Krogan Battlemaster: a different path. Since the demise of the old bioware forum, it has become more challenging to piece together the necessaries for building a character. Hopefully some may find this small presentation useful in that regard. For a gold solo run it is fairly easy to find the ordinary Kroguard melee build. They can be found here in the archive threads, they can be found in YouTube, Reddit, Textralife, and various blog posters. Here is an excelent writeup for that style of Kroguard : fextralife.com/forums/t342015/krogan-vanguard-gold-guide-retaliation-update--novice-friendly/ . This is not the melee build. This is the shotgun build. link It is directed at the geth, gold, solo. The more conventional build would be better for teamplay with unknown enemies. The Geth are chosen simply because they dont know how to do synch kills. The Krogan Battlemaster was chosen because it can survive the up close confrontations. Hopefully you have already heard hints that the Reegar can get goofy with Incendiary ammo. The Kroguard melee build is nice, lots of people like it. But it is so easy to miss the charge you want, and melee into thin air and get in over your head... Medigel. The Krogan Battlemaster carrying a wimpy light shotgun or pistol with the melee blade can deliver a Biotic Charge - Melee combo worth a couple thousand bits of damage on any enemy in a second. Yeah, that never gets old. Big beefy shields restored every few seconds, a couple of mooks drop cause you are awesome...yada yada. Yet the damage it causes pales in comparison to what can be done with a Reegar Incendiary build. Think double or triple damage per second. With the Reegar, its always faster to just shoot them. You see, the Reegar doesn't deliver Incendiary rounds as advertised, it amplifies them. For the Kroguard, maximize weapon damage feels like a win. Here is the deal, especially with the Reegar, Incendiary IV ammo creates a massive DOT. With a rapid fire weapon Incendiary DOT gets funky. On a single shot weapon Incendiary DOT does as advertised. The shot does its ordinary damage, followed by the DOT of six ticks of 50 over three seconds. Fine and good. But nothing special, (50+50+50...). They will die of old age before the DOT gets them. What is special is what happens with the Reegar. Things become a bit strange when you can land more shots inside those first three seconds. If one can do this, and the Reegar always does it, the DOT does not merely add, but it stacks. No longer does the DOT do 50+50 damage per second, it does 100+100, and etc.. . Subsequent shots increase this. The Reegar fires at 1000 rpm, which means lots of shots will land inside the three second windows, and thereby a doubling or tripling of the damage done by any burst into any enemy. Test it yourself if you wish. I hope you do. You will see every enemy simply melt, long before they ought to. Doctor Trick has posted a sub 20 solo video here . He uses the big (180) magazine and Cyclonics. In the vid there are many examples of shooting enemies with just a few shots, and letting the insane Incendiary DOT finish them off. Watch how he uses Biotic Charge. Not for damage per se, but it is used to recharge barriers, move across the map, or to trigger the big weapon bonus. Which is how it should be done. It should not be done to simply attack. He does get in a few Melee slams, but they seem almost accidental. He also uses the extra rockets to his advantage. Charge and Melee is not the primary damage dealer, it does 2000 or so damage with each flury. The Reegar Incendiary is the thing, it can hit 8000 dps or so. Melee is slow, Reegar is fast. 1000 rpm fast. Substitutions can be made on several of those choices. Trading Armored Compartments for the Stronghold is viable defensive move, yet this leaves the Reegar with a very small magazine. Swapping out the shredder mod for the spare thermal clip is an easy fix for this. Yet that will drop weapon damage by a chunk. And also give you too many bullets. Small maps like Glacier with akward ammo boxes may benefit from the big magazine. Big maps like Rio or Giant with easy ammo boxes dont seem to need it. On those maps Armored Compartments seems to offer the Reegar the right sized (101) magazine, not to mention the tremendous advantage of 3 extra missles for a solo run. Bigger maps will be slower to extraction. An extra missle will wipe out any spawn. A five shot burst will kill any mook, (the DOT) allowing you to take down four troopers with each reload. You might want to add more Melee damage perks. But as described above, tanky perks seem way better than rage damage here. And getting involved with fueling rage is the antihesis of this build. You might wish to swap the lighter barrel to reduce your Biotic cool downs, it is up to you. Trading Cyclonics for Adrenaline is a tankier choice. On a Krogan, Cylonics offer a massive shield boost. Yet speed is also a weapon. Speed will help on objective rounds, kiting, backing out of a swarm, it will reduce dangers encountered during extraction. For a Krogan on small maps, tankiness seems to outweigh speed. But i prefer large maps like Rio or Giant for gold solo runs. So i tend toward speed. You find your balance. Lets talk.

Thanks muchly for the detailed info and for the informative vid, lolacolyte. I'll give the Reegar/Incendiary-build a try (or three ) and get back to you with how it goes. Cheers.

Right, so I used a Reset card, configured my kroGuard to 6 (bab) / 0 / 6 (bba) / 6 (bab) / 6 (bab) and took him for a run with my Reegar X (Spare Thermal Clip V and Shredder Mod V) on Giant against Geth (Gold). Consumables: Incendiary IV, Shotgun Rail Amp III, Cyclonic IV and Shield Booster III. Got Escort / Hack / Escort (which caused no problems - it was waves 7 and 9 which seemed to hang). Finished with 5WS, used 3 medi-gels and 3 rockets. Got 2 killstreaks, scored 300736 and took 34.24 mins (which I'm sure will come down with practice). First impressions: it's harder work than is the melee setup, but I like it .

