Though I'm not interested in the game I hope it doesn't fail as I believe Bioware have had enough troubles as of late and it would be nice t osee something go right for them for once as they do make good games generally.

I don't care about the game however I hope it won't fail hard to put BW in trouble but I also hope it won't be a colossal success as to make it a trend that EA will push down our throat in the rest of BW titles. I certainly do not want Anthem: Mass Effect edition.

I certainly do not want Anthem: Mass Effect edition. The thing is to me Anthem is the answer to all the people that wanted a co-operative Mass Effect game after each of the first three games. You kept hearing about how great it would be and how they would make more sales if a person could play with their friends. Anthem seems to be pretty much what I imagine with a game designed around having co-operative play due to different restrictions and how development time would be spent. You have your central hub where you always go back to for missions instead of the Normandy and travel to different locations to complete your objectives which if flying around the world map. Then you are picking gear and other weapon drops for an inventory system like Mass Effect 1. The only thing that you cannot do is have a friend playing Miranda while the two of them bang in the engine room.

I don't get this "should it fail" nonsense. I'm a fan of good games, not a game studio loyalist.

I honestly think part of it boils down to people wanting to get revenge on EA for what they've done in recent years, while the other part of it is revenge for what happened to Andromeda and the ME3 Ending. Personally, for as much as I get Andromeda turned out to be a mediocre game, people need to stop acting as if AAA developers can't make a piss-poor game from time to time. Hell, based on metacritic scores, this is the only Bioware game that's dropped below an 80% (and no, I don't want to count Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood). If people really want to see how badly a AAA game can get, just look at what happened when Square Enix originally release FFXIV. The game got absolutely tarnished, had support dropped, and was pulled from store shelves. Admittedly, they went back to the drawing board and made another version that turned into a much better MMO. I don't understand the whole revenge on EA angle some people have for the simple fact EA doesn't act alone when it comes to making money first decisions. Snip
Probably because: (1) EA is very high profile and well known company. (2) EA was voted the worst company twice (if memory serves correctly). (3) EA committed a cardinal sin and got caught by REDDIT user(s) which has a huge number of registered gamers.
(4) EA/DICE reps blatantly lied trying to explain the pay-2-win game mechanics which infuriated users even more.
(5) EA's past and empty platitudes of "we love gamers", "we listen to gamers", "we heard you.." ... etc came back to haunt them. (6) EA maybe used a beloved "children's game" that got caught in a loot box gambling controversy.

How does that explain away my point of other publishers and developers doing the same things? EA has committed sins of course, but other publishers have as well. Valve ignored a request from the Washington State Gambling Commission to end transactions for the items used for gambling, but Valve ignored them. Wouldn't that put them on par with that #6 of yours since an actual gaming commission was ignored by Valve? How about Blizzard altering their lootboxes to sidestep a Chinese law requiring odds to be presented with lootboxes. Those things are barely mentioned on the internet versus EA, so honestly the internet is full of hypocrites when it comes to the evils of EA versus the cherished few everywhere else.

EA is the 500 pound gorilla on the scene which means their egregious acts make a bigger imprint than some of the smaller studios that embrace pay to win, such as Bigpoint. Bethesda pisses off gamers often, but the issues with them don't involve a shit lootbox system.

EA is the 500 pound gorilla on the scene which means their egregious acts make a bigger imprint than some of the smaller studios that embrace pay to win, such as Bigpoint. Bethesda pisses off gamers often, but the issues with them don't involve a shit lootbox system. I never mentioned Bigpoint or Bethesda. Bethesda only scams people with their season passes by jacking up the price and then only delivering two story DLC as "great content" by conning people into buying it before the $10 price hike or their microtransaction system that you must install regardless of your interest in virtual currency that doesn't match up with the prices they set. I pointed out what Valve and Blizzard did when it came to bypassing gaming laws. I don't see people hanging onto those things into the next games like people do with EA. Even now I rarely see bad past practices of Activision being brought to light over Modern Warfare 4 where they still have lootboxes and all DLC must be purchased as part of a Season Pass. That was after bundling in their most famous game in the past as part of a "premium edition" of another Call of Duty game and that only changed when the game stopped selling. Adding insult to injury they then did release all the DLC from the original release as DLC again, but just at a higher price. The only place I have seen that mentioned is with Jim Sterling. Gamers have a long memory for EA, but forget a lot of what the other publishers have done.

I hope it is the most critically accalimed game Bioware ever made, just to spite people who make topics like these. The vocal minority you claim to be so grand is on the left hand side of the IQ normalised distribution anyway. Nobody of matter cares. Mentions IQ. Spells incorrectly. Your post is butthurt. I also hope it is the best game they have ever made. I would buy it! I think it might be ok.

All I know is I'm not interested in playing it, and I'll take whatever outcome results in BioWare making games I actually want to play.
If they stop making those games, then I don't care what happens to them.

Well it depends on how large is the Destiny crowd and how much do they trust EA... They have been burned by Destiny 2 so there's that. Also there is Warframe where Epic Game's approach is much more consumer friendly than anything EA might churn out so I doubt they will be very interested in Anthem.

I hope it doesn't fail. I think anyone thinking "Oh, if Anthem fails then Bioware will go back to making RPG's like ME1 and DA like I like the most!" clearly hasn't looked at EA's strategy over the last decade. If Bioware fails again and Anthem is a flop, I'm pretty sure that will be it for the studio. They might allow for another Dragon Age, but Bioware would be severely crippled and downsized, I think, if not obliterated all-together.
I would like Anthem to succeed, because honestly it looks interesting and fun and I really want things to go well for Bioware. From watching more unbiased gaming-news lately (not Bioware focused), there is a good amount of excitement (or at least interest) in the general community for Anthem that I believe that if Bioware pulls it off, it will succeed.
I doubt there are enough people mad at Bioware for doing something new (and claiming to boycott the game as a result) to impact sales to any significant degree.

Precisely that's why I said I hope it doesn't fail because even though I don't like MMO's I don't think I want the future's of Dragon Age or Mass Effect put at any further risk. Otherwise it's very possible we may see the end of both these 2 series as well. Also given I've loved what Bioware have done with these 2 universes and their stories I want to see games like these continue to come out of Bioware because they make for fantastic single player experiences which is more than I can say for many developers that seem to have switched their attention to MP games. Admittedly Anthem is straying away from the Bioware norm a little but I don't begrudge them trying something different every now and then as long as they remember where their strengths are
