It would have to be really distant past....or how about the far distant future? Those damned Magisters really made a mess of things. I fully expect a DA and/or ME Easter egg or two...which will be cited as "proof." Yeah, I'm thinking it could be tens to hundreds of thousands of years (or more). While it could be the future, the lore says the gods abandoned this world before it was finished, which leads me to believe it's set in the distant past. Another reason is in the Trespasser DLC, we stumble across that ancient civilization of dwarves (Sha-Brytol), and they're packing machine guns and earthshakers. Weapons that behave like advanced tech, but aren't... just like in Anthem. The farther back in time we go, the more advanced everyone seems. But there's other interesting parallels... Native human population (not from Earth). World with 2 moons (just like Thedas). "Technology" powered by magic, not microchips. Javelins that are essentially fantasy classes. The Gods (Shapers) abandoned the world (parallels to the Maker). A name which also carries over to the dwarves. Giant spiders, Titans, Wyverns, a Swarm Tyrant that looks like Blinky's cousin. Runes that are read off the walls. The parallels with sound/music "Echoes of Creation" "Silencing" Relics (Titans, the Blight). And if I'm really going down this rabbit hole, this "Anthem of Creation" sounds suspiciously like "The Stone". Well technically I’d say it’s more similar to the Fade (though one could theorize that the Stone may just be a different side of the same coin). I’d like to point out that life and magic in Thedas is oftentimes compared to or downright called SINGING.

I'm still not sold on this, I need to know there is an actual story I can be invested in but having only seen a stronghold (which is off the crit path) it tells me nothing. I also want to see what RPG elements there are.
Now perfect the engine and give me ME:A2 looking that polished and we'll be cooking with gas 😉
EDIT:
I just reread this and saw how negative it looks.
I like that BioWare are trying new things and innovating, it's just not my sort of game and that's ok

I presume the 3 BioWare players 'carried' the press representatives through the 100x demos. Must have practiced a great deal...

Alot of flashy stuff, no real substance I think... Outside of the flying the gameplay looks generic, no interesting abilities and combos. As expected no real story content either but that isn't the purpose of the video. That said, this demo should have been shown in E3.

OK, I think I'm officially out... So are my Mass Effect buddies.
This looks like something made for 12 year old boys. Stunning visuals, sure, but the gameplay still looks boring AF to the three of us. Very static.
The mission commentary is SAM level of generic captain obvious stuff.
That heavy mech suit is the ugliest thing I've seen in a while and the gameplay of that thing is stand and shoot... or hover and shoot... great.... maybe they should have picked one of the more agile suits.
Flying looks boring too. No spins or anything? Just flying in a straight line?! How exciting...
Call it confirmation bias at this point but there is NOTHING of interest to me in the gameplay. We felt like turning the video off halfway through it. Nothing inetresting happening. It's Andromeda all over again for me. Except this time it's a new franchise so I don't really care.
This is not an exploration shooter like Fallout I would have enjoyed. It's nothing but a mob hunting game on a big map but doesn't even look exciting like HZD did. At least that's what it looks like. Fly to objective marker, kill things. Rinse and repeat.
It all looks railroaded.
I'm OUT.

Maybe I’m missing something, but what in this demo looks any more railroaded or boring than your average Mass Effect level/combat? By this I mean, what else is there to do but kill things? MEA's open world had nothing to explore. Just because there's lush vegetation now, doesn't mean there's anything to do but shoot stuff. And that is boring to me. Obviously this is a game ONLY about combat as a Destiny clone and this is fine. Just not something I want to play. And this video pretty much confirmed that there is nothing it it for me. Not even the tiniest hook anymore at this point aside from the feeling I should be interested in it because they slapped the Bioware name on it. I do not want to play a sidequest only version of FO4 because the boring combat loop was the worst part about that game. I'm not saying this game is trash and nobody should enjoy it. I hope the game sells well. I wish I could have found something to like but there's nothing. So that's a bit disappointing.

