Looks interesting. I've never played Darksiders, will have to look it up. Thanks for the heads up. By all mean! If the pitch "heavy metal Zelda" has any appeal I heartily recommend it. And it looks like you can get the old games in a bundle for cheap at the moment. The new publisher, THQ Nordic, released HD remasters of the previous two games for this console generation and PC, so take a look at those. Now to delve into some thoughts about this one: So it sounds like Fury's abilities will revolve around shapeshifting, interesting if this replaces the powers and items from previous games. It also looks like we'll be returning to the post apocalyptic earth before the events of the first game. I like that setting, but I hope we travel to other worlds too. I liked that about Darksiders 2. I hope this game's plot works to reveal new information instead of just being effectively a side plot to restart the franchise. I was also a little disappointed they didn't have this game be about both Fury and Strife, a way for the developers to work out co-op if that's what they ultimately want to implement for all four horsemen.

Interesting... It sounds like this is going to be a bit more of an open world than the first two games but with linearity still enforced by areas that can only be reached by acquiring particular abilities. Nice. Though that does seem to imply that there will be few if any excursions to other worlds, bummer. The writer makes a Breath of the Wild comparison in terms of how they're expanding on the core gameplay of previous games, so that's promising. They also talk about getting rid of gated combat and making puzzles make sense in the environment instead of the classic fun but nonsensical dungeon puzzles... I actually kinda like those things but we'll see. I also get the sense that Fury could end up having even better traversal than Death, at least in terms of verticality.

12 min. of pre-alpha gameplay... The comment section is adorable, everyone is a developer nowadays. I like the art style, a lot. The combat that was shown here was kind of dull, but again the game still has a year left of development, lots can happen. If its the peeps from IGN playing, then i am not surprised *flashbacks to Peebee's loyalty mission.

Very nice.
I really hope the over-the-top boss kill cutscenes and executions from previous games are in the finished product though.
The combat looked a little slow and Fury's dodge move isn't as quick or move her as far as I would like. I was hoping for a bit more Lords of Shadow from the whip combat and the camera needs to back off a bit.
But this is pre-alpha

Yeah, it feels a bit dated overall, but I did like the boss monster design and that little sequence in the beginning where he's raised up by his minions. And I agree the camera should back off a bit, which is especially noticeable when getting close to the boss and you can't read his animation tells.
I noticed what looked like a chakram on her back, hopefully that's another weapon option...
As you say, there's still plenty o' time, and it'll be worth keeping an eye on.

If the other games are anything to go by she'll have at least a few weapon options and the descriptions keep calling her a "mage," so I expect power use will factor into her combat a lot.
This gameplay seems very bare bones, not something to really show off except maybe the art style. Which makes me think they probably put this out mostly for feedback and to get a sense of what people are looking for.
I guess 12-18 months before release is actually a pretty good window if you want feedback on the core gameplay.

Good news.
I played the first one, Got the platinum trophy. Got the 2nd one only to stop playing because of ME. When I finally got around to playing 2, I wasn't able to get the platinum because one trophy required to be online except the servers were shut down. So I bought special edition for the ps4 and got the platinum.
I like her hair. The whip looks good. Looking forward to seeing more information

So according to Wikipedia, when Vigil games broke up, much of the staff joined either Gunfire Games (Apparently the lead gameplay designer from the previous Darksiders is here, so that's good news), founded by the studio's founder David L. Adams, and Airship Syndicate, founded by Joe Madureira (Apparently working on a video game based on the fictional universe of the Battle Chasers comics he did in the 1990s, they kickstarted it in 2015). So he isn't on this team.
But he's been vocal recently about how glad he is to see Darksiders continue and according to IGN he did work with Gunfire Games on Fury's redesign, so who knows how much influence he has on the creative side.

I'm a little miffed by the statements about making it less "gamey". I hope that doesn't lead to a lack of diversity in the environments if we're confined to this relatively limited area of the ruined earth. And I hope dungeon puzzles are still there, the alpha footage didn't show any in getting to Sloth.
