Played through Hunting the Archon Today and brought Peebee and Cora along. Throughout the whole mission, there was no mention of Dracks missing scouts until the decision to save them or Raeka, or at least I didn't see any mention.
Does the game just drop this on you or was there build up earlier in the game about Drack's missing scouts?

He mentions his scouts, now and then, but not these missing/captured scouts. There's really no build-up. If Drack isn't there to tell you they might be aboard, there's even less warning that they'll suddenly appear in a decision point. We have a thread about this. I'll try to add a link. I might be wrong, but from what I know Drack's missing scouts are part of APEX system (those missions you can do on your terminal and\or play in MP, a useless and awkward reinvention of DAI 'war table').

Correct. It's called 'Drack's missing scouts' He also talks about it a bit in the nomad, I think. Not sure though.

I've only just looked at the Apex terminal on my 2nd playthrough as i assumed it was multiplayer and had no interest in that.

I've only just looked at the Apex terminal on my 2nd playthrough as i assumed it was multiplayer and had no interest in that. Not exactly. It has some minor SP-rewards - creds, resources, research points, a random chance to drop a rare weapon. And all it takes from you is pressing a button once in a while. It's also the only source of mission points, which can be spent for some MP upgrades and\or upgrading your APEX teams (if you're into that kind of things). It's also the only source of mission points, which can be spent for some MP upgrades and\or upgrading your APEX teams (if you're into that kind of things - a total waste, IMO). Wish they had handled it better, it had its potential. E.g. I loved those little table text-quests from DAI, many of those were interesting to solve. APEX is nothing like that.

Does the game just drop this on you or was there build up earlier in the game about Drack's missing scouts? Yeah, it feels like there's a conversation with Drack that should have gone down before it but never made the cut. I wasn't even aware he had scouts under his command, never mind that they were missing until I had a choice to save them. Hell even in a second playthrough with Drack on my team at all times I think they're only mentioned in passing.

IIRC, since I had Drack with me on Elaaden, he mentions the missing scouts at one point while there. Don't quote me on that though, so much going on in the game.

Seems like there were some mentions in game but they're "random" based on having Drack around as a companion, which is unfortunate as the decision could have been a lot more impactful had there been more build up. Maybe Drack was on Eos looking for his scouts and he mentions that the first time we meet him?

The positive thing, as opposed to ME3, you can let a strike team handle that instead of exposing yourself to multiplayer. It doesn't have to make any difference though. The scouts stay missing until you stumble over them in that mission.

Not only does Drack not mention his missing scouts, he goes so far as to tell you he is alone, hunting solo, which is why he travels so light when he moves into your kitchen. So, no. There is no reason to be aware of them beforehand.
I never saved them because what kind of Krogan goes and gets himself captured anyways?

Maybe Drack was on Eos looking for his scouts and he mentions that the first time we meet him? I didn't understand the one scene between Liam and Jaal when they were both naked exchanging armor. Although on a second playthrough, one where I used both characters much more often, I realized they had somewhat of a frenemy thing going on. All in All, I felt like choosing between the scouts and Salarians was less impactful than some of the decisions I made in ME1(E.G. sacrificing the council or Ascension, choosing to save Kaidan or Ashley).

All in All, I felt like choosing between the scouts and Salarians was less impactful than some of the decisions I made in ME1(E.G. sacrificing the council or Ascension, choosing to save Kaidan or Ashley). It's definitely less impactful. Still, it could be important. Raeka is a big deal; and worth having around in the future. Conversely, choosing (or not choosing) the scouts could have a huge impact on how the krogan view Ryder, down the road. Ryder is, at present, the tie that binds a lot of groups together. Bitter krogan could make the claim that Ryder only helped them, previous to this choice, in order to get what was best for the other species. (Help the krogan to help yourself.) Whether that's true is likely an RP-thing. I suspect that BioWare has become more careful in letting us make big decisions that would introduce major variables. By ME3, we had people complaining that their choices didn't matter, and who weren't referring to the endings. If BioWare let us blow up another Council, or whatnot, they'd have to account for that variable. That would likely just lead to people bitching about their handling of the disparate outcomes. Everyone around here is an armchair writer and game dev. Keeping things moderate makes their job easier.

It's funny how Drack is real pissed if you don't save the scouts but barely cares if you don't give Morda the remnant drive core.

It's funny how Drack is real pissed if you don't save the scouts but barely cares if you don't give Morda the remnant drive core. If memory serves, he didn't like Morda. Moreover, he may have felt a stronger bond or responsibility towards the scouts. I gave the core to Morda simply because I felt bad for Drack.

I could have sworn Drack mentioned the scouts in the first conversation with him on the Tempest... or am I misremembering (I do that a lot so I wouldn't be surprised).
