I am so surprised this took so long to be re-made. So long I seriously considered making a spoof of it. They're not ugly in the slightest, they're realistic. As realism in games increases, boners seem to decrease if the feedback on here can be extrapolated to the general population. And to be perfectly frank, if people are getting brainwashed so that fake gets them hot more than real does, it might explain all the hot heads on gaming forums.

Yes, you just have to pay credit to CD Projekt Red, they really do know how to immersively present a character keeping an inconspicuous low profile in a City filled with mage-hunters ready to pop you on a burning spike. Oh, hang on a minute, I think there might be a problem with that logic. (and I did actually enjoy the game) And once we go beyond a 'look' and start classifying people as 'ugly', I really think the OP is bringing their personal tastes to the discussion, to such an extent that starts to become unreasonable. From what I've seen so far, and I'm sure there are more characters to reveal, we appear to have a believable set of characters populating an embattled fortress on a hostile world. It's not Tinder. I'm relaxed if not pleased that BioWare's approach to character design isn't some flaunty anime. Not opposed to the OP sharing his head (so to speak) about this topic from time to time. While somewhat troubling, I suspect the OP's position is a sincere one and, hey, we're a forum, so 'opinions'.

Ironically, the pin-up girl for all the gamer hot talk, Yennefer, isn't even real in the game's own source lore. She uses magic to look that good. She's fake twice over!

Speaking of using magic to look good -- Triss has got to be using magic to keep that low neckline from committing a wardrobe malfunction.

As this thread is somewhat of a tradition Sigh...I thought with the decision to have no romances in Anthem we might be spared this one. Someone just shoot me now. Also, you people are so lucky I'm not making these games. I'd give you your supermodel and proceed to make her dumb as rocks and incompetent on the battlefield. That’s some GRRM stuff! 😱

With MEA it looked like an intentional design choice while the patch changed some textures and softened the jaw/chin, Sara barely resembled her model when compared to the pre patch mesh. Not to veer far too off but if it was intentional and not technical, what was Bioware's reasoning? Yes, I know many would say it is because of SJW stuff but what is Bioware's take on it? Just curious because that always seemed odd that Male Ryder looked like an exact copy of the modem whereas Female Ryder looked like the female model but with no makeup. Mind you Bio had a decent track record with capturing a model's likeness (Samara, Jack, Sheploo) and think it was a mix of both intentional (Textures) and technical (Lighting) design choices that made Sara look off putting. The below comparisons even shows that they look similar but not exact, ignore Sara's borked eye textures, while with Scott imo it doesn't look exactly like his model but bears a close resemblance. To get a better understanding of what i'm trying to convey, look at Kevin Spacey's render for CoD:MW and compare it's accuracy to that of the Ryder's. Plus, i forget how big of an impact lighting has on figures... About EAware, without explicit statements i won't assume it's a regressive agenda because their members appears to be far leftists, but it seems like a mix of incompetency (First game for the team, and last) and EA not caring. Now on a similar subject, with Aloy's situation from Horizon Zero Dawn, she was uglified on purpose.

Iirc these alt-outfits could be changed to suit the occasion and are not permanent. It's a non issue.

I also don't get the stuff about Alloy ... Hopefully she keeps them dreads clean but she didn't seem ugly to me in the slightest.
Do people really want their heroes to look like models that are constantly returning to hair and makeup every 15 minutes to keep up the illusion?

Do people really want their heroes to look like models that are constantly returning to hair and makeup every 15 minutes to keep up the illusion? Me personally Sara looked too goofy at times. Aloy's face was masculinized. Eyes and lips were made smaller, thicker eyebrows, and less rounded jaw. Imo few people/characters can pull off a mullet and Aloy unfortunately wasn't one of them. After looking at the vast majority of character creation threads and vids across the net i think it's a subconscious thing. You'll see more idealized CC faces like Chris Hemsworth's, Brad Pitt's and John Cena's than John C Reilly's, Danny Trejo or Gary Busy. Modded TES character show offs usually looks like a fantasy Victoria's Secret catalogue too.

First people complain about how BioWare exploits Miranda in Mass Effect 2 or the whole Ashley looks kerfuffle in Mass Effect 3. Now they complain the women in the games don't meet their personal ideals of what attractiveness is, I think BioWare might have finally figured it out and ignore the internet and design the characters the way they want to because there is no pleasing the angry unknown masses. Well personally I adored Miranda, beautiful, strong and back in the days when bioware could do longer hair. 3 pics definitely on plainer end of spectrum. Certainly something i’ll Be interested in seeing once full game pics released as i’d Hope to see return of very beautiful within the mid.

It's a game, one swipe from a 50 ton mecha should kill any human/clone/designer baby regardless of their physique/fitness. Plus look at the protag of Shadow of the Colossus and what he fought against, he's even smaller than Aloy.
