Are you seeing the backlash to the new Star Wars movies? We are so not getting into a Star Wars discussion in here, please.

Did you just assume my race and gender you racist sexist bigot? Sure, half a century ago they did have a problem with depictions of minorities but I hate to break it to you but we have moved on since then, nowdays very few people have a problem with a minority lead and strong women and honestly you are more likely to cop flak for NOT being diverse enough even when your game is set in 15th century Bohemia Uh, NO IT'S NOT BETTER. It's just not as socially acceptable. Are you seeing the backlash to the new Star Wars movies? I believe the backlash is mostly because they suck and not because people hate women and minorities

I believe the backlash is mostly because they suck and not because people hate women and minorities Well yes, TLJ sucks... but you clearly haven't been on Youtube for the "Anti-SJW" rants. Which unfortunately have co-opted the conversation, and since they "seem" to be the loudest and most prevalent will be what most people associate with "Star Wars Fans."

It's just not as socially acceptable. Are you seeing the backlash to the new Star Wars movies? (I dislike TLJ myself, but not for "wha wha SWJs!" reasons) Whitewashing still happens, and is still defended up the wahzoo. I say again: if a particular concept or minority isn't "forced," they'll never happen. Quality ethnic and women's parts are STILL scrutinized to the point of abuse, despite their relative rarity in media, this one especially. EDIT: Not turning this into a Star Wars discussion I would say the situation is most certainly better these days (Note, I said better, not all fixed) Part of the problem is the way minority representation is used as a promotional tool. You say ethnic and women’s parts are scrutinized to the point of abuse, this is partly why. Studios, media, and directors make a point to make their diversity a focal point for publicity, so of course the roles in question get more scrutiny than they otherwise would. And that same promotional focus can also turn those roles into a focal point of backlash against the work in question, as it becomes easy to think the creators were more interested in getting attention by emphasizing their diversity rather than by the quality of their production.

That's mostly because there's actual money in diversity (genuine and pandering alike). And most of these companies want to do as little possible work for maximum monetary returns, and they've seen how spending trends are going. But without this "money pandering," the situation for minorities of any classification will NEVER improve. I want better quality for diverse casting, but that's never how it happens. This is how we got over stereotypical depictions of African Americans, it's how we'll get over pretty much everything else. Pandering first, only after will quality come. We're still only about thirty years old as a medium, and movies are still screwing it up and they've been around over a century.

Yeah anti-sjw not anti woman or anti minority, in fact a lot if not most sjws are straight white males acting as the virtuous ally that nobody asked for, needed or wanted. But I do agree a lot of the anti-sjw stuff is almost getting as bad as the SJWs themselves, "those who hunt monsters" eh?

People have forced Kelly Train (TLJ Rose) off of twitter for how toxic it's gotten, and the "criticism" videos... aren't pretty, to say the least. The word "agenda" gets thrown around alot, and well...

Pretty sure they were attacking Kelly Marie Tran because they did not like the character she played not because she was a woman or a minority, Star Wars fans can be brutal savages, just ask Jake Lloyd (who is a straight white male BTW) what they thought of his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker.

Can't exactly get more racist/inflammatory than "Fat Asian Bitch" or "Shrek," both of which have been seen prolific use.
Edit: I do agree that the grievances with Rose as a character came first, but as I said have been co-opted by the bigots.

As little as I care about this whole Battlefield controversy I can see how those comments would piss people off. Calling people uneducated for saying that is not historically accurate to portray women fighting on the front lines is not only insulting but as far as I can see is blatantly wrong, now I will admit I am not a huge WW2 history buff and there are probably a lot of gaps in my knowledge however as far as I know there are no reports of women fighting on the front lines (especially none with prosthetic robot arms) except in Russia, and while I don't really know which country the soldiers show are supposed to be fighting for I am fairly certain they aren't Russian. While I don't particularly care if EA want's to rewrite history to make WW2 more progressive in regards to gender representation I don't think you can still market the game as "historically accurate" and call those who question the claim "uneducated". Honestly I think the comment was made specifically to piss people off just so they can point at the backlash and go "look at all these people who hate women!" I'm not particularly knowledgeable myself on any of the great wars in particular, but I can say this - women in general have occasionally participated in warfare, either directly as generals or warriors or indirectly as messengers and spies. I know of at least two women who participated in the civil war in Vendée in France during the French Revolution, and at least one of the women never hid her gender but was accepted nonetheless (she was quite a bad-ass that one!). So my verdict on the matter would be possible but not likely.

I've also heard that EA treats their employees like garbage. Though there have been links suggesting that they treat them well. (If anyone can find the link about EA treating their employees well, I would appreciate it.)

Well, we do know that Bioware itself has gotten some Canadian awards for being a top employer - I guess it can depend on where in EA people are working.

EA is kind'a tricky, because they don't make their own games anymore. EA proper will treat people like garbage (as in, these are your orders, don't question them and you must work X amount of overtime) and they prolly do treat their employees very well.
