Think Destiny or Division.

You can play with other people in an open world area or missions as well as run off solo with minimal or zero contact with other players.

Usually there's at least 1 primary hub where players hang out.

Sounds like Destiny but on one planet. It's not the worst idea. To me most of the current planet hopping games squandered the whole idea of planets being vast ecosystems with varying climates.

Destiny has instanced shared zones for multiple (20+) players, and missions for 3 player squads within them.

Not a bad formula, but both games have flaws for sure.

Mainly in the story narrative.

Where it was non existent in The Division but I heard Destiny got much better at it.

Destiny is not Star Wars. Mass Effect is closer to Star Wars than Destiny in some ways.

But in Destiny mankind has been forced to hide behind the massive walls of a single last city, with the players acting as the Guardians of the city combatting threats... sound familiar to the trailer? It also has the sort of live services we're speculating will be in the game.
