Haven't been able to sleep well for over a week now because I had to adjust my sleeping position to sleeping on my back only. I have wide shoulders and weigh a lot - if I sleep on my side I always get shoulder impingement as my shoulder takes the whole weight. It just got really bad lately. Now I wake up all the time because I want to turn on my side and I cannot. I'm so tired.

^ I still suspect you have some sleep apnea. You have all the symptoms. Talk to a doctor. They'll strap some instruments to your body, to have while sleeping. The readings will confirm it or dismiss it. After that, it's either surgery - though my understanding is that surgery is not a lasting solution and because of that and the trouble is no longer preferred -, or instead you'll have to sleep with a kind of ventilator. While that may seem awful at first, the first night of blissful, resting sleep and fresh morning is going to completely change your mind about that. Promise. Yesterday, I switched the blade cartridge of my Wilkinson Sword razor. It was many months since I last did that. The reason they last so long is not that it's Wilkinson Sword (though I do like them), Gillette would have lasted as long, or almost, but the fact that I use hard shaving soap and a shaving brush. It makes a hell of a difference to all aspects of shaving. So much that I don't understand why people use shaving gels or canned shaving foam. Those clog up your razor, make your blades dull in a week, and gives you various forms of rash and skin problems. It's stupidity on par with using ballpoint pens.

It's stupidity on par with using ballpoint pens. Oh oh this so much! Shaving cream is so aggressive it turns my skin red and if I get any in my nose I immediately get a nose bleed. And that alcohol in it the dumbest thing ever, not only does it worsen some of the tiny shaving injuries it also dries the skin. Why would anyone want that? It makes no sense! I use very mild soap and warm water - I rub my stubbles with warm water for a minute, apply some soap and then shave. Afterwards I wash my face with cold water to get rid of the soap and to close the pores and then I apply mild lotion. Done! No pimples, no pain, no rashes, nothing, just smooth skin. As for my day - today I got called a breeding bull. I'm not entirely sure if that was a compliment, in any case it was one of the weirder things I got called....

RE: Shaving^^
I generally use an electric razor or trimmer and keep somewhere between a 5oclock-shadow and a short-trimmed beard all the time now.
Up until my late 20's I'd use a standard razor+cream but now I actually prefer not to shave with any cream at all. I'll use a disposable bic (or two) if I need to. Haven't used shaving cream in several years now, almost a decade.
My buddy tried to sell me on the old blade n strop with brush combo but I actually prefer the dry bic now. My ex was equally fascinated and aghast watching me shave like that. She was the opposite and did everything under the sun to make shaving easier/more comfortable.

Gotta love getting products from Amazon and there being absolutely no instructions with them. It's like, you have never used or seen this product in use before but I'm sure you can figure it out. First product I found a small youtube bit that showed me so now I am off to try and find a youtube on how to use this 2nd product.

What magical contraptions did you buy? The first believe it or not was clip on sunglasses for my regular glasses. The ones I currently have kind of have a spring and you pull them and then they clip on you glasses. The kind bought have these pincer kind of things and you have to press in just the right spot to open the pincers, which is not totally obvious by looking at or examining them.
The second item was a couple of little cheap fiber optic strand lamps that I am thinking of incorporating into a log to make a fiber optic log lamp. There are the to little lamps two remote controls and the lamps take batteries seemingly but no instructions at all.

My ex was equally fascinated and aghast watching me shave like that. She was the opposite and did everything under the sun to make shaving easier/more comfortable. The mistake you're all doing, is you don't try genuine, old-fashioned, hard 'shaving soap' and shaving brush, the stuff professional barbers use. It's rare stuff, but it's still easy to obtain by online mail order. I'll not recommend any particular, I've never used anyone that wasn't good. If you can find it, the one that King Charles use, and his father before him, D.R. Harris & Co, it's awesome, but there are many good brands, classic too, like Tabac. Palmolive have unfortunately stopped making theirs, it was absolute topnotch stuff and more "affordable" than most brands. It doesn't matter if you buy a bowl soap or a stick soap. You should treat and use them both as stick soap. You don't need a bowl. You wrap up the bowl soap tightly in aluminum foil and tear off to expose one edge. You wet your face with the brush, then drag around the dry soap across your face a few times. It goes very quickly to depose enough soap. Then work your face with the wet brush until you have a thick, creamy lather. That's also quickly done. Now shave. Wash afterwards with water. Also, if stick soap comes wrapped in aluminum foil, as 'refill', you don't need any tube or holder. It's cleaner, drier and easier to just deal with the soap in aluminum wrapping. You will notice a few things: The razor will be easily rinsed under the faucet. No clogging. The blade stays sharp forever. So much so that it's difficult to judge when it's time to change. You'll need a shaving brush. There are three different kinds. The most expensive is Badger. Personally, I think they're too soft. Then there is hog bristle. I've mostly used that and I suppose that's my favorite. I say suppose, because the last six years or so I've used a synthetic brush. It was so superb manufacturing quality and good looks I couldn't resist it. But it takes like 2-3 years of use for a synthetic brush to become 'good'. When it's new it tends to unload all the water it holds in one go. Anyway, it doesn't appear to matter much. I've never used a bad brush, whatever kind. The synthetic will probably last you for life. Don't get a bowl, and don't use a bowl soap as a bowl soap. It's messy, takes a lot of time and frankly quickly also becomes a bit yucky. Treat it as a stick instead. P.S. I think Bic razors are awful. (And shaving with just water and Bic razor, been there done that.)

