Theon - brilliant character development, probably the most complicated, and detailed, and fleshed-out character in the whole show Davos - the only truly good person there. Not super-good, not a saint, not a paladin. Just good. Sam Brienne Ned Dany Tyrion Catelyn Robb Jon Sansa Missandei Jorah Margaery Yara Renly - i do think he would be the best king out of all contenders. He wasn't brilliant but he wasn't a monster or a megalomaniac either, and in those circumstances that'd be enough.
Jaime could've been here too but they threw his 7-season development into the trash so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I knew it was a bad idea to rush my list because I have some thoughts to.
lol:
Anyways for the favorite characters.
Jon...should be fairly obvious. He is the man I aspire to be. The most honorable man in Westeros who always tried to do what was right and practical. Didn't really start liking him till like season...4 I think? But always appreciated how he tried to unite the people of Westeros against the threats that truly mattered. Ygritte: Without her there would've been no character arc for Jon. Tyrion: More the man I am I think. Always a deep thinker with a quick wit...though I don't drink. Dany: Bit controversial and not sure she belongs but in the end what she did does not fully eliminate who she was, who she could've been, and the warning she gives us. Arya: Kind of under the rader, spent a lot of season 5 really not liking her arc and thinking they ruined her. But 8 made up for it, for the most part. Dolores Ed: Always gave great comedic relief, some of the funniest moments of the show and his dry sarcasm was always appreciated. Samwell Tarly: It was great seeing him grow and find his place in the world at the end. Jorah Mormont: Much like Arya spent the longest time not liking him and he never really recovered but he certainly deserves an honorably mention....
Hell at this point I actually liked most of the characters in this show from one way or another. But I think that is a fairly good list of my favorites.

Don't see any need to expand on my list. They're all objectively cool and unique and full of personality, in entirely obvious ways. A shame only the bottom three managed to survive the series. A realm with all of them working to stabilize and fight for it would have flourished for decades.

I've notice a painful lack of Olenna and Margaery Tyrell on these lists. Sharpest wits and strongest PR game in the realm.

It's clear that Margaery's sweetness and generosity are a tool to get people on her side, but I think it means something that she strongly favors those tactics in her quest for power. She isn't a leader who would seeks to rule by might or fear. And at the end of the day, if objectively good things are being done for the smallfolk of the realm, how much does it really matter why they're being done?

Sharpest wits and strongest PR game in the realm. actually its funny you mention that because Margaery was one of b those characters I actively disliked. Well written but she reminded me way too much of modern day politicians and was just as much a snake as Joff, Ramsay or especially Cersei... just she was pretty and clever. Olena had her cool moments but it is worth noting she was one of those who encouraged Dany's darker nature.

Like everyone else, she did what she had to do to survive in GOT's harsh world and as long as someone is doing good for people, (even if it's just to help their own image) I don't see the harm. Not when characters like Joff, Ramsay or now Dany try to out beat each others kill count.

However, as long as someone is doing good for people, even if it's just to help their own image I guess I don't see the harm. Not when characters like Joff, Ramsay or now Dany try to out beat each others kill count. Sure but if one is doing nice thinks to enable tyranny and their own power that is really a recipe for disaster. Don't forget that while Margaery was playing nice with orphans it was essentially legitimizing the Lannister regime. And once they amassed all that power and sucked the love of the people dry what then? Not to mention it is usually a bad idea to have the people relying on their government so completely, especially when that government was as petty as the Great Lords of Westeros. And more of a general complaint but I also hold them personally responsible for the war of the Five Kings getting as bad as it was. They convinced Renly he would make a good king and convinced him to rebel against Stannis making an already complicated situation worse and the man was an idiot.

The smirking whore's helping of orphans is another one of her manipulation tricks. Throughout the show she does these tricks on anyone and everyone she gets near, from Renly, Joffrey, Tommen and others. Queen Cersei (RIP) saw through her right from the get-go. One of my favorite lines from the Queen. i.postimg.cc/HxmtmF2X/codex-heart.png

They convinced Renly he would make a good king and convinced him to rebel against Stannis making an already complicated situation worse and the man was an idiot. Yeah, Margaery is as complex as the rest of them. It's debatable if she was a genuinely good person but I'm not sure there's very many of those in the GOT world. There's no doubt she was politically suave and manipulated the love of the common folk and her marriages for her own agenda. As for the war of the five kings, it's a mess with a lot of blame to go around. Cersei and Jaimie for throwing the entire line into question while the former indirectly murders Robert, Baelish for killing Jon Arryn, Cat for capturing Tyrion causing Tywin's mobilization etc. They all had their motivations and parts to play, some worse then others. But what you said is fair, they helped stoke the flames. She's not a favorite, so I'm not going to die on a hill defending her but I still found her much more palatable when comparing her to the legitimate monsters of this particular world, can't help it.

I have no idea where the older seasons are cut, so cant say anything pertinent from 2 to 6, but i quite remember it was a (very) slow start before reaching the high level of writing/acting/producing we got for a few seasons. Then it was quite boring for a long while afair, all individual stories being quite stupid or useless while the main one was so slowed. I really liked the finish though and all S8 for the most part despite some lack of rythm in the first episodes
Fav chars could be in no particular order : Geoffrey, all lanisters in fact, the hound, tyrion's mercenary, both tyrell women, and many others not coming to mind

In the end me fav characters were
Hound Tyrion Sansa Olenna Cersei Varys Jon
The Hound overtook the imp on the final stretch. I say it was the overall best journey. Also big on top is Sansa for having quite a journey too. Daenerys isnt on top cos I never found her quest for throne so compelling. In comparison Sansas arc was much more rooted in the world and plot itself. She dint control the course - only later she mastered fate weaving.

So tough to narrow this down, but the characters I most adored:
Varys Hound Arya Bronn Tywin <-- the Lannisters are a cancer but he was one cool cat, I was bummed when he died Brienne Yara (Honestly one of the people I'd be most interested in for a spin-off) Drogon Ghost
Tough call between this tier and the next, so I'll squeeze in these two:
Jaimie Sansa (also didn't like her much at first, but she had a really nice arc over the series)
Tyrion was also someone in this top tier for me for a time but after killing his dad he became much less effective, even borderline incompetent. Dad was always the trump-card behind his schemes, he never really figured out how to get shit done without that massive advantage.
