They've used "live service" for Sims 4 as well. I've sort of assumed this is gonna be a solely mutliplayer game but I can't remember why I made that assumption.

At this point I'm picturing something that probably still has a strong single player story experience (I don't see why they would give it to Bioware otherwise) but also has a lot of interactions with other players, either through coop activities or maybe some system like the Pawns in Dragon's Dogma that allow players to share assets. That might just be wishful thinking...

Well, I don't know what pawns system is, but having a mentor system built in where high level players get bonuses for taking on low level ones, and a bolster system on story modes is at least a token effort towRds addressing the player stratification which kills all the MP modes where gear/levels/special skills are important.

In Dragon's Dogma, Pawns are player customized companions. You made one yourself and recruited others created by other players to form a party. What I'm getting at (I doubt they would actually replace the fleshed out companions people have come to expect from Bioware games) is that there could be some sort of system that allows players to make some contribution to one another's single player games.

If you could form a group with other char and his companion like in SWTOR, that's fine. Not particularly efficient, but fine.

You can totally play DD offline and only ever hire pawns created in-game. The live component just made the whole experience more fun. It was actually my first semi-serious online experience and I enjoyed it - made the game worth playing, especially that hiring my pawn meant that XP gained by player who hired it was returned to me as in-game currency - I didn't have to buy it via microtransactions, ever. It was also way easier to collect OP sets (gawd, that RNG) with people exchanging pieces. And if I was leveled enough and rich enough, I liked hiring under-leveled pawns and sending them with decent gear and a sack full of rift crystals to lower-level players, or with gifts and advice how to level faster.

People who are familiar with game market or Bioware releases aside - how anticipated do you think the new IP is among average players? Or more like - how aware they are that Bioware is working on something new?

I am pretty impressed they've been able to keep a lid on this one as well as they have though. Other than a tidbit here and there, we still know precious little about it.

Or more like - how aware they are that Bioware is working on something new? Typical players probably aren't even aware BioWare is working on a New IP. There hasn't been a lot of press about it on gaming sites, and only rumors about what the game even is, so I can see it flying under most people's radar.

That might just be wishful thinking... I'm hoping that's the case, but I can see them giving it to BioWare even without it having a lot of singleplayer. Imagine it's 2014. Destiny is coming out and people are crazy about the hype. The most expensive game ever made, even the main stream media pay attention. EA big shots are looking in envy. "We need that too!" "Yes, I've heard Ubisoft is also doing something like that." "So which subsidary should we put on it?" "How about BioWare? Technically it's still a RPG and the BioWare brand is a great quality seal." "Aren't they making something called Shadow Realms?" "We can just cancel that." "But they might not enjoy creating a game that's all about grinding and microtransactions..." "Ha, guess who's calling the shots. WE DO !"

"Ha, guess who's calling the shots. WE DO !" Heh, maybe. Then again, EA has to be aware that lacking an engaging single player story is one of the chief things Destiny was criticized for, so my thinking is that they probably gave it to Bioware specifically because they knew they could beat the competition by going for story.

Does the "seamless MP component" of Cyberpunk 2077 fit with the "disruptive live service" being talked about here?
I mean, I guess we don't really know what CDPR are talking about when they say "seamless" beyond a guess that you don't need to click on a separate menu item to enter a MP area. Which would indicate some kind of "persistent" part of the game world which is "always on"/always accessible (i.e. don't need to wait for players to be available - that sort of thing).

According to Kotaku - the story behind the code-name "Dylan"...kotaku.com/the-story-behind-mass-effect-andromedas-troubled-five-1795886428"Casey Hudson, executive producer on the main trilogy, would start a new team at BioWare Edmonton to work on a brand new intellectual property, which they gave the code-name Dylan. (That new IP’s code-name, a source said, came because Hudson and team wanted to make the Bob Dylan of video games—one that would be referenced for years to come.)"

Year 2029 - after their latest game gets destroyed by critics and fans alike, two of the game's developers try to console each other with "well, at least we didn't pull a Dylan..."

We'll probably see a teaser at E3, but again this is an EA press event. You won't get Aarynn Flynn on stage for 30 minutes, like Todd Howard did for Fallout 4. It will be a quick introduction on what they've been working on, and a trailer. Also Andrew Wilson, EA Ceo and satan, will say something like "From our storytellers over at Bioware. A new immersive EXPERIENCE" the usual buzzwords. That is the cynic in me, but after having watched E3 for about 10 years, its a well known pattern now.

Honestly a title, genre, and a few details about what form this live service is supposed to take would go a long way.

When they first started talking about the game being delayed, I wondered if we'd see anything EA Play. Right now we're looking at a game that's ~1 yr away... or more. Does it make sense to reveal the game so far out? I thought maybe the Awards Show might be a better time for the reveal. But I think there's a good chance we'll see something at EA Play anyway, if for no other reason that to turn the media's (largely negative) attention away from MEA.