P.S. I think Bic razors are awful. Now imagine doing that without cream or water. And somehow I've grown to like it.
That said I prefer the ease of my electric. No muss no fuss. My mornings already are starting to take longer as my hair starts to get longer again. Down past my ears now, longest it's been since I was around 22-23ish. It has been commented to me many times from the fairer sex that I look good with a bit of scruff; I agree with em.

Good topic, for me having a good shave is usually related to how hydrated my face is with hot water to open the pores.
I usually use cheap disposable razors and gel and get mixed results. I have used soap before and it worked pretty well. Because of this topic during my shower this eve I used soap instead of the gel and got far superior shave. I'll be going with soap from now on instead of shaving gel.

HoI4: I have successfully liberated most of France from their communist masters. Soviet is now probably going to move troops to help their commie lackeys, but that will only give the Chinese - who I have Lend-Lease supported to a pretty good position - better options. They've taken a huge chunk of territory back and then some extra. And in France, my modern armor divisions and jet planes will await the Soviets. I'd like to consider this game finished, but I suppose I'll see the new situation unfold to end, total capitulation of communist part of France.

So, some weeks back I got this amazing, flowery, fruity, aromatic fruit drink. The taste was so incredible I couldn't even guess what it was. I vaguely suspected there might be ripe banana in it, just for the general character, but at the same time it didn't taste like it. I was also reminded of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit chewing gum, but that was so long ago I don't remember exactly how it tasted.
Anyway, the ingredients were eventually disclosed. Not what I would have guessed. Certainly no banana. I was surprised. Pomegranate, Pineapple and Raspberry. The kick comes from the Raspberry, but it doesn't taste of Raspberries in any distinct way.
So today I was offered a different fruit drink. Didn't taste bad. But it wasn't anything special either. Strawberries were unmistakable. It's hard to mask Strawberry. So what more? Mint. Nothing more. I was like, okay. But it is the reason I write about it today.
I have no proportions for anything. Sorry I can't offer you recipes, but a tip is to take it easy with the Raspberries. It should be that aromatic kick, but not more. The drink was like salmon pink, or slightly more pink, if the color is any guide. And then there was some other stuff in it. Probably some sugar and something that made it cloudy. A wild guess is a drop of Yoghurt, but I don't know. Take it easy with the alcohol, make it very weak.
P.S. Wasn't said, but there could have been a touch of vanilla too, ...possibly.

Now that I'm at it, I might as well give you a tip of another amazing fruit drink. (though this is a long time ago) There is this Italian Cloves liqueur. Its name is something about 'Witch', don't remember. It's very hard to drink. You get tired and nauseated by the taste almost as fast as by 'Jim Beam' But, but, add a small splash to Orange juice and you have the best Orange drink you've ever tasted. Reinforce it with vodka or whiskey if you want. Don't reinforce it with more of the Cloves liqueur. Anything more than a small splash is too much.

So I have stopped doing my nature hikes for a while, the mosquito population has exploded. Instead I am going for urban walks. A couple of times lately I've walked up to the trendy part of town north of my house (about 2.5 km north). Since these are morning walks, the last couple of times I have stopped at one of the many cafes in the area and ordered a latte and read my kindle in the cafe for a while. I've found that I really enjoyed this. The cafes have been not too busy that time of day (mid morning) but some interesting people are there. On my way home I took a longer route and noted about 4 or 5 other cafes I think I will try out in future walks. To that end, I am becoming a.....hipster! NNNNooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

I just literally set a record for fastest time losing something I just purchased. Went on a grocery run, had a full cart of groceries and items, so full I had to put a few items on the shelf on the bottom of the cart. Among these items on the shelf was a box of green garbage bags, some white kitchen garbage bags and some blue recycling bags. I pay or my groceries and wheel the art to my truck which was parked close to the storefront. I start loading things into my truck and notice the box of blue garbage bags is not longer on the bottom shelf of the cart. No problem can't be far must have just fallen off the shelf, I retrace my steps to the store front, nothing. I go into the store, the checkout is very close to the exit, nothing I talk to the guy at the till and ask him he says he remembers checking them but nothing, the dang thing totally disappeared the few hundred feet from the check out to my truck. This all happened with a few minutes or so. The only thing i can surmise is that it fell of the shelf and someone immediatly picked it up and walked off with it.

