The theory behind burst weapons IRL (and in most game descriptions) is HIGHER accuracy than fully-auto bullet spray and the goal is similar firepower/effectiveness as full-auto version, but with less wasted bullets. Remember ROBOCOP? Super-tight groupings on each burst.
IDK why, but modern video games have somehow decided that the prevailing wisdom of real weapons is all bullshit and burst fire weapons are worse than semi and fully automatic weapons, period. What crap. IRL, they use gas venting to compensate for recoil, and burst weapons should have very tight spreads for an individual burst using that or other recoil compensation techniques. On the Incisor, I'm pretty sure I see gas vents on the barrel, so this pop up and shoot at the ceiling after shot one mechanic is BS.
Zalkin is particularly shitty. Hesh and Thokin are the best Andromeda galaxy weapons I have and they're really just OK.
Edit: Finally, the Valkyrie sucked in ME3 and I'm not surprised to find it sucks in ME:A. There's absolutely no excuse for that gun being UNable to put both rounds of a burst on a weak point with most middle-range shots (and even most close-range), iven it's rarity and comparatively weak DPS.
An N7 gun like the Valkyrie should shoot bursts like the bursts from a partially or fully charged Arc Pistol in ME3, which is to say, unnoticeable to the user.
The Valkyrie in ME3, wasn't even Gold viable, IMO, or at least very not fun in ME3 Gold as you just are a kill-steal magnet with that piece of shit, and it didn't even apply ammo effects well!! I would literally take the fucking Arc Pistol over Valkyrie in ME3 any day any time. Admittedly, the Arc Pistol is the best pistol overall in the game once you get used to partial charging for max DPS, (except on shield/barrier, where obviously the Acolyte crushes everything except the Reeagar)

Because we had the Argus in ME3, and it kicked ass with its damage per bullet. With enough stability on a turian, it was possibly a better death dealer than the Saber.Blasphemy! Also trigger warning on the word 'Argus', asshole. The Argus would be a top 5 weapon in this game.

You can't spend 10secs one on one with an enemy trying to pop his head off without feeling heat from all sides. In my opinion, the Thokin is the best AR in the game right now. It competes with the Raptor as the best range fully automatic gun. It's very good not just ok.

If you want to use burst guns, you had better do it just for fun because the your team is going to have to carry you. If they get sync killed and you have to solo one wave, you might as well commit suicide. I watched one hipster try to solo the last 5 enemies with a Mattock. It was a painful 20mins where he couldn't take down one enemy by himself. Of course, the Mattock let him down and he ended up running out of revive packs. 4 enemies and one ascendant, and he couldn't even scratch them.

Burst fires shoot 2-3 shots at a time like Valk, Incisor, Hornet and Sweeper.

I would use burst weapons in MEA - if they'd kill a red shirt with a single well aimed burst. Like the Argus did in ME3 with stability mods on a Turian, as already said. But it's so tedious and tiring for the arm muscle to follow the bullet sponge and clicking in a weird time window.

Isn't it usually in most games that Assault rifles have a fire mode, where you can select between Mattock-style semi-auto, Incisor-style 3-shot burst, or just Revenant-style full-auto? Or was that just Crysis?

After going through the pain of doing the Hornet weapon challenge in me3mp I swore never to use a burst fire weapon in a Mass Effect game, again. The Vindicator was all right, but the Hornet...*shudder*

I accidentally used the Zalkin and Sweeper in back to back games. I haven't repeated the experience. I just really wanted to find one assault rifle that didn't suck the proverbial donkey cock. The PAW actually isn't bad if you aim for the head

The Sweeper and Hornet are both decent. Down side of the Sweeper is the cooldown. The Valkyrie would be decent if it weren't for the recoil. It is usable, just not very fun. The Hornet is a better Sweeper than the Sweeper.

I used the valkyrie in singleplayer on insanity, if that counts ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/CeRUIfXurYhaBmWjMBkt.png) Fires a bit too slow, and not really accurately enough to qualify it for a burst weapon sadly.

I just got the Sweeper today, considering that my biggest problem ingame is forgetting where the ammo boxes are it is now my favorite weapon.

The PAW actually isn't bad if you aim for the head Sadly, my aim is damned atrocious, that's kind of why I want a decent assault rifle so bad. I can't snipe worth a damned, so my go-to for ranged work is a pistol: The sidewinder. Has just enough kick to pull up to where at least some shots will be headshots, but not enough that I just spray the wall over the target with bullets.

I thought I would be seeing more 2,3 shot burst weapons (e.g Incisor, Valkyrie) as people level up their weapons, ...but it seems like they are completely extinct in real games. I have seen like one person using Valkyrie and two other people using Incisor when I first started this game. After that, I have seen 0 person using burst weapons. I guess they are just the worst among bad weapons... I feel like mp version of valkyrie could be a solid contender for at least a top 3 spot in terms of terrible guns. It's that bad. Zalkin is probably worse. If I picked a character like soldier or infiltrator and had the extended mag mod on it I'd probably prefer ushior even over the valkyrie.

On PC you can macro the zalkin to meh status. With a ringing endorsement like that I'm definitely going to start my manifest over on PC. Fuck this Xbox shit. And if you get the timing in your macro just right, the gun never runs out of ammo. Drops 2-3, then bounces right back to full again. The first time I did it I thought I was in a hacked lobby, then I realized it was bronze. Tried several other lobbies and it worked in all of them. And all you had to do was fire one shot with the regular mouse button and then it worked normally, but if you never did that, it would run non stop the entire match without reloading. Once I got done laughing I've never used it again, because it's still solidly "meh".

The Valkyrie is my personal choice for worst gun, the kick is absurd for the tiny amount of damage it does and its magazine size is pitiful once you factor in the burst fire. Nothing about is fun or rewarding and even with the coming damage buff I still cant see myself using it.

The Hornet is a better Sweeper than the Sweeper. Interesting. I recently did both challenges and was starting to like the sweeper. The hornet felt like it needed a little help. The one big thing the hornet has going for it is the quick reload versus the long cooldown of the sweeper if it overheats. Sweeper also has a bit of projectile travel and can't pierce. I still had more fun with the sweeper. I'll try equipping both in a game.
