I'm an idiot to be bothered by something like this, but I just realy bugs me.
Honestly Pharias should have a tough purple barrier and like in ME2 and 3 a fairly weak regular health bar. Also now that I think about it Agents would make much more sense with strong shields (armored Salarians seem kinda silly).

Do you mean Pariahs? That's all I can think to add.

That's actually a good point. I don't think there are Barriers in the game as a healthbar element, just Shields.

Only Ryder is allowed to have a barrier. Alex owned the patent.

There are no more barriers, and armour is just a different colour health, as opposed to an additional bar on top of health.
This ain't no ME2-3.

It seems armor and shields are less common in both MP and SP. The plus side is that biotics like throw, pull, and singularity are more powerful. The minus is that it isn't as fun being tactical.

there are no more barriers, which sucks asari have barrier instead of shield another dumbed down element The difference, while maybe fun for gameplay, really made no sense. A shield is a technologically generated kinetic barrier. A Biotic barrier is a kinetic barrier generated by a biotic lifeform. Each is created by running electrical current through eezo, creating a mass effect field. They're exactly the same thing. The only difference is the location of the eezo. Is it in a person or thing? I'd say that someone "wised-up", rather than calling this "dumbed-down".

In ME2 and 3 barriers were vunerable to biotics and relatively resistand against other things while shields were (obviously) vunarable to electrical stuff. Now they just gave everyone a yellow health bar so they can't be affected by biotics. It seems lazy. Back in ME2 enemies could have up to 3 layers of health, shield/barrier, armor and finally a regular health bar. Krogan and Vorcha would even regenerate armor when they entered rage. Harbinger in ME2 could be a tough b*tch if you didn't have warp. A Revenant unleashing a barrage of warp-ammo was pretty much op. The barrier was always a nice addition of variety so I realy don't get why they removed it.

The difference is actually bigger than that. Uptime of kinetic barriers is pretty low, because it's only raised to deflect incoming bullets, hence rapid fire was more effective against it, raising uptime dramatically. Organic brains however can't have such reaction and would have to keep shields raised all the time, which is exhausting as hell, but I could deal with it because it's obviously done for the sake of gameplay.
