If anyone has an idea how to stop the crust getting attached to the mold, please let me know. Just to be sure, you are using bread crumbs, right? First you butter the cake pan, then sprinkle it with bread crumbs. The instruction I read said that I should not coat it with flour or bread crumps because that would result in a burned crust - I am confused!

Today I baked a cranberry cake, and while it tastes absolutely delicious the crust got stuck in the mold. AGAIN. I never manage to bake a proper looking cake, the crust always gets stuck no matter what I do. I coated the mold with butter super carefully but it did not make a difference. If anyone has an idea how to stop the crust getting attached to the mold, please let me know. Also I did a cycling stint on my stationary bike and I did 350 watts for 30 minutes. I don't want to boast but that's far and beyond what most people can do. The bike got really hot where the friction brake sits, I could even smell it. And I don't even train endurance that much, I lift weights a lot more frequently than my cardio sessions. ha ve you tried using a non-stick spring-form cake pan?

Had a nice morning short hike then went and sat on my favourite park bench over looking the river, not many people go by there. I'll often snack on some grapes or cherries and a small bottle of water after the hike and do a bit of reading while relaxing on the park bench.
Was very happy and quite surprised to look up from my book and see two huge Pelicans floating down the river. Do not often see Pelicans on the river.

I can only speak from my limited experience, and watching a lot of food tv.
Well greased pan, then lightly dusted with flour and shake off excess. This flour will get toasted, but not burnt really as there is too little there to get nasty. When I last baked (lemon poppyseed cake) this method worked well for me. My mistake was not cutting the tops off my cakes and stacking them like that, made the icing uneven af. Not my brightest moment.

I intended to have a nice long walk. It was great for a while, but then wind caused a branch of a tree (or very large bush) to drop two feet right onto my head as I was briskly passing under. Hooked thorns bit deeply into my scalp and forehead and brought my forward momentum to a violent stop.
I aborted my walk and took the shortest path home, where I washed off the blood and tried to treat the wounds with first alcohol and then T-tree oil, to, if possible, stop any infections.

Well, look at that, flour did the trick. Plus letting it cool down for half an hour. I greased the pan with butter and coated it very generously with flour, I left no spot uncoated. BAM! Bundt cake achievement unlocked!

The instruction I read said that I should not coat it with flour or bread crumps because that would result in a burned crust - I am confused! It might have something to do with the type of cake you're making. All cakes I do are variations of sponge cake. I treat classic recipes with a fair amount of contempt, particularly how to add the flour. (Which is far easier and less critical than they make it sound. But there is a point where you must stop mixing and quickly get it into the pan.) But I'm very thorough about whipping the eggs and sugar. I do it by hand and I do it forever. The butter I add is melted but fairly cold. Aluminum pan, smear inside with cold butter. Rubber spatula is perfect for this. Then breadcrumbs. I buy readymade breadcrumbs, and these are more like biscuit crumbs but I don't think it matters. They will stick beautifully to the butter if you sprinkle it on carefully. If too much, it may fall off and take the butter along. That's all it takes. To me, it sounds wrong with only butter. The breadcrumbs becomes part of the cake and weakens the surface layer so it can't adhere to the pan. Always works for me. Also, preheat the oven thoroughly! Well in advance! And aluminum pan!

Did you go down the dark path of icing for that? Or soak it with rum?

The butter I add is melted but fairly cold. Oh yes, the butter part is so important! I let it sit at room temperature for two hours to make it soft. I also mix it forever, it seems that mixing the dough super long not only makes those pesky butter clumps disappear but it also gets air into it which will make it fluffier and softer. Totally pays off. I also pre heat all the time, I am very anal about pre-heating no matter if its cake, chicken or fish! That's a beaute, Beetle! Did you go down the dark path of icing for that? Or soak it with rum? Thank you! I just wanted to get it out of the pan in one piece this time, baby steps! Next time I will mix the dough with some cocoa and try to give it chocolate icing. But icing is its own little thing and I'm sure I will need several attempts to get it perfectly right. But if it were easy it would not be interesting.

