My water heater broke a few days ago, that's definitely something I cannot fix myself for once so I have to wait for the specialists to take a look at it. No idea what the problem is. One result of that problem is that I have to shower with 5Β° Celsius cold water, which is not so bad and I am getting used to very quickly but I definitely miss my blisteringly hot showers, I love them.

Harumph.....made a mistake this past winter. I brought my half used wood stains into the house so they would not freeze but I just left them sitting there for like 6 months, now i find that at least two of them have become solid or had a thick skin on them. They are no longer any good, I guess i needed to stir them or something occasionally so this would not happen, I'll have to google it. Lesson learned.

Gas tight lids and protect from light, and don't drip any water into a urethane can.

Weird, I've never had wood stain go bad on me, I have a couple bottles in my closet that are now close to 10 years old and they still work fine. They are Aqua Clou B11 stain (not water-soluble). I use that stuff to stain walnut rifle stocks, it resists water and I highly recommend it. But then again I've never stored that stuff below room temperatures BTW - Are you sure its just stain and not a combination of stain AND varnish? I have pure linseed oil varnish to protect the wood from moisture and cracking and once exposed to air it will thicken and eventually crystallize and turn solid in a year or so - exactly what it is supposed to do once you apply it to wood. If its linseed oil can heat it up (CAREFULLY) and try to make it liquid again - that's also how you get out old hardened varnish from rifle stocks (with a hair dryer or putting them in black plastic bags and expose them to the summer sun, the oil turns liquid again and sweats out of the stock)

I didn't lose a lot of the stain probably half a medium sized can but it was just annoying that when I needed it the other day it had gone bad.
This is the brand I normally use: I usually have some light stains, some dark stains and some gun stock or cherry wood reddish stains.

I had a bad day. My desktop computer decided to stop working. It started with a bluescreen message about pagefault in a non-paged area, and assured it would restart the computer as soon as it had compiled and sent an error report. However, the progress count stayed on 0% forever, and eventually I hard-reset the computer (nothing else worked). New bluescreen, "repairing...", "diagnosing...", but Windows 10 could not be restarted, no matter what I did. BIOS did autodetect and recognize the C: drive (a SSD), but the X:32system which ran the debugging did not, while it did find and read a couple of HD drives. But it also didn't find my biggest drive, which I suppose can have something to do with the filesystem? It was so long ago I built this computer I remember very little. The biggest drive is newer though. Still don't remember. ...But, does not that X:32system that runs things between BIOS and Windows, reside on C:\ ? So I could also not reinstall Windows from either Cloud or local. Problem not specified. Efforts to get hold of Microsoft support ended with mockery: "Thank you for calling Microsoft." Not even a "Have a nice day." So I downloaded a tool from MS and will try that tomorrow (to no avail, I strongly suspect), and I ordered a new SSD, because I figured I can do with a bigger anyway. Problem will be installing Windows 10 on it. I hope that same tool will work, but somehow I kinda doubt it. Oh well. I also figured It's about time to build a new desktop, so I looked at towers. ...And found none that suits my needs. Heavy monsters full of bling and lights, glass sides, solid front without access to drives or card readers (or even on-button?), and only two 3Β½ bays, if any.

It contains a Urethane type binder. While the solvent will evaporate normally, accounting for some drying, I'm guessing it "dries" faster and better in high humidity? The solvent has no effect on the polymerized binder, or even partially polymerized binder (thickening). Make sure brushes and other utensils that you dip are not moist with water.

Sometimes a HDD crash can crash your entire system, but it usually repairs itself after you remove the faulty drive. No worries. Everything is recognized and readable now. Windows can't start though and can't be repair-installed or reinstalled. I don't know why not, the software doesn't give me any details, only tells me the attempt fails and suggests something else that then also fails. However, my response will be nuke. I intend to create a complete Windows 10 install media on an USB, replace my old C:\ SSD with a new larger, and install Win 10 again. Should work. According to what I read on Microsoft, I should also be able to install my old Win 7 (this PC started it's life as a Win7) and then upgrade to 10, but why complicate things? It depends, I guess, if my Win7 license works for a direct install of Win10.

Windows can't start though and can't be repair-installed or reinstalled. That's usually due to a hardware failure. It may not work, but at least you'll know that something is fried. if my Win7 license works for a direct install of Win10 It used to work, but I don't know what the situation is now.

According to Microsoft pages, my Win7 Home Premium license is one of those that are eligible for the last, full Win 10 install, so should work.
My old SSD seems readable, but doesn't boot Windows and will not re-install Windows. I can only assume there is something wrong with the filesystem and roots of things. I dunno. Doesn't matter anyway, because even if I could reinstall, I would still have to reinstall all applications. I can save and keep all data though, so in the end not much is lost. On the contrary it might be nice to get rid of a lot of crap, start all over again.
And also, I need a bigger SSD anyway. That will be nice as well. Today I've made a bootable Win10 install USB. Hope it works, and hope the new SSD arrives tomorrow.
I have started to think about building a new PC though. I used to build a new PC every 3 years. That was about the right interval. But suddenly I didn't need to anymore. My current desktop is like 12-14 years old, I don't know exactly. It's still a nice, capable computer, 16TB, 6-core PhenomII, 16GB RAM, some big double place Sapphire Radeon HD6970 highend gaming card. Old, but still decent if you crank down anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering and soft shadows somewhat, which you can do without much discernable drop in image quality.
But now there will be a new, but I'll keep the current anyway.

I now have a new Windows 10 on a new SSD on my desktop computer, and am currently accessing from that. ...And while it was never a slug, it's now mysteriously vapor fast, <zap> <swish< Much work remains, but sofar it was incredibly easy and fast. Modern Windows is incredibly automatized.

Tomorrow the garbage truck is going to collect all the trash from the bins (I live in a rural area and the truck only comes once in a month) so I gathered all the trash I could find to fill the bin to the absolute max. Problem is this month I got way too much trash for some reason and they are not allowed to collect loose trash bags.- So I took all the extra trash bags and one after another I beat them into the trash bin with my 7 kilo sledge hammer. The trash in the bin is basically compressed to a giant brick and the lid even closes! I love efficiency. I just hope my neighbors did not see me.

Definitely not trying to convince you here, and I only upgraded to 11 by accident (my PC hung briefly on boot and I clicked the mouse which just happened to be above 'get Windows 11', I guess and it started downloading). But I have had zero issues with performance and no complaints about ease of use or anything else. It looks nice, there are some interesting apps bundled with it. Put it this way, there were more teething issues with 7 and 8/8.1 than there were with 11. 10 was flawless, at least initially, and 11 has been a very easy transition from that.

So I didn't get Photoshop to run again,.. yet. My old install was 2021 which I kept because it was the last version (I'm a subscriber to Adobe) to work without some .dll trickery. Unfortunately 2021 is no longer available, at least not directly, so the oldest version I could get was 2022. Now I seem to remember that I did get 2022 to work with said .dll trickery (12 year old AMD processor need alternative libraries to run code which is unsupported, like SSE4), so I should manage it again. The problem was that Adobe wrote over my .dlls every time they updated, and I got tired of that so restricted myself to 2021. Anyway, now I must get later versions to work and keep working. I'll continue tomorrow.
