u gotta do the VPN trick to play on early Monday - cool pic! I have pre-ordered (hard copy for console) and can wait patiently. A little longer. And still (try to) finish up some things before it arrives. If I had gone for the early access I'd probably burn through too much too fast or waste a lot of time doing nothing because either way I'd be too anxious. I'm also still undecided about what character I'm gonna play... What I can come up with in the CC just might be the judge of that. I did save all the N7 Day promo-thingies, so expect one every day until the 21st.

Here is an explaination of the dialogue icons for anyone like me who have trouble getting a general sense of them:
•Heart – Emotional. You’ll be more understanding and will avoid offending anyone (unless they hate emotions, keep that in mind).
•Gear – Logical. You’ll respond with your brain and consider only the information you have, understanding be damned.
•Round Squiggle – Casual. This can sometimes include a bit of humor, be it of the “ha-ha” variety or just a healthy dose of sarcasm. It’s not always sarcastic though, and can often just be a relaxed response.
•Square Squiggle – Professional. Often times the safest option, you’ll just respond in a respectful way that shows you’re serious about the mission at hand.
I looked it up and found this definition for each.

Well guys, I was going to wait until later this summer to play MEA when I build a 60FPS/4K PC but I just cannot wait that long. Instead, I am going to buy the game on my PS4 and enjoy a first initial playthrough. Then later this year, I will build my PC and do a second playthrough with DLC on that. I feel so dirty and inferior....

Sorta spoilery re: male PC appearance
The default Scott looks nothing like the previews I saw so I am very disappoint. :poker: I've seen some recent, quick shots of him (including the CC video that shechinah shared) and he did seem a little different from the Cinematic Trailer, but I guess I was in denial thinking he wouldn't look very different. (Contains image of mRyder in armor, from Cinematic Trailer) Not this face, then? Don't know why they'd change him. I thought he looked fine. Yeah, I don't know what happened. He is definitely less hunky than in the previews, and looks a bit younger too. Maybe they decided to change him based on the "can I romance my brother?" crowd? On the other hand, maybe Sara looks better than before? I might give her a try as well.

Avoided all the spoilers still! I signed up for Early Access but haven't d/l'd yet - may not play any till Monday via VPN. I signed up cause it was $2 less with EA. I went to Kotaku and saw something about the animations, but it was more about others being upset by them, not Kotaku itself. Anyway, haven't played so withholding judgment. If it's equal to Mass Effect 3, I'd be happy. Can't wait guys - almost here. Still in the middle of my last ME3 playthrough (just got Tali.) P.S. Can anyone comment on the animations (w/ spoilers) - are the bad? something about the eyes? I think I've played just about everything that you can in the early access and I will say that I am really enjoying it so far. Combat is fun, story is intriguing (so far), and there is a lot of dialogue when you're running around with your squad/wandering around hub areas (like significantly more than the trilogy). Now as for the animations: The facial animations for the humans and asari are not very good. The lip-syncing doesn't look quite right and the eyes are weird. Characters either have dead eyes, or they move around too much. I don't know how else to describe it other than that it just looks weird. I wouldn't say that it's awful and it doesn't ruin the game for me, but it definitely isn't great. The other aliens look fine though, it's just anything with a human face that looks off. I have seen some gifs and screen shots of animations and read 1 review what I've seen is kind of weird looking and not the best, especially the eyes, but I personally don't think it breaks the game. I really don't understand how companies like Bethesda seem to get a pass for glitchy animations and bugs (I played Skyrim after the patch and had an Argonian quest giver who was floating 5 feet off of the ground and I couldn't interact to get my quest because it was too far away to accept the mission) but Bioware seems to get trashed on. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Bethesda games as well but I just don't get this mentality. Personally, as long as the story and characters are great and I enjoy the gameplay, the animations don't bother me as much.
The headlines fro the mixed reviews that I've seen seems more like click-bait articles. I ended up reading one and the article headline sounded extremely negative but then once it got past the animation issues the reviewer had, the actual review about gameplay, characters and story was fine. I hope that's the case and the actual reviews coming out are a bit less click-baity.

