Let’s address the elephant in the room. Unlike the previous two DA games there quite a few points in DAI that make no sense. I suppose the writers/developers had a case of memory loss and/or they simply did not double-check their work.
Here are a few head-scratches that bothered me. Feel free to add your own. And of course if you want to try and explain any of these – be my guest.
Red Lyrium – In (my) DA2 Varric did not keep the shard. Yet in DAI Varric says, “The only piece to make to the surface was destroy.” Uh…. what? Varric you do recall that Meredith turned the idol into a sword which caused her to go crazy; then later she turned into a red lyrium lump. Then the way Varric talks, “It took years for the people in Kirkwall to become infected but no one there was actually ingesting the stuff.” It sounds as if Kirkwall did not recover after the events in DA2 and that the people and the city are gone because of Red Lyrium, yet Varric becomes Viscount later. Um. Oh Maker what a mess the Red Lyrium text in DAI is.
Cory so much Cory - When trying to understand this mess of a so-called villain my head hurts.
How the hell did Cory manage to enter the Conclave without being seen AND how did he know exactly which part of the Conclave the Divine would be?
If Cory can fly, why the hell did he not just fly up into the Breech and if his magic flight was only short distance why not use the dragon instead?
Cory has his followers run around seeking out Elven Ruins. Yet at the end of the game Cory uses the orb again to open the Breech. Wait. I thought the anchor was the sole power of unlocking or locking the Breech? So if the anchor is removed from the orb how is said artifact even useful? Does the orb have an unlimited supply of anchors? Beyond that if Cory new the orb was still useful to unlock The Breech why did he not do shortly after the failure at the Conclave?
Um. Why the hell would Solas give Cory his orb? If Solas was too weak to unlock it after his slumber why not wait till later?!? Solas’s takes everything from Mythal. BOOM! Enough power to use your orb.
Shortly after the Conclave explosion- at Haven- Solas wants to recover the artifact that was used to create the Breech yet it was not known at the time what caused it.
Marquis Du’Rellion: Says he sees no written records from Divine Justina allowing Sister Lilly or Seeker Cassie to form the Inquisition. Yet in the previous scene Cassie slams a book down on the War Table telling Roderick this is a writ from the Divine giving them the authority to act.
King Alistair: Tells Fiona she and her followers are no longer welcome in Feredlan yet Haven IS in Fereldan.
Bull and Demands of the Qun: This is just ridiculous. Why couldn’t The Chargers back off or hold the line for a few short moments while my group slides down the hill. We kill the Vints, The Chargers are saved and so is the Dreadnought.
The Viddasala: Why does she have a giant phone book hanging off her shoulder?!? If it’s supposed to be the Tome of Koslum I find it hard to believe such an important relic which be attached to a Qunari like an accessory piece.
The Anchor: The “Divine” in the Fade says, “The anchor is a part of you and cannot be removed until your death.” Yet later your hand is removed and your character is perfectly fine. Um. What? But I was told…. ugh never mind.
Samson/ Calpernia: Depending on which side you choose (which was also stupid) what happens to the other commander?!? Do they just walk off and get a pumpkin latte at Starbucks? Why couldn’t we go after both factions? If you side with Mages it’s not like the Vints vanish from the game and vise versa.
New Divine Election: Why is Vivienne even a candidate for the Sunburst Throne? I get Cassie and Lilly but I see no reason for Vivienne. Furthermore why the hell is there not a War Table Mission to support Lilly!?!?
Cole and a Vint: I sided with the Mages thus Red Templars are marching on Haven. Yet after opening the gate to meet Cole he is killing a Vint not a Red Templar. Maybe the Templar uniform was at the dry cleaners?
Solas and his Staves: During the singing seen Solas is seen with Orsino's staff. Yet when viewing Skyhold he is seen holding Tyra's Staff. Um. Does he have a staff collection? Can he not make up his mind which to use? Pick one Solas!
The Fear Demon and Hawke: We have to choose between leaving Hawke or the Warden behind. Um. Its a giant spider, why can't we kill the damn thing? Oh sure we can go out and kill a dozen High Dragons but a giant demon spider? Oh no of course not.
Then Hawke is like, "Cory is mine." Uh sweetie that is not Cory that is a Demon Spider. Earlier Hawke was like, "Cory is my responsibility. I thought I killed him once before, this time I'll make sure of it." Later...leaves to go to Weisshaupt. And I'm staring at my screen saying out loud, "Um Hawke...Cory is still alive...we can send a messenger bird...<sighs> . "

OK, let's unpack this one at a time:
First off, Varric has different dialogue if you preserved the red lyrium shard in DA2. You may have not chosen that option in the Keep, or you may have hit a bug.

