Do you mean freely choose 1st or 3rd at all times, or always 3rd person if you want to be? And why would you want to talk to NPCs in 3rd person?
I would want the option to have it always be in 3rd person as well (as in other Bioware games). I feel very disconnected if I can't see the pc. I usually only buy 3rd person games.

At the very least always having an option for 3rd person.
I personally hate the first person camera, just on principle. I find it absolutely useless, restricting and stupid. However, I noticed one thing during the Microsoft conference: each time they showed something that was in first person I got the strongest motion sickness that I've ever had in my life. I got so dizzy I had to look away from the screen within 30 seconds. Metro almost made me rush to the closest bucket or toilet. I think it's because the really smooth 60fps movement that lacks feedback, like for VR. I don't have this problem with the 3rd person camera, since the field of view is wide and the camera doesn't bounce around like you have a GoPro on your head. I'm not gonna make myself sick just to play a game.
Or the more action-heavy "streamlined" combat system? Especially after DAO was a "get back to our roots" style RPG?
DAMP, yes, you're right, I forgot about that.
Action-heavy combat system I think was going to happen regardless, to broaden the base of the market. And I admit, following that logic to it's conclusion, there may be pressure to be more Anthem-like for the same reason.
Great, now you made me a little more concerned. Though, as was noted above, the influence might not be all that bad. I mean, wouldn't you want to be able to do swimming and underwater exploration DA4?
Also the voiced protagonist with more restricted dialogue options because of said voicing. DA2 had that implemented because of Mass Effect.

Anthem @anthemgamehub Will you be playing #AnthemGame Solo, or with a Squad? Let's us know below & retweet for science.
If I play it....solo.

This is my biggest worry too, I can't even watch first person gameplay, hell, I even have issues with some third person games (I'm looking at you Fallout 4).
I did tweet the Anthem account and ask if we'll be stuck in first person when not wearing suits but I've yet to receive a reply.
There's no way I'm going to spend money on making myself sick if we don't have that option.

You know, I think they might go for first person in the hub because it lets them design spaces more tightly.
In third person games, a lot of spaces need to be large in order to accommodate the wider view of the camera, a space like the bazaar we saw wouldn't really work as well.
The other worrying possibility is that they want to do most cinematics and conversations in first person in order to cut down on the cost of animating a customizable character's face.

Cinematics too? Eurgh
Honestly, I feel queasy just thinking about it...
But I guess if it's not for me then it's not for me.. for the first time ever.

I'm actually okay with first person games generally, but I want a CC and if there's a CC I want to be able to actually look at my character's face in cutscenes.

Well... we do know of at least a moment in a cutscene where we see character's face, so CC and seeing PC's face is not ruled out.

The thing that game developers apparently don't realize is that first person camera movement is unnatural. Your brain knows how to compensate for images when you look at something from different angles, like when you run or turn your head fast or anything that involves a lot of movement. It's why you don't get motion sickness when running. What causes dizzyness most of the time is the fluid in your inner ear still moving about or just an inner ear condition you might have been born with or developed because of some sickness.
First person camera movements are more akin to a person with no control over their limbs trying to record something and spazzing all over the place. Also, the lack of physical feedback is a real problem, it's why I always dread putting on a VR headset.

I've never put on a VR headset and not sure I ever want to.. for that reason.
I might try tweeting one of the dev's at some point with the question, I don't know who would be the best option yet though. The sooner I know, the sooner I can either continue following development with interest or dropout and stop wasting my time. Perhaps more questions will be answered after E3.

I'd like to point out (politely) on Twitter that courtesy of Hrungr, we've been discussing this game for over 10 months...

Mohamed saleh @mizo136 Will anthem have offline single player??
Corey Gaspur @cgaspur That type of detailed information will come sooner to launch. The SP experience is very important to us. Sorry for the delay in response.
I'm kinda surprised he just didn't say "no offline, but solo is possible" to that question. hmm.
It's most likely you can play solo withoutteaming up but you may require an online connection at all times.

Well... not just me, but thanks!
Before I saw the gameplay demo I almost certain this game wouldn't be for me. But kudos to BioWare for that impressive showing and somehow swinging my opinion around 180°.
Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, gave Eurogamer the following quote:
I've been pretty open about, I'm not a fan of doing deals that hold back specific pieces of content from other platforms. You don't see that in the deals we've done with Assassin's and Shadow. We'll have a marketing deal on those, but I don't say, hey, I need some kind of Strike or skin somebody else can't play.
I don't think it's good for our industry if we got into a point where people are holding back the technical innovation of game developers based on a marketing deal.

The game being soloable have already been confirmed (once in an interview, once on twitter by that person). If the game had no chance of having an "offline" option he would have mentioned as such. That's not something that you hide.
