Everyone looks un-sexy compared to the javelins. Deal.With.It Yeah none of the character models look that great. You're just saying that because you want to ride that Javelin.

That was DLC. The Original look for Triss (and yennefer) was a lot more inconspicuous. Probably for Yennefer for Triss not so much: Plus I swear it's apparently canon in the books that Triss doesn't wear revealing low-cut tops cus she has a scar there. CDPR just seemed to have thrown all that out just so they could go "BOOBIES"

My first "in before the lock" and thanks to the cool head of SofaJockey it's ruined! Anyway, as for this "topic": 1. You haven't seen all the women, so the title itself is hyperbole/wrong. 2. Sexy/attractive are matters of opinion. What is sexy to one person is plain or unappealing to another.3. The vast majority of the game will be spent out in the world with other Freelancers facing off against the Dominion, wildlife, etc and thus there will not really be that much interaction with the "plain" NPC's. Sooooo, yeah. Indeed I think I've made some nice looking characters in both DA and ME and I've always thought Miranda and Ashley ewre kind of hot also ther'sa fwe in DAO like Shianni from the Alienage I thought were pretty . I also thought both Bethany and Iasbella were nice to look at.

I thought Sara Ryder was cute and sweet. She was also in insanely good shape. I also don't get the stuff about Alloy ... Hopefully she keeps them dreads clean but she didn't seem ugly to me in the slightest.
Do people really want their heroes to look like models that are constantly returning to hair and makeup every 15 minutes to keep up the illusion? Me personally Sara looked too goofy at times. Aloy's face was masculinized. Eyes and lips were made smaller, thicker eyebrows, and less rounded jaw. Imo few people/characters can pull off a mullet and Aloy unfortunately wasn't one of them. After looking at the vast majority of character creation threads and vids across the net i think it's a subconscious thing. You'll see more idealized CC faces like Chris Hemsworth's, Brad Pitt's and John Cena's than John C Reilly's, Danny Trejo or Gary Busy. Modded TES character show offs usually looks like a fantasy Victoria's Secret catalogue too. The amusing thing to me (someone who actually works with faces a lot) is that the game character's jaw is actually sliiiightly rounder... But that's not really the issue here - the issue is that the photo on the left is clearly from photoshoot session. She has subtle, but still present make up. Nevermind the lighting, which is of such paramount importance it's basically a multi-million industry on its own (also - lenses and lens filters). All of this is specifically designed to make the face look as attractive as possible. At this point, we've made it into a science - long before Photoshop, which the photo itself has also been through. You think that doesn't affect which faces we "subconsciously" pick when we've been fed idealized images since we were kids? Gee, and then people get shocked when they see that actors and models captured on the street aren't really much like their movie or photoshoot selves... I also have to chuckle at 'subconscious thing' when what we're presented for the sake of comparison is a lighter, crisper photo and a darker screenshot with muddier lighting from the game. Textbook confirmation bias. (also - thicc, natural brows are still the latest rage dude, know yo fashion!)

The only thing that can explain Triss not being immediately captured the moment she ventures outside is that she uses some sort of powerful spell that makes her unnoticeable or something...

Not least the BRIGHT ORANGE HAIR. She's the most conspicuous inconspicuous character of all time. I was having palpitations wandering through the town with her, even with that hood. I can't name any prominent female video game characters that are not actually attractive in the scientific sense, as in fairly symmetrical, smooth skin, bright eyes, lustrous hair (no matter how short). There's a matter of taste, as in some people prefer more chiselled jaws, some people like small noses, a lot of people on here can't stand short hair! but there are very few genuinely ugly female characters. Seems like lack of lipstick, tits and flowing locks = ugly to a lot of people, but that really isn't the case. The female Anthem characters are all conventionally attractive so far.

I mean, I don't play Destiny, The Division, or other types of games in the genre, but I'm fairly certain they are also not filled with sexy babes. Am I wrong? I could be wrong, but in all that I've ever seen about those games I've never seen a "sex sells" character. Those aren’t RPGs either. I also didn’t say any one way was wrong. Sure sure, but this isn't an RPG either. Not really. In a recent interview about the flying mechanic in Anthem one of the devs, I think Darrah but I could be wrong, called it a "shooter-looter". That's why I compared it to those games for presence of "eye-candy".

