MEA takes me back to ME1, where I played Sheploo because I wasn't ever satisfied with the CC. The CC got better in ME2 and ME3, though.

I just got this game yesterday, and I'm finding the CC to be terrible. With ME1 I made some decent looking Shepards, but I'm struggling to do the same with Ryder. It's definitely a huge learning curve from DAI.

I was looking through all the exports here: masseffectarchives.com/en_US/heroes/mea#What was really shocking and kind of sad is that so many of them look basically the same. I kept hitting the load more option hoping to see some that are more original looking, but alas, with the limitation of the CC and preset heads determining the shape of everything from eyes to face, in the end, you really only have the exact number of presets. Ultimately they will all look exactly the same with some minor changes. Yes. There are only so many presets and many are ugly in my opinion. For FemRyder you see alot of preset 9 which has the only decent eyebrows. I've made ok FemRyders from preset 5 and 9 (twice). The last one I actually just adjusted one from the archives since that is way easier. Also weird is if you use female preset 9 your dad and mom are black and look nothing like you. I guess dad ryder goes by default preset because even when both of the twins are changed if you have femryder #9 to start your dad is black and maybe chinese?

Your father's preset is always taken after your chosen preset's number. So if you chose Female Preset 9, then your father will be made after Male's preset 9, just older. If you pick female preset 5, then your father will be taken from male preset 5 and so on. That's because the numbers seem to match family, though it's weird to me. Male and female preset 9 don't seem like siblings to me. Some of them kind of do, like presets number 2, but others? Not really, but maybe I'm just bad at seeing resemblence between two genders

I guess dad ryder goes by default preset because even when both of the twins are changed if you have femryder #9 to start your dad is black and maybe chinese? I don't know why the hell they didn't match the skin tone of your ryder to like 1 shade either way just for realism, but I think that is symbolic of how they have an idea and it is a good idea but the execution totally fails because they lack the imagination to actually test it beyond their little world view. Here, clearly they imagined everyone who was black would choose that head and everyone who was caucasian would choose that head and so on. If they even tested their own CC trying to make some unique and different faces, they would see what happened and in like five minutes would have figured out a fix.

Ultimately they will all look exactly the same with some minor changes. Are you actually importing them, or just looking at those little thumbnails? The thumbnails are generic compilations of a couple of options. My Sara looks a lot like many others, if you go off of the thumbnails. The thing is, she looks nothing like the thumbnail. Importing those other "look-alikes"reveals how vastly different they really are. I'm not claiming that this CC is the greatest ever; but it's not producing any more limited Ryders than I saw out of the OT and Shepard. 90% of FemSheps were based upon Face Shape 7. The one thing that this CC can do is create incredibly lifelike characters, if the player doesn't go crazy with the hair color, makeup, etc...

I just wish I could edit the ryder presets. Male ryder just looks the least weird compared to the other male presets but I'd like to tweak him a bit for future playthrougs. Sara just looks too strange for me to want to play her, she looks really bad in game in certain lighting but I bet it could be fixed with some tweaks. Can't stand her hair either so I'd want to tweak that.
I also wish that the beards were better so I could actually use a beard to make the character look less like kids without it looking painted on and weird.

Ryder's variety is almost inexistant...expecially females, all have the same hairstyles too... It was a problem I had seen in Inquisition too, but the variety of faces possible made up for it, and the characters players came up with where incredible! from super strange, to almost scary by how similar were to certain actors! Every time I have the wish to buy the game, I just look at the gallery: the variety is almost inexistant, and I'm reminded of how bad is the CC and I'm not tempted anymore.

I am quite satisfied with CC. Both my Ryders are attractive, and very different, and I don't really care what other people's Ryder's look like, 'cause it's not a MMO. After I installed the modding editor, I can now fix up the skin on all the presets, and swap the eyebrows, so it really expands the amount of heads I can start from, because it was the quality of skin that really made some of the most attractive presets unavailable for the males. Swapping brows adds a touch of variety as well. TBH, I find the Inquisition's CC way more restrictive, as ethnic variety was non-existent, and most characters came out ugly. The eyelashes and hair were way worse. Sure, you could mod there as well, but it crushed Trespasser.

Was their scanner broken for female Ryder when they scanned the person she is based on?
Because source & end result look nothing alike!

Yeah, it's sad. My female human Inquisitor is quite original, I don't often see any that look like her. My Ryder on the other hand has a lot of doppelgangers hanging around the internet.

Yeah, it's sad. My female human Inquisitor is quite original, I don't often see any that look like her. My Ryder on the other hand has a lot of doppelgangers hanging around the internet. And my female human Inquisitor remained unplayed because I could not really make her to look anything like I wanted her to look like.
Behold! My Asian Inquisitor! Yeah, like totally... And look at that skin sheen! And those plastered eyelashes, not to mention the hair. How awesome is that! Ouch.
Now, my Asian Ryder... few minutes in CC, and she looks JUST like what I wanted! No perma-sweat, brows are where brows should be, eyelashes look like eyelashes, and way better textures.
Then, I decided to make a black character, and voila! Also no problems!
That's why I like it... I get what I want, and it looks rather good. The quality is higher, and the faces look nicer, not so artificial.

People seem to avoid the short hair on the preset I favor, and tend to use more makeup. Hooray, mine is plain AF and that's the way I likes it. There is more weirdos like you out there than you realize. Mine: I honestly usually don't like that preset yet the hair you chose makes me feel better about it.

Another proof that BioWare is lazy and basically lied about difficulties with CC because of face scans. A new mod came out that allows you to use default Sara's skin texture for all the other presets. Link: www.nexusmods.com/masseffectandromeda/mods/133/?Look how big of a change it makes! Especially since (I think) it contains default Sara's brows. Which means that brows are part of the face texture in all presets (they are literally painted on the face texture). If that's the case, then adding "complexion" slider with lots of different face textures would allow players to customize characters much more. Now the question is - why we didn't get the ability to use default Sara's face texture from the start? Same for the skin tones. They said that pale skin tones were looking bad with the textures. So why not allow to switch face textures between presets? This mod proves that it works. Maybe we'll get more mods like that, so we can mix and match skin textures between presets. Huh the eyebrow thing would explain Peebee's eyebrows. Her face is unique for an asari.

Let's hope they fix the cc enough to maker it at least as good as the mods do. Otherwise, the kind folks at the Modding community will help us all out! (Face it, they love the challenge)
