Thursdays are a really mixed bag this year, aren't they? I see a few games with garbage teams, a couple that are likely to be curbstomps, and some that are going to be good.

I saw that. This is exactly what I've been afraid of. I know both the Cowboys and the Texans had outbreaks during the offseason but they managed to contain them and go forward. The day before the NFL was faced with its first coronavirus outbreak, Las Vegas Raiders players were seen not wearing masks at a charity event that was in violation of Nevada rules and NFL protocols.

A fundraiser for the charitable foundation of Raiders tight end Darren Waller on Monday night drew Derek Carr, Jason Witten, Nathan Peterman, Foster Moreau, Zay Jones, Hunter Renfrow, Nevin Lawson and Waller along with a crowd of about 100 to an indoor event at the DragonRidge Country Club in Henderson, Nev., a Vegas suburb, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. Photos and video showed players and guests not wearing masks.

The country club was fined $2,000 by the city of Henderson on Tuesday for four violations of coronavirus directives issued by Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D). Those directives included the wearing of masks and limiting indoor gatherings to no more than 50 people. (The latter order is set to be increased to a limit of 250 on Thursday.)

The league, which unlike the NBA and NHL is not holding its season in a competition bubble that keeps teams at a limited number of sites, set protocols in agreement with the NFL Players Association that limit players’ activities, including barring them from attending any event that “violates local and state restrictions.”

Raiders owner Mark Davis said the team would look into the matter. “We obviously take responsibility for this,” he told the Review Journal. “You don’t like seeing this. I don’t know that it’s actually been built into our memories that you have to wear a mask. Our organization takes it very seriously.”

The NFL had not commented on the matter as of early Wednesday morning.

One person who was at the gala told the Review Journal that Waller wore a mask throughout the event, but video showed Carr and players talking and with attendees without masks.

The NFL was confronted with its first outbreak of the coronavirus Tuesday, when three Titans players and five staff members tested positive for the virus after their game in Minnesota. The Titans shut down their facility and the Vikings suspended in-person team activities, including practices and face-to-face meetings.

The NFL, Titans and Vikings are proceeding as if the teams’ Week 4 games will be played. Tennessee has a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday and the Vikings are scheduled to play the Texans in Houston. Through the first three weeks of the regular season, the NFL did not have a game canceled or postponed because of the pandemic.

This isn’t the first time the Raiders have run afoul of coronavirus protocols. Coach Jon Gruden was fined $100,000, and the team $250,000 because of Gruden’s failure to wear his mask on the sideline the Week 2 game. The Raiders are also being investigated by the league for allowing an unauthorized team employee in the locker room after the game, ESPN reported. Gruden has said he had the coronavirus in July.

Washington Football Team has received ‘almost 9,000 submissions’ as part of renaming process

Since the start of the season, Washington Football Team President Jason Wright has written a weekly brief for the team’s website, in which he reflects on Washington’s previous game, shares some of his favorite recent encounters with fans, sponsors or media members and answers a single question about the organization’s business operations.

This week’s question, Wright said, is the one he easily gets asked the most: What’s the team’s new name going to be?

“Here’s the (honest) answer,” Wright wrote. “'Bruh/sis, cut me some slack, we need some time to do this right! We can’t ** this up!'”

Wright explained that Washington is in the midst of a five-phase renaming process, “with a dedicated team of people focused on driving that project forward.” The “Transformation” phase involved introducing the current name — Washington Football Team — and making necessary updates to digital properties and signage at the team’s facilities before the season opener.

Washington has since moved on to the “Discovery” phase, during which the team is soliciting ideas for a new name and brand identity from various groups, including fans. Wright said the team, which has a “Submit Your Idea” form on WashingtonJourney.com, has already received “almost 9,000 submissions to date.”

“This phase will continue throughout the entirety of the 2020 season and will serve as an opportunity for us to gather input from everyone — fans, partners, staff, alumni, community leaders, etc.," Wright explained. “Inclusion is a key part of our journey, and we think it’s critical that we listen to everyone before making a decision.”

The final three phases of the rebranding process are “Insight,” “Creation” and “Execution.”

Before Wright was hired in mid-August, Red Wolves and Red Tails were among the possible replacement names that gained traction with fans on social media. The red wolf is on the brink of going extinct in the wild for a second time, and at least one scientist said Washington becoming the Red Wolves could help save the species. Red Tails would celebrate the Tuskegee Airmen, the nation’s first African American aerial combat unit, who broke the color barrier during World War II while flying P-51 fighter units painted with red tails. Air Force will wear “Red Tails” uniforms and helmets to honor the Tuskegee Airmen when it plays Navy on Saturday.

In Wright’s first interview as Washington’s team president, “Good Morning America” host Michael Strahan asked him about the team’s new name.
“I know what you all are thinking,” Wright said with a laugh. “You hired a brother and all of a sudden the betting money is on Red Tails. It’s not.”

The team already has up to 8,999 other possibilities to consider.

I was watching HOU-MIN game yesterday. I was hoping for Houston to hand the Vikings another L, but Minny was the better team just about all game long. I really could not see any reason why a team with the kind of roster talent that Houston has should be underachieving that much, other than a failure of coaching.

Houston made a big mistake in letting DeAndre Hopkins be traded to Arizona. That hurt the offense. Of course their defense need to do a lot better than they have since the season started.

The bill o Brien firing was 2 years to late Imo, him staying just ended up losing them some big pieces to their team. DHop is leading in receptions atm, they gave up that LT and now they're looking to give up a 1st round pick to get another lol, it's like why did you even bother getting rid of your other?

My Redskins are still trash (I'm not calling them "the Washington football team"), Haskins is sooooo green at the moment I really don't think we'll win much unless the defense shuts out opposing offenses, and I'd say that could be possible here and there but already we're getting injuries to the Dline which is easily the biggest strength they have. That said the division is so bad I can see them possibly winning even with a losing record, they just need to win their rivalry games.

Looking at Dallas, I don't like the people praising Dak when most of his stats are coming from garbage time 🤷 it's just not impressive to me. Furthermore as explosive as that Dallas offense can be, they're also pretty self destructive, heck Dak potentially could've had 4 INTS if the browns DBs could catch.

The Giants don't have anything to talk about much and the eagles can also be a potential division winner, but I think Carson Wentz is going to continue having a bad year (and hopefully make the eagles realize he's not as good as they thought him to be).

I'd still say it's going to likely be a toss up between Dallas or Philly for whomever wins the division, but the Redskins have a shot if everyone continues to suck lmao. They just need to really evaluate Haskins this season and see if he's worth holding onto for the future, but I'm pessimistic honestly, I kind of want them to just put Alex Smith in and see what happens but Smith isn't the future, and who knows how he'll play after that leg injury two years ago, I'd imagine he'll be rusty as heck but he should still be a great game manager.