It all looks railroaded. I'm OUT. Maybe I’m missing something, but what in this demo looks any more railroaded or boring than your average Mass Effect level/combat? I do feel like the gameplay may have been reactive rather than the long-term plan, though I wouldn't say it was bad. For me the turn off was that the game didn't really seem to have much direction, just go to a place, kill monsters, rinse, repeat. That being said you can't really tell from such a small amount of footage. It's worth remembering BioWare has built a fan base of people that want a deep story with expansive RPG mechanics but this new game is aiming to balance that with it being simple enough for mass adoption, I don't think most people don't care for a deep lore driven narrative. This will make some of the old fans unhappy but that's a gamble BioWare has made and as I said earlier this particular game is not for me but that's ok.

Why did they not show this at EAPLay? Sports games I understand cause it's EA but command and conquer? a strategy for the next gen? LMAO, what the hell. Anyway, that looked awesome, and a nice look at the characters too... kinda but I like what I see, want to see more of Fort Tarsis though but yeh, looking good.

Maybe I’m missing something, but what in this demo looks any more railroaded or boring than your average Mass Effect level/combat? You are missing nothing, and that's a major problem. Unlike ME, this game is multiplayer only and the "RPG" elements happen in the Fort. So, the combat world is for combat. In ME, the combat world is the game world, and it carries the RPG elements inside it. The more I think about what I've seen, I cannot see myself buying this. It is looter shooter, with a separate gameworld for storytelling. Right now, I see the main portion of the game, the combat world, as rinse and repeat mini-game that is just large and shiny. They will have to make more demos, with more gameplay than this, or start tweaking things significantly, or I feel this will not go well for our favorite game maker.

Plus, not sure if y'all noticed this ....
At 14:45-15:03, it says nothing about the 'lore, items, and materials' except for the little magnifying glass right next to it.
I'm more than willing to bet that the lore of this game is entirely web based. Another similarity to Destiny.

Well, this 12 year-old (going onto 50-something) is looking forward to it. I have every reason to believe that story, character and lore content is there in ample measure.

Man, Western Developers have it rough. Not trying to say people shouldn't feel skeptical about a game, but some of the complaints I'm seeing here about the gameplay could be leveled at other games that have gotten significantly better reception in the publics eyes.
"You kill a couple monsters, kill a bigger monster, get loot, rinse and repeat"
That complaint could literally be leveled at Monster Hunter World, but that game got off easy (and I don't even think that's a bad thing). I'm gonna just wait until the Fall comes - where they said they'll be releasing more info/gameplay - rather than making up my opinions on the game now.
EDIT: This isn't me being aggravated at anyone. It's obvious this game isn't going to appeal to a subset of Bioware fans, and no one should feel pressured into having to buy it/play it. I just think that it really shows how people treat a similar mechanic that is used by two different developers.

"The Freelancers are the brave few who go out into the wild and face danger head-on. The can do this because they are equipped with powerful Javelin exo-suits. These Javelins are handcrafted and passed on from generation to generation to allow those who have them to go out into the wilds and feel superheroic."
Sheesh! Can they at least lead with the backstory provided?

The only reason people are expressing these things, at least in my case, is not to complain about BioWare but rather it's an observation of what the game is and, therefore, a reason they won't be getting it.

I hear you man. If it helps, my tone probably didn't probably didn't convey what I was getting at. It's really just the juxtaposition between how audiences handle to separate developers and two separate IP's. That quote is simply meant to convey how some people are willing to be more forgiving of one game than another. I looked at the comments for the video posted in the thread, and many people echoed those same complaints; so it really isn't meant towards you (I saw your earlier posts). I can't expect you to like this particular genre, and you feel like you need to. For me, the takeaway I get from all of this is that this really shows: 1) How much people expect a dev to stay in their own wheelhouse 2) How goodwill can go a long way in people giving you the benefit of the doubt, or patience. 3) How harshly people will judge you by the publisher you're under.
