This is intended to be a handy threat about materials with a general discussion about the joys of collecting such materials ("Elfroot Syndrome") attached. We know material collection will be thing in crafting. I don't have any images of materials other than this awful fuzzy image of some mineral, but we can swap it out once we have better. Known materials: NOTE: I'm only referencing what is known from public gameplay and livestream information, not the Closed alpha.

There are more sparkling things, like the mineral, in other videos. In fact, sparkling things have been around since the very first gameplay shown with the "chest" (which I believe also gave materials).
I am also slightly offended with calling this the "Elfroot Syndrome", something normal shouldn't be called a syndrome. Yes, I find it normal to pick everything that isn't nailed down and horde it in a video game. I do it all the time.

It's the hinterland all over again Didn't Dragon Age Inquisition have a materials exploit that led to some being very upset when it was patched? I presume a server-based game would be more immune to such things?

I have a love hate relationship with arpg's. On one hand they can be fun for awhile if you just want to mindlessly kill stuff but I get board of the loot grind quite easily. Probably why I utterly loathe Galactic Command is SW:TOR so much.

I do not like that you have to press a button to open the resource node, and then wait for the material to...materialize. It can easily lead to a break in movement flow where you have to stop and wait for the mats rather than just keep on truckin. It should be press X to open, mat appears in your inventory. We'll see if things change.

I guess if your radius is large enough that you can open the node and pick it up by the time it drops that would work for smooth collection, but you would need a pretty significant increase over the base level.

Did the dev said that "loot" would pick itself at the end of a missions? Not sure if that included crafting material but I don't see why it wouldn't, especially if it is a enemy drop.

All this talk of loot.... The single most boring played out thing in all of videogames.
I liked getting loot when I was playing PnP games. Then, I enjoyed getting loot in video game adaptations of PnP games.
I've been looting for years. Tired of it. Gameplay and story, fuck the loot.
So, yes, I am tired of Elfroot Syndrome and I hope modern developers take the opportunity to raise their game. Of course, the suits will never allow this.
The more I watch footage, and think about the game, the less interested I am.

The more I watch footage, and think about the game, the less interested I am. Yeah I'm inclined to agree. Don't get me wrong I had fun with the alpha and the gameplay was there and what story we got to play seemed interesting. However after seeing the loot livestream, for want of a better description I'm seriously thinking if I want to buy Anthem because I can do without another endless loot grind. I'm asking myself once I've completed all the story missions would I even play Anthem? Probably not, sad to say because chasing loot gets boring. Still will give the open demo a go all the same.

Still will give the open demo a go all the same. Me too They have done plenty enough for me to check it out and try it. The only "grind" I have ever done is ME3MP, and that annoyed me at the time. That grind is tiny compared to some games released since by ahem multiple companies. Not my cup of tea. The Iron Man-sim aspect in Freeplay; that alone makes me lean toward a purchase at some point. It remains to be seen how much I pay and when.

WE REQUIRE MORE MINERALS!!!
I'm fine with material collection as long as the material collection animation is quick as possible. I think Warframe did it pretty well actually, as it collects the materials automatically after you break the container boxes, but I'm not sure how well it will work in Anthem because Warframe levels are much more cramped than Anthem's vast open world.

Only loot above a certain rarity gets auto-collected for delivery post-mission -- and I hope they don't make us go to Fort Tarsis and the post office to pick that shit up! I don't know if dropped mats would be included. If mats have rarity, I don't see why not.

The key thing for me about "Elfroot Syndrome" was the press a button to scan your environment and find the items, not to mention going by the loot video last week crafting has been designed to fill out what piece you don't have and isn't a requirement if you aren't looking for specific things.

Most things you can collect* sparkles in Anthem, no scanning buttons. *Except cortex (codex) entries going by the stream they showed inside of Fort Tarsis.