Cory so much Cory:
We don't know Corypheus got into the Conclave, but it's possible he just slaughtered his way in. It's not as though anyone there could have stopped him.
There is only one Orb and one Mark. The Orb gave Corypheus the power to create the Breach, but he needs the Mark that was accidentally attached to the Inquisitor to actually survive the transition.
That's why at the end you kill Corypheus by opening a Fade Rift. The Fade literally consumes him.
As for why Solas gave the orb to Corypheus, he explains that in Trespasser. He was too weak to unlock the orb on his own after centuries of sleeping, so he let Corypheus "find" the orb. The plan was for Cory to unlock it and then die in the resulting explosion; Solas would then swoop in and snatch it up. But Corypheus survived the explosion due to his body surfing ability and he took the orb.

TO answer a few of them: Red Lyrium: According to Varric, the Gallows was sealed off to prevent the spread of red lyrium into the rest of Kirkwall. If Sebastian stayed with you to teh end in DA2, there is a War Mission where he sends aid to Kirkwall and the Inquisition can help clear out the red stuff The Orb: It's entirely possible the Orb could have created another Anchor, but would likely take a prohibitive amount of time. Cory said you interfered with a ritual "years in the making" Solas fully intended Cory to die in the explosion caused by unlocking the ORb, then saunter over and claim it himself. He did not realize at the time that Cory had mastered Body Surfing. Solas also knew the whole time what artifact caused the Breach and that it wasn't destroyed. HE was using you (and the Inquisition) from the very start. Demands of teh Qun: Gameplay and Story segregation. THere are, presumably a lot more Vints out there than we are shown. More than the Charger or even the Inquisitor in all his/her awesomeness can handle. Viddasala: Face it, very little about Qunari armor makes sense The Anchor: Well, the Inquisitor is "perfectly fine" except for the minor detail of MISSING AN ARM!!! The faction you go after is apparently greatly weakened by your actions. The leader of said faction is likely at best out of favor with Cory and at worst dead. Vivienne: She's a candidate because she's part of your Inner Circle and connected to the Chantry you do have to take specific actions to make it happen, though. THere is no War TAble mission to support Leliana, however, just agreeing to support her nets you as much support as actually doing the mission for the other two. SOlas and his staves: Maybe Solas has an inventory too, and just didn't tell you? He seems to do that a lot

The boss you'd just finished killing was supposed to be a tiny fraction of its power, right? If so, I think why you can't kill the damn thing is fairly obvious.

As someone, who has had experience with panic attacks in the past, I know, how powerful fear can be - it's one of the reasons, I like this quest a lot: because the almighty inquisitor is not able to simply kill Fear. It's like Lovecrafts 'Great Old Ones' or Stephen Kings 'It' - a thing too powerful to be understood by the simple humanoid mind.

King Alistair:
Haven is in the Frostbacks and they sit on the border between Ferelden and Orlais. As you yourself noted, Marquis Durellion - an Orlesian - owns the land.
New Divine Election: Vivienne was a prominent member of the Orlesian Court and Circle of Magi. Thus, she has as much a claim as Cassandra or Leliana.

Didn't Josephine say that he owned it through marriage to a Ferelden noblewoman, and would need to get the Ferelden Crown to sign off on his ownership before he acted as the owner? I think the reason is that Haven is so remote that he didn't care that they were technically on his land, since he was trying to get them away from his people and his people weren't in that area.

Josie says to claim Haven, Empress Celene would have to negotiate with Ferelden on his behalf.
As I said, it's a bit of a gray area.

There's nothing mysterious about it given how the Fade echoes the thoughts and emotions of people.

I wasn't talking about the game mechanism, but about the feeling itself and how the complexity of fear was shown in the fact, that you are unable as a player to kill it, because there will always be fear. Fear itself is very complex and mysterious.

Fear itself is very complex and mysterious. You think so? It's a survival mechanism, solidly grounded in evolution, and we fear more than we'd need to because false-positives may give us a (figurative) heart attack but won't kill us, but false-negatives certainly will. So we are the offspring of those who feared more rather than less - and survived as a consequence. As usual, evolved mechanisms can be co-opted by other important aspects of our lives, and so there are now even more immaterial things we can come to fear, triggered by ancient imprints or cultural phenomena. Fear may appear complex because it pervades our existence, and because it's ancient, not every instance can be easily explained so far, but at the bottom it's a simple phenomenon. You may think that this is all theoretical, but this knowledge has actually helped me overcome fear in the past. There is no "Great Old One" analogue here, and understanding brings power.