Bundt cake achievement unlocked! Congrats, looks great! That's what I use, and I've never had a sticking problem. Indeed, my cakes fail for other reasons. It is a dark path for sure, some would consider to be unnatural.. But icing is its own little thing I happen to be in the market for a good icing recipe. If you find one, please share.

Well, there's always Carrot Cake Icing (no, it's not just because I'm a rabbit ) It's basically butter, icing sugar, vanilla and Philly Cream Cheese....that's it.

I think the hazy/milky sugar glaze is what goes on these traditionally, or chocolate. Heavier frosting would hide the beautiful perfection of the shape of that good bake :nono:
Basic glaze icing is actually easy, not "easy as pie" which I have never understood. Anyways, it's just confectioners sugar and hot water stirred together with a little oil. Think 4:1 sugar to hot water, tablespoon or so of oil for a 2 cup of sugar batch. Add vanilla extract, orange extract, etc if you like for a kick of flavor. I put the sugar in the bowl, boil the water, add the oil to the water stir it up and slowly mix water into sugar until the consistency is right. Best results when piped on, a ziploc baggy with a cut corner can do this if you don't have one.

I just beat up my washing machine, and I beat it up good. It was acting up AGAIN, not pumping out the water so I took out the pump and disassembled it. Left a whole nasty wet mess in my boiler room, but whatever. I had to lift the washing machine on a chair several times to get to that pump and get out the water, and that thing weighs 90 kilos, and that's without the 30 liters of water and laundry still trapped inside it. There was some stuff in the pump, so I cleaned it and put it back in. And you know what? It still did not pump out the water!!! There was no reason for it not to work so I lost my temper a little and gave it a few good punches and a knee punch that sent it sliding across the room. The best part is, after that it suddenly worked! It now makes a few extra noises but I don't question it because it works, and the metal frame has a few dents too but that thing has always been ugly anyway, so that's only an improvement. Reminds me of a saying - If force does not work you are not using enough force. My knuckles gonna be blue tomorrow though. But that's the price of repairing household appliances I guess.

My dryer has been making grinding noises for a long time now, will probably catch on fire sooner or later.
What I need to do is buy a new Dryer and a new fridge.
The problem I have is my existing fridge is a bit smaller than most standard fridges height wise. Thus a new fridge will not fit under the high cupboard in the kitchens so I have to put the fridge in another location (not ideal) or knock out two perfectly good cupboards (no ideal).

My dryer has been making grinding noises for a long time now, will probably catch on fire sooner or later. Those appliances are no joke if they are damaged, there is a lot of power running through them - up to 2500 watts! I once had a washing machine that made funny buzzing noises, but since it worked fine I did not question it. One day I turned it on and turned the lights off and then I realized what made those buzzing sounds. The electric engine spinning the drum threw blue sparks making one hell of a lightshow in the dark room. Thats the kind of stuff that burns houses down.

I bought blackout curtains yesterday. They do not do as advertised, in actuality they are quite translucent. This was disappointing. So now, gotta swap em or just return them, and I cannot find the receipt. Oh bother. Need to replace the refrigerator water filter, and it's probably time to replace the HVAC filter too. The lawn needs mowing, although it really needs to turn into a garden. Probably should think about making some money to pay for all this stuff too... but that sounds like work

It's 34 Celcius here, feeling like 42 Celcius; I've spent the large part of the day inside my AC'd house....Even had to take a nap to ward off the piercing tinnitus in my ears, but suffice to say I have had a rather unproductive and uneventful day.

Two straight days of a good bike ride around the park. Then sat at my fav bench by the river and read a bit. Was happy to see a Common Merganser Duck and a rare sighting of a Bald Eagle. Bald Eagles of themselves are not rare in Alberta but seeing one in the city is.
I then made myself a nice chicken sammich on marble rye and then booked my Pfizer covid booster shot for this Friday.
I will mow the lawn this afternoon and do a bit of woodwork sanding.

Yesterday was a good day. I intended to cut a hike short, but didn't. It lasted for about 3 hours instead. The thong rumps were at it again on the beach volley courts. (I just passed, so it wasn't the 3 hours.) I watered my hedge.
Today, nothing much happened. Like a fool I had started a Heart of Iron game as USA. I think I should have watered the hedge today too. Didn't. I'll look into it tomorrow.