I have to keep how well this continues.
Is it possible that you can rent the game for consoles somewhere near you? In my country, our libraries share their stock across each other on request and tend to have new games avaliable for consoles for free. Maybe you check to see if that is an option if you want to wait to purchase it for PC?

I'm going to wait to give my (spoiler-free) review of the early access because I want to see if the few concerns that I have changes. I have some precautions I like to share for other roleplayers. It'd be tagged for those that want only their own perspetive going into the game: it won't contain any spoilers.

Naw, I already have a PS4 so I will just buy the game on that and play for the time being. My current PC is not really a gaming PC, just an all-in-on Lenovo PC that I use for school/work. Sometime later this year I will build a 4K/60fps PC along with a Asus monitor that is capable of such output. Hell, even though I am getting the game next week, I still won't be able to play it because I am also buying the prequel/tie in novel and I HAVE to read that before diving into the game.

The textures and detail on the face reminds me of ME1. Not a bad thing, I just think the ME1 looks always seemed to be really solid and almost life-like whereas ME2 and ME3 looked really "videogamey".

Hell, even though I am getting the game next week, I still won't be able to play it because I am also buying the prequel/tie in novel and I HAVE to read that before diving into the game. That reminds me: while the Nexus Uprising is a prequel, I think the aftermath of the event it references is something some players may want to experience on their own in the game before experiencing the event itself in the book. It's a bit difficult to explain without going into spoilers but basically there's this sense of ambiguity to the whole thing that can lead you wondering about various perspectives and what actual happened.
I think a loose comparison would be the difference between Columbus and Midsomer Murders: in one you see the murder unfold by the hand of the culprit and in the other you don't and have only the clues including various perspectives to form an idea of the event that may turn out to be true, not or a mix of both. This is based on my impressions, of course, so I may be wrong but I thought I'd mention it. It's why I've decided to hold off on reading the book because I suspect the ambiguity may deliberately come into play.

The textures and detail on the face reminds me of ME1. Not a bad thing, I just think the ME1 looks always seemed to be really solid and almost life-like whereas ME2 and ME3 looked really "videogamey". Yeah, I've seen old elements from all over the trilogy return in some way or another but in a more improved state. I recognize elements from ME1 and I'm happy to see them because I remember liking them a lot. It's not only gameplay: it's elements from the atmosphere of that game like the social interplay. I'm also very optimistic that the flanderization of races has been discontinued or, at least, has severely decreased.
Basically, the Planet of Hats trope is still in effect to a degree but it's providing more individuals that don't fit the, well, stereotype of their race without them necessarily being exceptions to the rule. Adding nuances would perhaps be the word. You also encounter characters with moderate opinions and perspectives: that one is hard to explain without going into what the topic was about so I'll refrain. Anyway, this has been my impression far so we'll see how well it holds up in the long run of the game.
I do think there is some awkwardness including in having to make the jump from the old engine to this one, budget contraints and growing pains but nothing I’ve seen so far has been immersion breaking for me. It’s just something that I caught from time to time.

Man we're being plastered with spoilers and people are filled with negativity right now These are probably the same people who trash talk the ME3 ending to this day. It's "popular" to bash this game now, and some of it revolves around the facial animation. The facial animation is something that BioWare games have had since the beginning, and they're only for scenes that the players control, and the way it works is understandable. They're like that for a reason. It's very technical. The animation in pre-rendered scenes have more animation, because it's likely that the animators don't have to compensate/compromise for player interaction. What part of this do they not understand. Why do they fail to read between the lines. Let's not forget the differences between low polygon & high polygon graphics. Every game to this day alternates between theme. People are saying that this game looks terrible even on the consoles. Their standards are impossible/irrational. Sometimes I wonder if some people, including website articles, or videos are jumping on the hate train for the sake of popularity/credibility only.

