I for one always mourned that Arcanum did not have a spiritual successor in the BioObsi realm, and I do hope that it is either steam punk or post-apocalyptic, rather than Urban Fantasy. I can't wait for the reveal though. My biggest concern it will be human PC only... If they could use mutations/planetouched/elemental bloods or cyber stuff at least... Awww... June, it will be clearer in June.
I can live with it being human PC only, as long as there's plenty of roleplaying opportunity and/or they leverage it as part of the story.
My main concern about the post apocalyptic setting is it would end up like a Fallout game, filled with drab washed out set pieces to fill the landscape. Not that they don't have their own charms, but there's a certain lack of variety in that type of setting. I don't want the bulk of the game to be exploring dark ruins. Show me stuff the new societies have built from scratch, show me some nature overtaking the ruins of the old world.
But HZD provided a good twist on that kind of setting and managed to make the act of exploration and discovering new creatures interesting (Designers HAVE been hyping their creatures now haven't they?). Bioware would need to provide a similar twist on the post-apocalypse setting, I think the post alien invasion idea Hrungr has thrown around could do the trick as long as they avoided being too much like Destiny.
The Ziost Landscape in SWTOR was not without its charm, though I would never want to play another Taris. But, the thing is, post-apocalyptic does not really have to be Taris. The whatever cataclysm that happened might have resulted in unusual chemical reactions, coloring the water and skies into different colors, and it could promoted growth of crystals and tectonic activity resulting in a dramatically colored world of new, fresh and bold colors and sort of an explosive rebirth of vegetation and crazy speedy evolution of surviving natural life, and gods know what else.

Barren landscapes are usually the ones I can't wait to get out of in games, or at least the ones I grow tired of most quickly. I really need it to be broken up with more lively and colorful areas for me to enjoy it.
I'm just hoping for a variety of environments really.

Well that's certainly what they were demonstrating in that very first video of the "Conceptual Prototype". With day/night cycles and weather.

I was reading a bit about the Shadow Realm, and I can see how the premise of the game is not going to work in the gaming environment because people will never be able to play that sort of stuff with complete strangers. So, I am guessing the MP aspect will be more along the line of the more successful MP games that are suitable for pugs that are not a logistic nightmare? It sounds like they committed quite a bit to SR, so chances are they will be reusing some of the ideas from the parking lot? Destiny sounds like a MMO lite, mostly focusing on the end game content and in modular sections rather one huge shared world? I dunno, if they manage to deal with player stratification and on-line hostility (dunno how though) it could be interesting, particularly if a character is your own to make.
Shadow Realm setting sounds too fantasy to me tbh. But then again, Bio managed to sell me on trying a MMO and to going back to play with elves and dwarves...

I hope that the MP is like sword coast or swtor where you can play the story content together, as opposed to just being combat pvp matches like most MP seems to be. Or if it is than just have it be a side thing like it is with DAI and ME3 rather than being the main point.
Main hopes are - character customization - story with choices - good character arcs and relationships with the npcs (party or no)
These are bioware's main qualities, if it has these then I'm liable to enjoy whatever setting they do. Though I'm partial to the idea of steampunk.

That's something I would like to see as well, but that would be a standard Bio game, and they seem to be hinting at something different. I am a bit worried about having to play with others vs choosing to, because of the logistics of it. i always see this falling apart the moment content becomes challenging rather than a faceroll. And it usually necessitates strict gearing hardships to force people to do it many times to ensure you find pugs round the clock doing the same thing. And, yeah, it has to be world-wide too, which is never without a performance price paid by folks in perefireal areas or the martyred and saintly APAC.
So, for these to work, I can only see it as having copious amounts of easy difficulty content that is still rewarding and fun, and as much progressive, for people to build up their premades and go for it... but I dunno. I don't think anyone managed that successfully in the long run. Certainly not BioWare in SWTOR.
Lost my place on the thread. Have I missed anything lately?
Not sure what you last saw when you were here, but these are the tidbits from the last month or so...
Aaryn Flynn aarynflynn Congratulations to @guerrilla on Horizon: Zero Dawn! Making new IP is hard, but so important for our industry. Can't wait to play
AsbjoernSR linkenski Good luck making your new IP. Ppl expect it to be as good as DA or ME.
James @nijamesw did you hear it's not an rpg?
AsbjoernSR linkenski ...Without it, I'm no longer a fan.
Aaryn Flynn aarynflynn Stay tuned
James@nijamesw without character creation and dialogue choice I have no interest.
AsbjoernSRlinkenski BW set itself apart with ARPGs by not competing directly with Uncharted-likes. Without RPG-elements then eh
Aaryn Flynn aarynflynn So what if those were in there?
AsbjoernSRlinkenski Wish someone like BioWare would do multiplayer-focused story campaigns one day

As usual, Hrungr ruins a perfectly good joke by being all "polite" and "helpful".

Looking at the tweets, I think he was responding to the person worrying about it being a totally online experience without much single player story.
A Hero Shooter with offline campaign is my guess xD

I'm guessing they'll reveal more on the E3 but I REALLY REALLY hope for a classic BioWare. Considering it's Edmonton working on it I have my hopes high and it might be better than DAI and MEA.