So I have nurtured this idea of starting to build model kits. I have already purchased some, and a couple of really big ones, 1:24 Hellcat and Typhoon . The boxes are highest up on a shelf and there they will remain for awhile. So I'm planning to get things and tools organized and accumulate some experience and knowhow. So I've decided to start with a Tamiya Panzer II, cheap and supposedly easy to assemble. So I haven't started yet, but I'm trying to understand painting. Seems there are a lot of different kinds of paints, paint systems, acrylic, polyurethane, alkyd, vinyl, nitrate,.. so I'm like WTF?! But none of them declares pigment classes or durability?! So I'm like WTF?! Will I have to make my paint myself? <Sigh> So I move on to a different angle. What color? Internet research follows: German methods, a paint system. The colors are known and coded!! Hooray! Panzer II, early paint scheme RAL 7017 and RAL 7021, then only RAL 7021. But what exactly are those colors? A drop down into the rabbit hole soon convinced me that no one knows what they're talking about ...almost nobody. Specs and samples of 7017 and 7021 have survived so those colors are known (which is not the case of all WW2 paints). Only problem is that they're too dark. I can fix that. Have I made any progress? I still don't know what paint to use. <Sigh> I'll have to experiment I suppose. That's after all the exact reason why I start small. But should I make the paint myself? 🤔 I think not but...

I remember the RAL color standard for paint. There used to be commercial paint using that standard for model kits. There probably still is, but it has been too long ago for me to remember the brand. But if you can't find it then maybe this list helps.

I remember the RAL color standard for paint. There used to be commercial paint using that standard for model kits. There probably still is, but it has been too long ago for me to remember the brand. But if you can't find it then maybe this list helps. Lol. Yes, I might very well end up buying the RAL K5 fan. But things are quickly moving on into the very advanced direction, for something I was just going to train/experiment on. But, ...you know, follow the path. Some problems: Some guy tested 14 different model paints RAL 7021. Only one was accurate, and that in a brand that is so rare it's almost unobtainable and must be airbrushed. The kit instruction's suggestion, a Tamiya paint of course, was one of the worst. Having a paint sample like the RAL fan, and then mix to match, seem the best method. However, a couple of problems: I wanted to do it as it appeared in the Poland & France campaigns. And that means 7021 and 7017. Do you see RAL 7017 in your Wikipedia lists or in the RAL fans? Nope! It's not there. And that is also the case of some other WW2 colors, like RAL 7028, a very important color for later in the war. "Dunkelgelb" It so happens that some museum people have very recently found fresh samples and been able to accurately reconstruct it. And it so happens that everybody has had it wrong. 7028 was mainly a grey color, just as its 7000 number indicates, not yellow. And not particularly dark either. The real 7028 turned out to be lighter and greyer than all museum tanks or model suggestions. "Dunkel" doesn't seem to refer to dark, but to low saturation, dull yellow gray. But I digress. I need RAL 7017, used to be RAL 45. They changed designation. Haven't found it, but I think I can wing it from descriptions and RGB coordinates. There is then the added problem of adding the atmospheric effect. I'm going to do that, because I think I can, and that's what you always do when you paint pictures. You paint what it looks like, not the color samples.

You're the color guy, so I don't have much to add, but I used to be a modeler once. I did find this: AK-11315-Ral-7017-DunkelbraunThe colour seems to be a dark yellowish brown?

Yeah, I've moved on to just accept something approximative. You have to, in a way, anyway, if you want to add the atmospheric effect on colors. And I think I want to do that, or it won't look realistic, IMO. But, since you used to be a modeler, what paint system did you use? Any advice on that? I don't think I want to mess with airbrush and I probably want acrylics to avoid the worst solvents. Apparently an acrylic-vinyl paint, 'Vallejo Model Color' is the best acrylic for brush painting?

what paint system did you use? You really don't want my painting advice. That was in the '80's, I used enamel paints, like Humbrol and Revell. There was no system, you just primed, sanded and painted the top layer. There was a putty, probably something like Tamiya putty, but I don't remember what it was. Painting has come such a long way since; I've watched miniature painting channels, like this one: Squidmar Miniatures and acrylics are definitely the way to go. Vallejo does come up a lot in the Youtube channels.