I think the characters are looking mighty fine, though it's early days in terms of character reveal. Hmm... I hope they're rendered better in the final cut, or else I'll think we've reached the limits of what Frostbite can do. By way of comparison, here's how some of the female characters in Odyssey look:

Why guys? Why can't Bioware games have sexy & attractive women anymore? I can't buy this game because I like the actors & actresses (NPCs) to be appealing to look at.
Bioware is neglecting a basic Hollywood rule here and that's sex sells, charismatic characters are nice to look at. *sigh*
Pls. define attractive as it pertains to you cause attractive to me has nothing to do with having the hottest high dollar woman hanging on my arm

Ignoring who made this thread, identical to the ones about DAI and MEA... I will say the one in the middle looks ugly. MEA level of bad. This could be a lighting issue again. A major contributor to MEA's faces looking like shit was the awful indoor lighting. I would be slightly "worried" now if I cared more. The other two women look fine! But neither are in-game screenshot, right? Best female face in Anthem by far was the woman in the javelin in the 2017 trailer. She looked HOT. Back then I thought, yeah, THAT'S more like it. No more goofy rubber faces. Edmonton won't make the same mistake. Well, let's see what the final product looks like. If faces don't look at least as decent as in DAI, I don't know what's going on over there.
Odyssey's Kassandra looks great! Haven't played the game but I really like her look from screenshots.

First people complain about how BioWare exploits Miranda in Mass Effect 2 or the whole Ashley looks kerfuffle in Mass Effect 3. Now they complain the women in the games don't meet their personal ideals of what attractiveness is, I think BioWare might have finally figured it out and ignore the internet and design the characters the way they want to because there is no pleasing the angry unknown masses. Well personally I adored Miranda, beautiful, strong and back in the days when bioware could do longer hair. 3 pics definitely on plainer end of spectrum. Certainly something i’ll Be interested in seeing once full game pics released as i’d Hope to see return of very beautiful within the mid. Nothing wrong with liking the characters, it just amuses me that BioWare is accused of making characters overly sexual and then when they don't people complain about ugliness. Its really a no-win situation so I am hoping they are just doing what they think is best and not doing what others tell them is best.

Can't recommend the game enough for people who enjoy the Bioware type of RPG (Bioware's modern take anyway, not their old-school Baldur's Gate style).

*walks into thread, looks around, shrugs*
Those that complain because of stereotypically "hot" characters are not the same group as those complaining about a lack of attractive characters … so regardless of what a game developer does, there will be complaints. Because it is a BioWare game and fans are passionate about BioWare games … they can be quite vocal … perhaps from a dev perspective, it may seem like BioWare can never get it right. Of course, long hair may really be an issue for Frostbite.
As far as the comparisons of Anthem and Odyssey characters, I hope the issue is more about resolution differences between images (Faye looks pretty decent … noticeable less 'toon-ish than the other two) and perhaps shader differences between an alpha and a final product. Leaving aside notions of attractiveness, I really appreciate the realistic appearance of the Odyssey characters … they are still 'toons, but significantly less so than the Anthem examples.
Finally, getting back to the OP, as far as the argument for "hot" characters or realistic characters … it's a video game, not real life. One group or another will be disappointed in Anthem's characters. Mostly, I don't care, though I prefer more realistic renderings. For the RPG elements, I care more about the story. For the MP elements, I care more about having interesting, complex enemies, missions and locations, along with smooth combat, as well as using weapons and powers that seem to matter. We'll find out soon enough if we are to be thrilled or disappointed in Anthem, regardless of our individual priorities.
*shrugs, shuffles out of the thread*

I'm having a hard time determining if people are being serious about this or not. Plus I'd love to be a fly on the wall of the complainers to see what they're scoring in real life. Let's just say I'm skeptical... I doubt they are fighting off hordes of mercenaries either in real life. It’s a game people want things they can’t have in real life. Given that my notices for dragon age are like 2 new posts in every thread you are following but 44 in DA romances it seems to be an issue for a lot of people. As for this game. There isn’t romance so I have no idea why anyone would care, if eye candy is that important hey good on you I guess and yeah the women shown are kind of plain. I think as they strive for realism it kind of uglifies people. Not because that’s how women look because plenty of hot women exist but the more detailed you are the less room for error.
