Maybe people who wanted to see more about the Hero of Ferelden got their way by lobbying EA? Searching for the cure? I'll be more likely searching for place for me and my family to hide from EA Wish they would leave us alone...

I'll be more likely searching for place for me and my family to hide from EA Wish they would leave us alone... I'm thinking the Dragon Age franchise will go the way of say, GTA V. That started off with single player, but instead of making DLC (bank heist) and more content, or even GTA VI, nooo they just milk us all with online content for what, 6 years and counting now? Same with Bethesda's Elder Scrolls online . . . no new Elder Scrolls, just mp content. I'm just not feeling real good about DA's future at this point . . .

Remember when we kept playing a game to role play differently. Looks like EA is tired of seeing those of us still replaying Dragon Age Origins all these years later and they’re unable to make money off of it.
Screw EA. I’m not buying Anthem and I’m not buying a LIVE Dragon Age

If this is anything like Elder Scrolls Online, they can count me out. I can just imagine walking around Skyhold's courtyard and seeing other players with names like Solasluver98663 doing impromptu dance challenges. Anything that takes away from the immersion factor of being the main character in an epic story just doesn't work for me.

TOTAL SPECULATION FOLLOWS -- I'M NOT JASON SCHREIER (take that as you will)To me, the Kotaku article is the other shoe finally dropping. We know some significant change happened to DA in the Fall of 2017. I refuse to use the R-word to give more credence to Schreier, but if it makes you feel any better, Schreier is several months late "breaking" this change. The first hints were some sad/negative vibe tweets that were vague. I couldn't find them, but Hrungr had noted the trend (couldn't find that post either). Somewhere there was a tweet from Weekes that said something like, "This is a day that gives pause" or "This is a day to think about" or something like that. Again, sorry, couldn't find the tweet after reading through every post between September 21 and October 31. Then, Mike Laidlaw left: bsn.boards.net/post/903376Then, Patrick Weekes took a week off from Twitter: bsn.boards.net/post/910233Then (I think I have the sequence of this right, but couldn't find the tweets), there were EA executives in Edmonton for a meeting with the DA team. Maybe this happened earlier? Then these cryptic tweets: bsn.boards.net/post/914134So my reconstruction of events is that Laidlaw and probably Darrah were given an early look at how EA corporate wanted to make changes for live services, in preparation for briefing the entire team on the change. Either Laidlaw strenuously objected to the new direction and was fired over it, or he resigned over it. Whether Weekes was read-in at the same time or after Laidlaw left is unclear, but I suspect he was read in and took a week off from Twitter. Then the rest of the team was informed and we got those cryptic tweets. The gif from Mike Gamble is particularly telling, IMO. What are more live services about, if not recurring revenue? I probably have the EA visit out of order, or maybe there were two visits, but October 26, 2017 is a pretty clear watershed moment.

Are we really speculating 3-4 more years of game development What's 84 more years of waiting?! I'm sure the elixir for eternal life and youth will be found before DA4 releases.

Either Laidlaw strenuously objected to the new direction and was fired over it, or he resigned over it. Can't comment on this specifically but I'll give you something tangential: When Dragon Age: Inquisition shipped, we had someone on our staff leave despite really enjoying the job and the company. The reason for this was super simple, when you work on a continual franchise, when you start thinking about the prospect of working on the sequel you have to be okay with saying: "I'm going to be here for another X years working on this same thing". Sometimes people just want a change for the sake of novelty, even when they're happy. So, not saying this is exactly Mike's reasoning, because that's his business (you could probably find him at a con and ply him with drinks until he tells you ), but it's definitely something that is more common than one might think, especially on long running franchises.

Fernando Melo DiscoBabaloo Retweeted Casey Hudson Also, fwiw, every single DA game to date has had "live elements" of some sort ppl :/ Emma abilitydrain : So the game is still definitely an RPG and hasn't been rebooted into a different genre? Fernando Melo DiscoBabaloo: prob still yrs away so things could change. but everything i'm aware of points to it being "a DA game" (tm) Well, that's something at least. "A DA Game" "prob still yrs away"

I'm not sure I'll be able to stomach 2+ years of people debating what a live service is and what impact that will have on DA. We so desperately need something positive to speculate about...a title, images, description, trailer, anything!

There are only so many times I can replay the first three games. 😂 I'm so desperate for more DA I caught myself watching Redemption and Dawn of the Seeker the other day. i'm greedy and impatient, sshhhh

Well as long as there are other singleplayer RPGs coming, I don't think the wait for DA4 will be THAT bad, especially if we get teasers next year.