I think the 10 hour preview was a mistake with Early Access. Did you guys see the Forbes article on that point? Apparently this game is slow to take off "like ME1" so the beginning probably isn't showing much pizzazz or awesome story beats. Also, from what I gather, the animation thing is only distracting on a couple of NPCs, not on everyone, so that's good news. And, in the scheme of things, you get over it (read some non-spoiler previews about this topic.) That said, I can't help but feel a little worried and pre-disappointed (though I haven't even played yet) - mainly due to the deluge of people complaining about CC or the animations. I've been waiting for 5 years - I still have some hope but it's now tempered down a bit. I just wished they used the ME3 animation engine.

There are a lot of little puzzles and I like that sort of thing if there are spoilers all over the place I will just stick in here because it is so nice to just explore and see things instead of checking things of a list. Want to play more.

Apparently this game is slow to take off "like ME1" so the beginning probably isn't showing much pizzazz or awesome story beats. I honestly didn't think there was anything wrong with the story's pace: most of the early game as seen in the early access was setting up the premise and tone of the game which I thought it did well. I thought the events flowed nicely together including the sidequest and even the fetch quests were well-integrated into the themes.
As for action? The prologue has this and it feels like it and the early game in general were building up to to story beats so, you know, said story beats would have impact. I don't see why those would be revealed in the early game. Most of this is about piquing people's interest, laying clues and introducing elements. Again, I thought it worked very well, at least, for me.

Ok ty - can you tell me what you rate the game (so far) out of 10? And, is the animation thing overblown and really only distracting on a few NPCs or is it more of a universal issue? Also, did it seem like DA:I in space? Obviously no spoilers

^ I really don't want to be in the minority again. I remember the ME3 ending was hated by so many. The negative side of the subject was all over the internet. You hardly to never saw the positive end. History is repeating itself with Andromeda. The criticisms will be everywhere. Every YouTuber, every article, etc, leaving no room for a different perspective to speak out. Sooner or later it will so overwhelming, that people who like everything about the game will be too damn scared to reveal themselves, because of possible backlash. This is unbelievable. Don't believe me? Give it time.

I will try and answer some of the questions from my few hours in game.
The story is well paced, it has a nice rhythm to it in waves of scene setting with moment ms of action and purpose.
Some of the facial animation to be has the appearance of some 'twitching' round the eyes but I haven't really noticed any thing immersion breaking which partly plays into the story being quite engrossing.
I am loving the default sisRyder, especially the natural appearance of her skin. I am also liking the feel of combat and gameplay in general, I mean what Bioware wizardry is this where our character can actual run !! Lol
For me so far it is a solid 8 out of 10 and I get the vibe I'm going to be revising up not down as I get further in.
In reference to the DA:I space questions, to me, no it isn't. Although I love DA:I at times I felt 'lost' in that game where as ME:A feels more controlled, a more matured design.
Edit: Just a thank you to shechinah for their comment about the book and the way the events of that are told in the game as I was planning on not playing any ME: A till after reading the book but I am glad I decided to take the jump as you learn things in a sketchy way that feels very natural and I think it will be nice to read the book after almost in 'after action report' way that is just tidying up what you have learnt.

The trial... I didn't hate what I played, but I didn't love it either. The experience was intriguing enough that I want to play more, that's about the highest praise I'm willing to give it right now.
Wish I felt more excitement.
Goofy faces/eyes did bother me a bit, but it's not my biggest concern.

So, for anyone who has preloaded one of the deluxe versions - where is the soundtrack hiding? I can't find it anywhere.
I've still only played the 1 hour last night and so far the only thing I don't like (beyond my poor performance cpu) is the save system, or lack of one. How far in do you have to go until you can make a hard save that isn't an autosave? Am I close?
Spoiler for how far I got:
I just landed on the planet and started to explore. It also appears that all char files are going to be dumped into a single folder, just like DAI. However, it looks like they may have pulled their heads out slightly and put the char ID part of the save file name at the beginning instead of in the middle so they are at least sortable by char. I'm going to test it out later by creating a second character.