Sure, but the mages weren't aligned with the Inquisition yet. Had the Inquisitor not offered to take in the mages to aid them to deal with the breach, then Fiona and her followers would just have to flee the country. Alistair states: "I'd take that offer if I were. One way or another your leaving my kingdom."
-Red Lyrium as I said is a mess and no my game nor my Keep are bugged. Seabass was not with me til the end of DA2. He cried big sobby tears and marched back to StarkHaven.
-I meant health wise.
- Speculation. Not actual proof. And furthermore does not explain why we cannot get after both factions.
-Ugh! I know why Solas gave his Orb to Cory. My overall point is why the hell would you trust some ancient darkspawn magister instead of just waiting.
-Again I know Solas was using the Inquisition that "Artifact line" could have been a flub by the writers or to possibility give the player a sense of if Solas knows something more. Again I was seeking an answer not the obvious being stated.
-Again speculation. Yes there was a large group of Vints walking towards the Chargers but its nothing the Inquisition could not handle.
-(Grumbles) I know how to make Vivienne Divine. And yes she is part of my Inner Circle. Yes she is part of the Circle and the Nobility. But considering she is a mage why would she still be up for the the candidacy?!? The Chantry was pissed my character was a Mage so why turn around and have one as an option?? Samson/ Calpernia: Depending on which side you choose (which was also stupid) what happens to the other commander?!? Do they just walk off and get a pumpkin latte at Starbucks? Why couldn’t we go after both factions? If you side with Mages it’s not like the Vints vanish from the game and vise versa.
Cole and a Vint: I sided with the Mages thus Red Templars are marching on Haven. Yet after opening the gate to meet Cole he is killing a Vint not a Red Templar. Maybe the Templar uniform was at the dry cleaners?
In all likelihood, Corypheus kills the lieutenant who failed him. There are also a few Venatori in the Red Templar army marching on Haven if you watched that cutscene carefully. Yes, but that doesn't explain why they are there. And before you say, "Well to destroy Haven" I know that. But if a few could be there why not the rest or none all together. And I've seen that cut scene numerous times and never saw any extra Vints, only Red Templars. Even used flycam and zoomed around and did not see any other then the one Cole stabs. ******** Look, I'm not trying to be an asshole here, but I am just going to say this: Just because I am new member here does not mean I bought the game yesterday. I've played every signal DA game more times then I can count on my fingers and toes. When playing these games or any games I enjoy picking apart the main story to see if the thread continues without being severed. Thus I posted those I found wrong with DAI.
I do appreciate the responses and the involvement of those in this discussion but many of the responses are nothing more then speculations not straight forward answers.

Well, that and it's the size of a fricking mountain. Uh. So?
Be a nice change to fight a mountain sized spider.
Yes, Yes the boss you fought before was an "Aspect of Fear." But its still a damn demon. Hell just spray a bunch of Raid and stab the damn thing.

And you think you're going to win against a mountain sized spider? There isn't enough Raid for that on the planet. The point I was trying to make was that the end-boss of the encounter, which at least in my case usually burns the last of my potions, was a mere Aspect of that thing you think you can kill. The thing you did kill has nowhere near the power of the mountain-sized main creature. Unless you managed to completely break the game to the point where that boss died in one round I'm not even sure why you think you have a snowball's chance in hell, and even if you did there's still gameplay and story segregation to consider.

Well, that was, what our fear discussion was mostly about - that fear is a stronger emotion and therefore not represented in a simple 'stab and repeat'-demon. The giant spider was an aspect of fear too. It is explained in the questline and it's codex entry: Beware the fear demon that gorges upon the terror of not only a single nightmare but of a nation, for it will grow to such a size that it dominates the Fade. —From a lecture by renowned templar, Ser Hayward (quoted from dragonage.wiki dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Fear_demon). It was made clear, that 'our' fear demon was the fade-dominating variety, so it would, in my opinion, be a bit unbelievable, if we could defeat that with six characters, even if they are great fighters.

This ain't God of War. If you watch the cutscene closely, you'll notice that Stroud/Loghain/Hawke/Alistair goes down in about 10 seconds. The only ridiculous part about that cutscene is Mage Hawke attacking Nightmare with their staff. Now THAT is senseless.

Dear sweet Maker! What are your characters wearing? Charmin? I have yet to use a single pot in that fight. Uh. So?

I've watched that cut scene numerous times and not once did I ever see the person drop in 10 seconds. Of course it could be glitched on my end or yours.
Well Dorian attacks two shades with his staff too. Then add in the fact your character cannot beat someone senseless with their staff.
*****
And I get it about the Fear Spider. No need to drill it in my head like a railway spike. I still however disagree. But that could be because I really like fighting huge monsters. Better then fighting freaking hyenas or bears all the sodding time.

The fear demon itself and the mechanism by which it gets its power is actually fairly easy to understand. It's just impossible to destroy, and that fact is also easy to understand. There's nothing mysterious about it given how the Fade echoes the thoughts and emotions of people. You misunderstood my meaning or I might have been unclear: How the fear demon works might be easy to understand, but there is nothing easy about fear itself. I wasn't talking about the game mechanism, but about the feeling itself and how the complexity of fear was shown in the fact, that you are unable as a player to kill it, because there will always be fear. Fear itself is very complex and mysterious. Indeed, this was no ordinary fear demon. It is the Nightmare. A demon that specifically feeds off fear of the Blight and of darkspawn. Meaning it's been able to gorge itself for a thousand years and has become very powerful indeed.