I'm known for my garden of Blasphemy. Melee/Reegar KroGuard is done to hell, nothing new or different there. Now, my Pyjak Battlemaster, it might not be new, but it's different. And yes, the Pyjak Master is my "usual" KroGuard build.

Fair enough, Arkhne; though it's also fair to posit that everything is a matter of perspective i.e. if you've been playing ME3 MP for some time, then of course it follows that the ordinary builds, loadouts etc. might've become mundane, and so the ideal from your perspective is to seek enjoyment in something with a twist. For me, though -- being a relative newcomer -- what is perhaps old hat for a seasoned hand remains relatively bright, shiny and new.

For me, though -- being a relative newcomer -- what is perhaps old hat for a seasoned hand remains relatively bright, shiny and new. A lot of my blasphemous builds are aimed at newcomers and intermediate players, as anybody else likely has their own experience and opinions to draw from in speccing characters. The point of my Pyjak Master is that he retains the mobility of Biotic Charge, with a high powered Carnage (even better when it detonates Fire Explosions from Incendiary Ammo), whilst still being pretty damned sturdy (with Biotic Charge on top of that), and having a mid-range focus, most KroGuard builds have you at headbutting range (not a bad thing, I'm just more comfortable when a Hack or Escort doesn't neuter my character, and that's how I feel with a Reegar). The Pyjak Master is great against Reapers and Collectors, but weak against Geth and ESPECIALLY Cerberus (People better than I at Acolyting could take that, but I just avoid Cerberus with him).

First impressions: it's harder work than is the melee setup, but I like it . A great first effort Yep, it takes a few practise runs to calm down into the flow of things. To calm down such that you are the one managing the map, and not merely the big fat target.
Also, i saw an error in the Kalence link i offered. Berserker should be speced for (weapon damage, headshots, weapon damage), and not weight and capacity. ((ABB) not (BBA)). That mistake is contrary to the spirit of this Krogan. The whole idea is to maximize shotgun damage, to have just enough durability to survive being constantly up close, Apologies. Its fixed now.
You might find swapping the thermal clip and shredder mod for thermal clip and one of the barrels. Bear in mind that the Incendiary DOT stacking is doing way more damage than advertised to health and armor. You can see the enemy health values here link . Of course hitting more headshots will melt them faster. That bonus is astonishing. Swapping shield boost for stronghold will provide faster shield recharge. Recharge speed seems more important than total amount of shields for the Krogan.
At any rate, thank you for the kind comments, stay calm

As a historical lesson to any that might not know of what has come before... *** Once upon a time in a lost land we'll called, "BSN Prime" there was a short while where people were highly interested in a banner called, "Lone Wolf". It was mistakenly (sort of...) believed that this banner would endow upon the user a sense of worthiness and demonstrate to his peers his excellence in the game of ME3MP. The desire to obtain this banner engendered people trying, naturally, to find the easiest way to obtain said banner. What they found was Kroguard on Gold, against Geth. With a Reegar. Roughly, mmm, four years ago? Typically FBW or Giant were recommended. With that combination, Incin ammo, and a Cyclonic IV, you could pretty much invincibly charge around the map Reegaring things to death in short order. Geth in particular since there was no possibility of a sync kill. When many of us see a Kroguard with a Reegar we don't need to see much else. Any changes in the build aren't going to alter the fact that it's a Kroguard with a Reegar. Nominally the easiest gold solo in the game. You're saying it's very strong and Reegar is better than melee. Most reading this will know that. Why you're getting some iffy reactions is that most of us know it and have known it for years now and avoid it like leprosy. I personally consider Kroguard vs Geth on Gold a guilty pleasure when drunk/high, but I use Talon and prefer to try and put my head through as many geth as possible; failing that I prefer to golf-punt them off the sides of high maps. Vancouver is a personal favourite. But I'm not there to finish a gold solo in record time. I'm there to listen to my Krogan laugh his ass off for half an hour while doing the same. It also sort of goes without saying that any build with the Reegar in general is going to be laughed out the airlock in this forum since, well, it was literally voted one of the worst guns. (Look at it's comeptition) *** PS, the "sort of" to the Lone Wolf banner, the banner itself is actually still the closest banner to demonstrating your skill in the game. It just doesn't mean it demonstrates much. Just more than any other banner. It's like having an N7 over 120. It doesn't mean much, but a savvy ME3MPer knows what a minimum of N7120 can mean.

I do understand new players wanting to get better at the game, but this ain't the way to do it. Even thinking about it is making me feel slightly sick. You won't learn anything, except how to be a pyjak. Political correctness be damned - this is full retard gaming. Big props to Arkhne and his blasphemous suggestions though, as if you're going to be a pyjak, his recommendation is at least fun. If you're not having success with a full melee Kroguard, the solution is to practise, not to switch your approach. Plat solo-obsessives aside, full melee Kroguard is the best Kroguard.

full melee KroSent is the best Kroguard. FTFY. Only trashcans need to replenish barriers.

I'm gonna admit... I suck as kroguard. Even with Reetard. Played a game against geth on Giant a month or so ago. Probably even hosted. And yet, I was dying far too much. I'm just not used to this guy. And geth... there's just not enough Cobras in Milky Way for those bastard. Didn't help I was trying to mix melee, barrier detonations and staying alive.
I don't like kroguard. If I want to play krogan I choose krosol or krentinel geared up for full melee and lay waste... on Cerberus or Reapers. Because them games are actually fun.
