested by that. Seems to be already seen a lot.

I think an insectoid race can be interesting if enough effort is put into the design, like something that gives a bit more of an impression of being a highly advanced race rather than having their intelligence be masked completely behind their completely animal design (which admittedly made the rachni pretty interesting). I'd say something like the prawns, but we already have turians.

Personnally, it would look too much alike the Rachni and I'm not interrested by that. Seems to be already seen a lot. I'm hoping for the opposite actually. There's no rule that says once a species is advanced enough to create another sentient species that the created has to resemble the creator in any form or fashion. Indeed, I would think that such a species would have grown out of such petty vainglories as having to create things in their own image. It's the same line of reasoning why I always roll my eyes when I see a sci-fi setting with the insect aliens flying around in insect-shaped space ships. We humans don't create human-shaped airplanes or cars to fly/drive around in, so why would a bug species? The Elites are pretty cool, though their overall design is rather overdone in general science fiction settings, especially something like Mass Effect. A biped with digitigrade/reverse-jointed legs, with three to four fingered hands, etc. I will give Halo credit for making them feel predatory though; an Elite is certainly more distinct and intimidating than an Angaran is. As for insectioid species, from personal preference I would say that they are popular because of their prolific abundance everywhere on this planet and their accomplishments despite being quite alien in comparison to us. I mean ants have successfully achieved continent-spanning super colonies; containing trillions of individuals with practically zero intra colony conflict; us humans can't even manage that in small countries with only millions of individuals. As for the Rachni in particular, well they were certainly the most 'alien' alien in the setting; all subsequent additions to the species roster has gotten less and less distinct or 'alien' as the series has gone on; so bringing back one that was decidedly non-human would go along way in fixing the human-centric nature of the setting, or at least providing a break from the boring monotony of it (IMO).

I'd say something like the prawns, but we already have turians. It's quite tough to imagine an insectoid alien race without thinking at an already existing one from another movie/game. I'd like something a bit like the Alien/xenomorph, but still, already made and Mass Effect isn't an horror game. Something non-bipedal could be cool. Could be based on a mollusk or crustacean, aquatic species. Some people mentionned earlier an alien with flying capacities seems pretty interresting since we haven't really seen this yet in ME.

Oh yeah I forgot the legs were the same than the Angara/Quarian/Turian/Salarian/everyrace in milky way except the Asari/human... I dunno why Bioware loves those legs sooo much. When I mentionned the elites it was mostly for their predatory design. I really like the four parts mouth, the wierd adavanced head on their body... the fact that they don't look like a human with wider legs or four fingers.

So I was thinking about what type of alien race we should meet next, and struggling a bit to think of somethint interesting that had not been already done in the original trilogy. The best I could come up was an insectoid like race (one of the Xindi sub races from star trek) that vieved mammals as food. Any other suggestions? ,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸-(_MEA_)-,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸
Deja Thoris gets my vote. Graphics novel pics may be NSFW.
I'll take that biped.

I really like the four parts mouth, the wierd adavanced head on their body... the fact that they don't look like a human with wider legs or four fingers. From a technical standpoint: its easy to fit onto a humanoid animation skeleton and still pass as "alien". From a personal viewpoint: it's the easy/lazy way out of trying to create something new and different, but still being able to mark off that "we made an alien" checkbox. And yeah, I really liked the 'split jaw' design, and how their head and mouth combined with their armor evoked the sense of a shark's profile. Too bad Bungie/343 decided to ditch any real exploration of them and the Arbiter as a character after Halo 2.

Baiscally if they let go of the notion of romance able aliens they can do a lot. Infact i will say that we wouldn't have gotten the krogan, Salarian, Rachni or the Turians otherwise. Hell even now the concept of romance able Turians is absolutely stupid, same applies to the Quarians as well. The one race that was designed to have inter species relationships were the Asari and that is evident from their design from day 1.
Its crap like this why i say Romance has become a mistake in their games that it now influences the entire game lore and design instead of being a minor side activity.

I hated that the unofficial tagline for Andromeda by the devs was "Pretty Good Banging"
For a series that initially drew me in because of the distinct aliens, and interesting technology, it's sad that "Who can I sleep with?" is (apparently) more important to the creators than having a nuanced science fiction setting.

They were freaky. Upright or not, freaky. Yep. They were alien. That's what I liked about them. That's why they were freaky. They were so different to us. A new galaxy was/is such an opportunity to get creative in terms of the kind of sentient life we meet. Maybe that'll come in future games, but it feels like opportunities were missed in MEA.

Killiks, the Space Termites were rather meh in SWTOR. To be fair, they were trash mooks in one area of an MMO. Read the books, they're much more interesting. Otherwise, I was thinking of more ideas for a topic like this, I'll come back to it later.

I'd like to run into a species that haven't mastered space travel yet. A civilization like humanity today where the only place we've traveled to is our moon and have just begun to dabble in AI and exploring other planets. Think it would be interesting
