When you learn of Knight's plan, you return to the Nexus to disarm the EMP bombs. Even if you go straight there with no detours whatsoever, Kandros says one device already detonated at Hydroponics, and Ryder apologizes for the delay, saying he/she had to "help someone out" along the way. Then the device at Hydroponics is still there.
It seems like this mission may have once had a timer, but it was taken out, and it is defaulting to a jumbled result.

You're not getting a suboptimal result, if you're concerned about that. You can achieve the "best outcome" (whichever that is, to you) every time. I never interpreted it this way; but I'll listen to see if I can hear what you're hearing, next time.

Did you craft the device for her son? Yes, but that's before learning of the plan. Does Kandros say something else if you go the violent route? I'm not sure. I think the "help someone out" is helping Alain. Regardless, they could clean up the dialog a little bit in this one. |

After you talk to "Knight" she disappears, which to me means she left for the Nexus to set off the devices. And just because Ryder doesn't know about "Mercury", doesn't mean Knight can't be putting the plan in motion, while Ryder helps Alain with his implants.

After I went back to craft Alain's implants, I ended up leaving for Elaaden, did a bunch of quests there, made a few trips back and forth between the Nexus and other locations before winding back up on Kadara. It was only seeing the map marker that reminded I even had that quest still open. (I have a truck full of packages that I take my sweet time to deliver.) It would have been interesting if there were some different consequences or outcomes to your choice in that quest. And maybe Kandros telling you that part of Hydroponics was lost is a hint at what might have been planned and scrapped. |

It's possible that part of this quest was scrapped, or it could be a bug. I always finish that quest right when I get it though so that dialog never bothered me much. Just made it sound like because Ryder stopped to help Alain they lost part of hydroponics. *shrug*
