Well, if for someone background music is boring, annoying or too noticeable - switch it off. The real problem in MEA is that you cannot switch in ON.

In addition to having turning all other sounds low to hear the music, there is a bug that sometimes the music doesn't trigger at all, happens mostly after you die. Just reload.

Which is genius. I mean Fallout can use this. I automatically sigh when Butcher Pete is back on. It's time cut off the pipboy and run my playlist. I had to turn The Witcher III's soundtrack down (particularly in Skellige)

Meanwhile skyrim had many tracks like this:
It's really weird how quiet the worlds are and it really adds to the empty and desolate feeling you get after spending some time on them. Maybe that's what they were going for, it doesn't exactly enhance the exploration though, it just makes everything feel more lifeless.
I'd rather have the option to turn it down if I don't want it. But games like the elder scrolls have really great exploration tracks and it really adds to the overall experience.

I'd love more "background" music too. Honestly the music aspect in ME:A is a bit disappointing compared to other BioWare games. Just look at Dragon Age: Inquisition: the Tavern Songs were a masterpiece. You can feel there are skills and efforts behind them

The first thing I do in a game, any game, is go into settings and turn music off, so the loss in more recent Bioware games does not bother me at all.
In active play music should appear only when it makes sense, such as the completely awesome tavern singers in DAI or going into club in ME. It is also put to great use as a dramatic beat to cutscenes, finding Skyhold, appearing after being buried on the Citidel. I don't need 'dum dum duuuuum' every time I walk down a hallway/cross a field.

It would be better than outright silence if ambient music were to make a return.
It feels silly to me to be against having repeating music in an rpg if the option is just mostly ambient noise. Especially one of this length. Both DA:I and ME:A are among biowares longest games they've ever made for not just beelining the main story next to BG2 and DA:O, yet they're also among the most silent.
It just puts unrealistic expectations for how much music is actually feasible to produce for a game wanting it to be as varied as in a 5 to 10 hour game, but in a very lengthy rpg. Music is also hugely important to an interactive medium to help instil emotions into the player, as a companion piece to the visuals.
